2:20 Jacket reads, "I'M SURE TO GO TO HEAVEN BECAUSE I'VE SERVED MY TIME IN HELL" RIP Les Blank, dog bless the Wild Tchoupitoulas; great song and video
The lead singer is George Landry aka "Big Chief Jolly". He's also the Neville brother's uncle and until mentioned, I guess he does look a bit like flavor flav
This is the Neville Brothers pretty early on. They recorded this song, "Meet De Boys On The Battlefront", as 'The Wild Tchoupitoulas'. This particular video, or parts from it, was used in a PBS special on music and culture. David Carradine narrated. This is a great old Mardi Gras song and they have pretty much the definitive version. Great video document here.
Actually, this is from a wonderful documentary called Always For Pleasure, made by Les Blank in 1978.Highly recommend it--he really captures the essence of Mardi Gras and New Orleans culture.
This celebration of authentic New Orleans music features the talent of Ivan and Ian Neville, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, George Porter Jr., Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Lost Bayou Ramblers Duo, 79ers Gang, and Terrence Higgins. Is Touring the Fall of 2018. Highly recommended.
The Nevilles lent their talent to the Tchoupitoulas commission of their renditions of Nawlins classics (& their OWN classics) to vinyl. The Nevilles would be the 1st to tell you they are NOT The Wild Tchoupitoulas and God rest the souls of George "Big Chief Jolly" Landry, Art Neville & Charles Neville.
Their uncle is Big Chief Jolly (George Landry) . That’s the connection I think y’all were looking for. I know this post hella old but just for anyone that comes by this is the connection.
I'm pretty sure 'The Wild Tchoupitoulas were a Mardi Gras Indian gang and the Neville brothers were their own group. They just came together to make music.
I know this is old, but it's near the top of the comments so I want to clarify. The big chief singing is their uncle. They were always part of this culture. Most of New Orleans's unique musical history comes straight out of the neighborhoods and long family musical traditions

I never noticed how similar it sounds to those punky Beastie Boys,, hahahah. I'd imagine those East Coast kids woulda never gone back if they'd come down here & jammed w/ Nola's Indians 🎹🎧🎯🍺🍸
Not almost...absolutely!! Most Indians start sewing their suits for the next year the day after Mardi Gras!! The bead work is incredibly ornate and detailed and takes months and months, not to mention the feathers!
That's what's up and be proud to be the Aboriginal of america..your are a direct descendants of the so called black Indian who the u.s.a labeled negroes, black and colored...I call them the original/Aboriginal people of America. that's who we are and many of us have african descent.
That syncopated NOLA second line music just lifts your soul.
So incredibly true!
Those Neville Brothers are a blessing to us all❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Priceless vocals and a chooglin' beat - what's not to love?!?
One of my all time favorite albums!
One of my favorite decades! 1970s.
I just love them and the unity they put forward as the party goes on!!

is it just me or does that lead singer look like flavor flav
Does anyone know if Wild Tchoupitoulas made their own suits?
Almost certainly. It's a point of pride.
Yes they did
Not almost...absolutely!! Most Indians start sewing their suits for the next year the day after Mardi Gras!! The bead work is incredibly ornate and detailed and takes months and months, not to mention the feathers!
Yes my uncle had on a white suit
SO FUNNNNN
These are real indigenous people. Not those wannabes with white skin and 1A type hair.
Is that big chie Charlie mae?
George "Big Chief Jolly" Landry... uncle to The Neville Brothers.
These are my family members

Beautiful Americans
Too bad the Brothers Neville couldn't maintain the level of coolness they displayed here throughout following decades
Wes Collins I’m six years late but what the hell are you talking about? The Neville Brothers were/still is cool their whole career
Woah bold statement
