Last year I spend a month there and even thought I have family I felt lonely and reconsider my decision, however listening to this discussion I realize that I need to research and find people that I have things in common, like golf, vegan food and more. Thank you

    Wow! Cinnamon, you never seem to disappoint. Very nice interview. It’s so inspiring to hear likeminded individuals who have gone down the same road as yourself. It just makes me smile on the inside to hear about your experiences and your guest. I think it would be such a high to one day meet you. I’ve been so torn Cinnamon because although I’m ready to pull the trigger in regards to moving. The destinations have me perplexed! I love Colombia, I love Thailand, I absolutely love Africa, and I have friends in Vietnam & Phillipines. Now you have me so enthralled with Portugal. I must ask you, as a black man do you think there would be choices for me in regards to dating? (Heterosexual). Dating has been extremely difficult for me here on the west coast. It’s almost like folks are so busy chasing the dollar, they have no time for meaningful socialization. Thank you Cinnamon.

    • @DrivenSpice
      @DrivenSpice  4 года назад

      Thank you so much! Dating and socializing is not a problem. If you’re flexible try all the destination if you can and see which one speaks to your spirit.

      well, I'm Portuguese and it's known for a fact that hook-up culture in PT is not that prevalent, maybe a bit more in Lisbon (especially compared to the US). Portuguese women (I know I'm generalising here) are known to be a bit "closed" (I lack a better word) and like to take things slow so I think you're good on the socializing part ;) as for being a black man, I can't really offer my perspective, sorry; I haven't been in PT for a long time and really don't know the challenges of dating being black here. But if you're interested in dating locals (being white or not), I'd say the biggest challenge would be the language barrier at first.
      Good luck! And definitely don't worry about the money chase here, we aren't crazy about it like some of yall lool

    This video was very informative, with clear detail on both guest experiences. I have been in contemplation for a long time and this shed light on things, I hadn't thought about -- such as insurance, social groups for connecting, Visa clearance and actually starting as a digital nomad where I am. Thanks for putting this together. I am not going to be doing this as a single person, but a mom of 3 (one of which is a working adult), so, I am having those concerns as factors for my situation. This was such an informative and well paced interview. So much to think about while considering moving abroad and learning how to create online work for oneself. I'll likely live in Spain in the short term since I've been there already, but have been wanting to go to Portugal for some time...and as lots of people know, Spain's bureaucracy is over the top ridiculous, so staying there long term seems difficult if you're not independently wealthy or a student. I was thinking about taking my job remotely with me, but also considered how that may interfere with me being able to interact and meet local people of the country.

    How about dealing with the Português language ? Can you please ask your interview subjects how they go about it now that they live in Lisbon, it’s a very important aspect to discuss. Even though many people speak English there, immersing oneself in a different country and its language is so important ( I know because I immigrated to another country and I’m fully bilingual).

    Hi Cinnamon, Forgive me if you've already covered this - I have two questions. I intend to move to Portugal "permanently" but am not retired yet so am looking for a remote job from the U.S., most likely. My questions: 1) Which visa should I apply for; and 2) I live in Florida, do I need to travel to DC or wherever the office that covers my state is, to apply for the visa? Thank you so much!

    • @DrivenSpice
      @DrivenSpice  4 года назад

      Hey there Sharon, please check the "How to Obtain Your Visa..." video. The description box has the link to the company I used. I the website will also tell you where you need to go based on where you live. Far as which visa you should apply for is a bit of a difficult question to answer. If you aren't retired (with provable retirement income) or working remotely it will be a challenge. You need to prove that you can financially support yourself if you move to Portugal.

    It took me 5 years to build my brand and my client base, and I still have up and down months; especially now. But I wouldn't trade the freedom to work for myself for anything. I am able to live anywhere with a great internet connection, so I'm outtee as soon as I get vaccinated. (I sound like a puppy :)!

    I've been searching your channel for an updated video. Just wondering what the climate is there in terms of politics and if Portugal is experiencing anything like the U.S right now as far as racial conflicts. I'm considering an extended visit there in the fall.

      From a Portuguese, we are warm people, if you respect us and our space, you will get our respect and help you in whatever you need, just ask for help to a random Portuguese, and they will go out of their way to get you where you need.
      We are a young democracy (1974), but a old country with more than 900 y of history.
      Lisbon is more diverse, cause in lisbon live most of the ex-colonies returnees and the new immigrants, but you also have lots of turist in Algarve and in Porto.
      We are a Social democracy, with the wright social democrats exchanging places with the left Socialist, every 8 years or so. Right now our government is Socialist (Social-democrat left wing), but our president is from the wright wing social democrats.
      We love positive persons, that say good things about us :D
      I think we are 3th in the world in terms of security, guns need permits, so nobody has one in the big cities (no need), most of our guns are for hunting purposes, so no military weapons are available.
      in terms of health, if I am not mistaken we are 13 in Europe, and for now we dealt quit well with Corona, and are almost fully open (there are still some restrictions, like hearing a masc, restaurants and coffee shops are at 50% capacity)..
      We are not known for being racists, but there is always a bad apple somewhere, usually more in the interior of the country, in the big cities, people are more open minded.
      Our Police is there to help every one in need, no matter what is your problem (you got lost, you dont know a place, etc), they are there to help, they can only pull their guns in very special cases, like being shot at, if they draw a weapon for no reason they can go to jail, for Police intimidation and/or abuse of power.
      Our transport network is quite good, but traveling by car in our wighways is expensive, you will be better by taking a train, as we are a small country, although very diverse.
      Our main religion is catholicism, but we don't discriminate anyone for their beliefs.
      Hope this helps :)

      6 months,3 months as a tourist that can be extended by another 3 months if you like being there!!if a tourist wants to live in Portugal ,and he can find a job and a place to live he can apply for a residential permit,and legalize themselves without the need of leaving the country,during the pandemic,the Portuguese Government legalized every foreigner,who had allready aplied for the residential permit,to allow them to use the Health Services,Hospitals etc...for free, just as if they were Portuguese,yep socialist Governments do this !!
