I'd say Sam is the second most nerfed, he should be basically a mirror to he player's potencial so he should be the second if not the hardest boss in the game (the second hardest in the game as it is in my opinion is monsoon 'cause it get unfair at some points in revengance difficulty)

Monsoon is a somewhat distant fourth place; 1st is obviously Armstrong, he was completely manhandling Raiden like it was a Monday morning chore. 2nd would maybe be Sam, because he's straight up Raiden with extra steps. 3rd, or probably 2nd, would be Sundowner. He's the head of Desperado for a reason, and in the guidebook, he was to have 10,000 health. For reference, EXCELSUS has 6,000 (or was it RAY?) and Monsoon has 1,900. 4th is Monsoon. He awakened the Ripper Mode in Raiden, but the reason he isn't higher stems from his nihilism just making him not motivated to fight outside of testing Raiden, IMO. 5th Mistral. Unlike her colleagues, she actually has hands. I mean that literally, and boy they don't play nice. She is pretty weak though. pain

@@insignia2821You should check the mod out then (: it really makes the bosses feel challenging with the reworked timings. I've tried Sam and Sundowner so far and their near instant attacks are fun and challenging to parry/dodge.

As much as I enjoy changes to Sundowner (or other bosses overall), making them faster is just low effort. Any boss is harder the faster they are. I did read what the mod does but that doesn't change the fact it's doing barely anything to make this better. Giving Sundowner more health is a good start but this insane speed increase is not justified.

recently on my no-upgrade hard run i had to fight Sundowner, but i also had the improved Revengeance bosses mod (not the mod you're using, it's a different one which works on all difficulties, not just Revengeance as apposed to what the mod page says) and it took at least 5+ hours due to how slow his hp went down and how fast his attacks were. i only had 3 nanos and by the end of the fight i was on 12.5% hp with no nanos left. now i'm on Sam and i can't even get him to second phase 😭

The best way to make Sundowner difficult in vanilla MGR is to go after the no damage achievement.
Funny thing is that I never knew he had a second phase since I always just jumped over him and just shanked him to death.
