Are the Ptt switch and the Mic element seperate from the curcuit board ? I would like to move the mic element into a helmet, and possibly move the PTT to handle the bar of a motorcycle. I have done this in the past with basic mics and it worked well. I realize this is a whole new thing.
I have a question that I hope someone can answer; I've ben told that you can run a Texas Star 250 modulator behind this/ parallel/ in line (what ever the terminology is). How true is this? I'm just wondering about it. Can anyone be of help to me???
I have one of these radios but the crummy pots that Cobra seems to use on all of their radios is the issue. They get dirty within a year and you have so many blank spots on your volume and squelch controls. Lots of static when adjusting them. Why can't they use quality pots so this isn't an issue. I would be glad to pay a few dollars more to have decent volume and squelch pots on the radios.
ive had good luck in.the past with cb radioes reaching out there its all in how you get the antenna tuned I had an older cb in one of my cars and got awesome performance.... swr was around .1 was just from my car
So can you listen to FM radio and then receive CB at the same time? Can you listen to music whilst driving around, and be able to talk at the same time?
is it possible to do a lighting color change mod to this unit, changing the lighting color from the yellowish color to blue to match the dash lighting in my van ?
Question, near the end of the video you show where you can increase the volume of the output correct? You also say which spot to "point" to, do you turn the screw clockwise, counterclockwise, or does it not matter to get to that point since it's a never ending turn?
The adjustment he's referring to is the amount of audio being fed into the transmitted carrier. For AM which is what this radio is, 85% modulation is adequate. Trying to fill a carrier with over 85% will cause distortion. At 100% you're going to sound garbled especially when you swallow the mic. With SSB radios, your output power increases to a point with higher modulation levels. With AM you do not. Truckers don't understand this and think shouting into the mic is going to increase their RF output. Best advice, don't be sticking your screwdriver inside this or any other CB radio. They're set at the factory to perform within the FCC emission guidelines. Those hucksters that want to sell you those "tune up" packages are selling you snake oil and a service which has little to do with how well you "get out". The better the antenna, the better the radio will sound and the further you will transmit. Furthermore, the efficiency of an 11 meter radio is dependent on the band conditions. That you have no control over.
I am looking to purchase this unit for my off road vehicle (RZR). Is an Antenna included? If not what is the Antenna connection called? @cbradiomagazine
i have this radio. i wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they planned on using it once or twice a year. for the cost of one of these, you would be better suited getting a refurb galaxy 949 or 959 from sparkys cb shack
When shops tune up radios, you will hear them saying "Aaaaaaaaaaudio", they are looking at their watt meter. Sometimes tech's will whistle into the mic to see what the absolute peak of hte output is. search for some tune up vids.
Thanks for a great video. Bought this radio on the strength of it. Not been disappointed either. No nonsense no frills basic little unit.
@JohnnyGiuffre NO, CB operates from 26.965MHz to 27.405MHz, VHF is roughly 30MHz-300MHz

Is this radio worth buying today or is there a better one out now ? Looking for a compact

Thats why they make spray cleaner for electronics.
How do you turn down the dead key, say around 1 watt or so and does it swing the same?

Cobra does it again.
Can you turn down the dead key? I would like 2 watts

MuzzaHukka yes
Does adjusting the modulation affect the weather channels?
Does modulating increase the output power?
Should be 10 weather channels no? The 00 channel should receive weather info also or is that just to receive emergency weather alerts?
original WX channels in the USA was only 7. Some COBRA's had 10 for Canada.

Is it possible to change the display color on this unit and if so, how? Thanks...

can this radio be peaked and tuned?
Not something you would want to do with this type of radio.
in trinidad we do need a license ... the telecomuications authority told me today they'll work on it for me ....
Sparky's is the last place to buy a CB. Nice video
are cb radios and vhf radios compatible?
John Giuffre no they’re not, cb operates in hf band at around 27mhz while most vhf is 140-170 MHz roughly.
Reminds me of the old Realistic one hander........
...and the SBE Stowaway, which is FAR superior than this horrid contraption.
i have this radio. i wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they planned on using it once or twice a year.

i can't wait to get my licence ...
that would be awesome except there is No PA

VHF is ACTUALLY 30mhz-300mhz. 144-148mhz is the Ham Radio 2 meter band. just google ham radio band propagation
strangly, im only 13, but im fasinated with cb, vhf, sw, ETC...
Cb is in the hf band even though the high frequency, very high frequency, and ultra-high frequency classification is silly.
interesting--
Bearcat hanh
vhf is actually 144 - 148 mhz
i just cb radios
Double U not Dubba U
what is a "Whistle"? is it an amp?

Chet's Jug
Believe me, the tweaking they do does very little to improve a CB radio's performance.
When did I say they were accomplishing anything hahaha
