2 year world number 1 undisputed without losing it 2x World champion 2018 - 2019 2 x Asian champion 2018 - 2019 The only player to win the big 4 of world tour sytem - World tour finals - All england - Indonesia open - China open 10 titles in 2018 (Tie with chong wei) 11 titles in 2019 (A new world record) Undisputed champion. If he keeps this up for a few years and if he can win gold at tokyo olympic. He will be regarded as one of the goats of badminton
His only weakness now is slow start and not-too-powerful smash . Otherwise this guy really got perfect skills and footwork. Momota has a big opportunity to become the greatest of all time ( even surpass Lindan and LCW)
But what makes his Smashes deadly is it’s placement which makes him more deadly than any other player with great power....... But I totally agree with you..... And don’t forget to Like Share And SUBSCRIBE!!!
a slow start is his intentional strategy, not a weakness. He plays accordingly to the opponent, not choosing a particular style or pace from the beginning. This slow start choice gives him time to adapt, to read the opponent, and it also serves as a saving stamina strategy to grind down the opponent in the 3rd game (if any). His not-too-powerful smashes is also an intentional control of hitting strength, so he can focus on placement as well as court control, quick recovery stance. Don't forget that he could hit a 417 kph smash in 13-14th point of a 3rd game (watch 2018 Denmark Open Final with Chou Tien Chen). He totally can hit hard, he's just not abuse it. A very clever player, truly Mr. Perfect
It is very clever of Momota not to inject full power into his smash. Momota's half hard smash enables him to place his shuttle more accurately; his opponent cannot play counterattack easily because there is not much power to feed on; he can keep his balance well after the smash so that he is ready for the next shot, either a follow up or his opponent blocks it back. If you compare Momota's body posture to other players, you will notice that his upper body is super stable when he smashes and he can run forward as soon as his feet touch the ground. As for a slow start, sometimes he has to adapt to the drift (anyway, he plays well in windy conditions) and to read his opponent's game plan. But it is not a big problem, even though he is 10 points or more behind he catches up in the brink of an eye. Momota plays badminton in the way of playing chess (this is also how the control-style Lindan plays), and it separates him from the rest of the MS players. I think the 2019 Momota has surpassed LCW and Chen Long already, and is approaching Lindan. (I mean in terms of ability not achievements)
