    • @theexchipmunk
      @theexchipmunk 9 лет назад +4

      If you are doing much woodwork this defeniedly makes it easier because you have to resharpen the chisels pretty often. (especially when you are working with hardwood)

      @madwilliamflint 9 лет назад

      *****
      Yeah I've got to pick up something like that. Hand-sharpening plane irons has actually caused me to largely quit using hand tools. It's just too monotonous.

    • @theexchipmunk

      Yeah and they don't stay plain if you hand sharpen them.

      Well, even with the angle jigs and glass surfaces to make sure the bevels and edges are right, it's just so soul-crushingly dull that I find myself leaving them alone and using powertools.

    Nice! Never would have thought of a brass handle. I did a similar project on a mortising chisel and used oak that, as it turned out, was a bit too green. Shrank up and now I need to do a repeat. Can't imagine that happening with brass!

    Great job Jimmy,i like the chisel. I don't care that it is not up to par according to the other comments, it your peace and your design, i think of it as art work not necessarily a 100% functional tool. I recently bought a tool box at an estate sale that has a chisel just like this in one of the drawers. Smaller in size, but the exact same mushrooming, rust and poor quality. I was thinking I might use for scrap but now I think I'll put it back to rights as a chisel again. Thanks for the great video Jimmy!

    Hey D😎, That's a cool chisel. I used to play with those as a kid lol haha. It look really old. But, you did your magic it made it look new again better than it did when it came off the assembly floor.wow.
    you really come up with some good content on your videos. I really enjoy watching them. You have been a big inspiration to me. I'm starting now to "MAKE" things, after 45 yrs. and sickness.
    So, if you have things that your not using send them my way or your fans on here. They will be going to good home. For me and my son(that works on cars, he's a welder fabricator and paint & body guy.)
    Thanks 😊 for your support.

    Cool stuff as always! I actually did a similar thing with a chisel I got for a couple of bucks at a second hand shop. Wasn't mushroomed quite as badly as that one, but it did have the wood from the old handle lodged in there. I got it out by drilling a long drywall screw into the wood, and grabbing hold of the remaining section with a pair of linesman pliers and tapping them with a hammer. Seemed to do the trick! Although I wish I could say the replacement handle looked as nice as this one

    jimmydiresta I think the chisel looks awesome and is in much, much, much better shape that it was at the beginning of the video. I do have the same concern as some of the other viewers. The handle is made of a soft brass. I know you can make the argument that it is only for looks or that it will only be used in the manor you demonstrated (w/o a hammer), but you and I know that sometimes, the closest tool is the best tool for the job. It might get hammered in the future. Might I suggest drilling a hole thru the center of the brass handle and insert a solid steel (or any durable metal) core cylinder into it. Maybe also include a steel end cap. Thank you for your video, time, and consideration. I love your videos.

    I love the fact that there are people in the comments section with the balls to question how he did this. The man is a 30+ year veteran of the trade with a considerable reputation for excellent work.
    The people who decide to criticize his build have a screwdriver they brought 10 years ago and that one time a screw came loose on a desk they managed to tighten it. They now think they have the authority to question a true craftsman's work.
    The next person who decides to tell Jimmy how to "suck eggs" should proudly upload and link their works and show us all the numerous pieces of work they have had commissioned by big businesses. Jesus people - before you decide to type a comment think to yourself "If I was face to face with the creator of this video would I have the balls to say this" and also "what accolades and expertise have I earned to even begin to question somebody with Jimmy's background". God damn RUclips parasites.
