As far as I know, in comparison, Wang Yibo didn't have it that bad, so you can't begrudge Xiao Zhan being a bit more popular for some time after that or, especially, that his fans welcomed him back with special attention.
Now both of them are really successful and popular, so we should be glad for that.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened that's why they can't interact or talk anymore on screen because of what happened. Also they need to be more careful of rumors. Specially Xiao Zhan. Because of that he nearly lost his job 😢

Guys, you have to understand that at this point they won't be seated together anymore to prevent further controversies (yes, the scandals are absurd and without any sense, but they still do affect their careers) - not only because it would be the decision of the event management team, but maybe even their own (especially Xiao Zhan's, who tries to keep his distance after the whole AO3 mess).
They were seated together before while The Untamed was relevant for the award show nominations, but now, when they are both working on separate projects and The Untamed is two years gone already, there is almost no chance that they would be seated right next to each other like before. Not if some of you keep the obsessive shipping relevant thing because the reason why they are not able to look at each other without the fear of creating yet another chaos are the shipping fans - it maybe is hard to admit, but it is the reality.

It is also their personal decision, just like their respective companies' decision to protect both of them from more possible scandals and accusations - people in China don't have such an open-minded mindset about homosexuals as the western people do (you have a clear example of what I mean if you look at the way the fans handled and reacted to the AO3 thing).
If the fans' shipping wasn't so hardcore - making analysis of complete stupidities like similar t-shirt, touches that were nothing else than non-intentional or a friendly gesture, etc. - and if the whole AO3 scandal didn't blow up so much, they would be normally interacting with each other as friends, but because of people constantly shipping them together as a couple, all their friendly interactions are seen as a secret lovers' gestures.

Someone wrote slash (bl fanfic) shipping them. Another fan got upset and it blew up all over XZ who knew nothing about it and had no way to control it. He did the right thing, the only thing he could legally do, which was say as little as possible. He got blasted for not responding (ie: apologizing), but that would have made it so much worse. Copyright law would come into it if he acknowledged it directly and that would involve the movie company and generally make things much, much worse. As it is, he's already back working as an actor.
I don't know the specifics of China's copyright law, but I doubt it's that different from the US in this instance.

Y'all, it's ok to ship people. Shipping these two is no different than when you look at two friends and think that they would make a good couple. But, there is a line that shouldn't be crossed, especially when it comes to fanfic. It's ok to acknowledge chemistry between two people and imagine what it would be like if they were dating, but you need to realize that these are real people. Would you write a mature fanfic about your two friends just because you think they would make a great couple or you suspect they may be dating? No, you wouldn't, so why do that to these two? Especially when you consider that they live in a country where lgbtq+ is not accepted. I'm not bashing fanfic, I read a lot of fanfic myself, occasionally about real people, but I NEVER share what I'm reading online or try to bring unnecessary publicity to the fanfic. That is especially not okay if the fanfic is on the dirtier or more taboo side, because these are the things that can make the real life people uncomfortable, and as we saw with China, there are countries where those things are super controversial and can ruin someone's career. Please guys, write fanfic with care because you could not only cause trouble for the real life people, but also trouble for yourself if legal action is taken, and also the website that you wrote the fanfic on, as we saw with AO3 which has banned in China. As for those reading fanfic, what you read is no one's business, and please keep those things private because if a fanfic gets too popular, things like this can happen.
