I was lucky enough to be around for the whole Acid house thing, Newbuild still stands up today, headhunters being the best track in my opinion. Having said all that 808 State where shite after Gerald left.
This is extraordinary. Surely it is the most advanced piece of electronic music ever made. Nothing comes close to its complexity. I want more. But it's just so hard to find electronic dance music this sophisticated. The closest I've found is 'Door of Perception' by Thomas P. Heckmann - anyone know of more :)
I seen these guys 3 days ago and ooft did they bring it, they total spoiled us, what a night and straight after burning a 60 odd foot wickerman while it was foggy! Trippy as hell!
Just goes to show AFX can take a world class acid track and take it out of this world and further... All respect to 808. Acid pioneers. It was 1988 after all, but the AFX mix is something else. If you haven't heard it, highly suggest you give it a listen.
Tehran....music is subjective...I love this...you're talking out your bowls, how did you stumble upon this?On your way...ACCCCCCCCCCCCIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!
I got the newbuild album in 1989 & i got it for another trak (the one that goes " release your body") & i had no idea flow coma was on it. When this came on i instantly phoned my mate Affie Yussef (google him) 0f 'House of 909'& we couldn't believe i inadvertadly just bought one of if not THE best & most definately the most insane acid trak ever made. I was offered £100 by many people for the album (i paid £7) & turned it down every time even though i could've just ordered another.
@TheHandOfGovernment There isn't an Aphex twin "version". It's a REMIX. "Version" implies that there is a "precursor" track common to both. ie. "Your version of the story", "My version of the story". 808 - Flow Coma came first. Richard D James made a Great remix of a seminal acid classic that has a darkness that other acid of the time couldn't touch. Both records deserve respect as I'm sure you would agree.
Those early 808 State EPs had some crazy shit on them. The TB-303 changed more people's lives than any other musical instrument produced since then.
Quite simply the best acid record made EVER!!!!
A timeless classic. 👌
THis is the awesome kind of heavy acid house that makes you want to crawl in the acid hole and shake hands with yourself crawling out.
808 state is one of the best acid house groups
It reminds me of my first ever night at a proper rave in 92. I was only 16, off it & lovin' it. I miss the good old days!!!
Wabow wabow wabow bebowbebowbebow

Newbuild is timeless classic and you are definitely right about 808 losing their way after Gerald Simpson parted company with them. 👌
i wish i was 22, twenty two years ago!!!!!!!! this was the era and i was only a sperm!!!!
early acid at it's very best. hard workin' 303's ,pumping 808 kicks and dancing sweaty people on E
This only could be made by twisted doped brains of English young men.
Classssssic.

This track was fucking huge and monumental in the late 80s. remeber hearing it on John Peel aged 15. Very druggy, very trippy, proper acid.
