I think he did fine conveying the emotions here, though he did that better with ZLY (just a matter of stage/duet chemistry).

Kuno Baka it's cuz Chen' voice pretty much dominates the 4th octave and that's what this song is plus Taeyeon was sick. If they were gone put it into the 5th octave and Taeyeon wasn't sick then Chen's voice would drown out

I feel like Jonghyuns voice overpowered hers as well. I like all the versions that were released, but my personal favorite is the Chinese version. The harmonies, the overall sound, and the way Zhang Yi Lin's voice fits perfectly with Chen's voice made that version stand out to me. However, I've got to give props to Taeyeon, she sounded beautiful.
No offence but I think this would have sound even better with Kyungsoo or Baekhyun, since both Chen and Taeyeon have a rather high, "cold" voice, while both Kyungsoo and Baekhyun have a low warm voice. Still Chen has more singing skills. ^^

Chen and Jonghyun have similar voice tone/color but Jonghyun and Taeyeon have the chemistry. The emotion of the song is perfectly spread by Tae-Jong. Same with Chen who fit the mandarin version of this song with Zhang Liyin.
I think she was ill during this. Also I don't think their voices really harmonize well. They both have amazing voices just thry don't sound the best together. Also Chen was holdig back a bit for Taeyeon since she wasn't well so that might be it.

I think this is one of Chen's best performances vocally. With EXO songs, they often make him strain his voice to reach notes that he hasn't been taught to reach healthily. This song suited him perfectly, and the harmonies were awesome.
+Miranda Feng I know that he has an incredible range, but if you watch songs like Promise live, there are notes that his voice breaks on almost all the time. Also if you look at his neck, all of the muscles are very tense and that's not a healthy way to sing. This is nothing against him as a singer, he's one of the best singers I think I've ever heard! But he gets put under a lot of pressure to hit them even if he's not feeling well and what not.
That's not weird, I always want to hear Chen and Baekhyun sing together, just the two of them. Their performance of I Really Didn't Know is still my top favorite performance ever out of any EXO members, it's just breathtaking every time. I think SM really need to debut them as an official subunit, their chemistry and vocals together are just magic T.T

Dude she's not off tune. It's what you call harmonizing. She's doing second voice, 2 pitch higher than the original tone. Got it? Well she sounded off tune somewhere in 0:41 but it was not that noticeable. It was only a second and she manage to catch up with the tone.
Taeyeon was really sick during the KBS Gayo Deju. She tried her best and it is rlly hard to sing 3 songs when you are really sick and thats not even including the dance for Mr.Mr. Plus it was their first domestic performance without Jessica. If you guys actually lost a close friend of yours then you would understand the pain to stand on a stage that you have been on for 7 years without her.
Honestly, I have always wanted a duet between Chen and Taeyeon. Their voice is amazing! :)) One of the best I have ever heard in the KPOP industry. I think we are all use to Jonghyun's voice and not Chen's. Even if their voice don't sound good together. You still can't deny the fact that they slayed the performance. Also, I think Taeyeon isn't feeling well during the KBS peformance. But still, she tried her best. ^^ so, Sones and EXO-L, let's just enjoy their performance. :) P.s (Those that don't like either one of them, get out please. I personally like combination of Chen & Zhang Li Yin. Their powerful voice is good and when they sing u can feel the story n sadness of the song! Chinese ver is much more better. Zhang Li Yin's singing skills when u listen straightly u know that she is really a senior singer.

Chen and Taeyeon really did great but as you can see Taeyeon seemed tired and sick and although Chen noticed that she is sick, he's not trying to overpower his voice so that he can blend it in with her voice... Is it just me or did Chen just totally overpowered Taeyeon? Srsly though it was a nice performance but Zhang Li yin could've just been the girl singing since it was her from the start anyways. Zhang Liyin suits Chen's voice more since they're both really strong singers. Taeyeon's voice is really fragile compared to Chen's so therefore even though I could tell that Chen was trying to accompany her well, he couldn't because his voice is naturally strong compared to Taeyeon's fragile vocals. It was a nice performance tho. 😊
I really don't get why so many people are saying she should've sung with Jonghyun. I mean, of course it would've been better because they are more used to each other, but honestly their harmonization isn't any better than the harmonization of Chen and her in this video. I watched about 5 performances of Breath of Taeyeon and Jonghyun to be sure and even in their best performance (comeback stage @ MusicBank) they didn't harmonize well. By harmonize well I mean... Well, just look at Chen and LiYin performances of Breath. It's not a matter of technique in their case, I assume, but rather that TaeYeon's voice doesn't match other voices easily. As funny as this may sound, I think she could harmonize really well with Baekhyun because his voice is less thin than both Chen's and Jonghyun's voices. With D.O. as well. We will never see her singing together with Baekyun though, even after (and if) they break up. Such a shame.

I feel like Jonghyuns voice overpowered hers as well. I like all the versions that were released, but my personal favorite is the Chinese version. The harmonies, the overall sound, and the way Zhang Yi Lin's voice fits perfectly with Chen's voice made that version stand out to me. However, I've got to give props to Taeyeon, she sounded beautiful.
No offence but I think this would have sound even better with Kyungsoo or Baekhyun, since both Chen and Taeyeon have a rather high, "cold" voice, while both Kyungsoo and Baekhyun have a low warm voice. Still Chen has more singing skills. ^^

I think this is one of Chen's best performances vocally. With EXO songs, they often make him strain his voice to reach notes that he hasn't been taught to reach healthily. This song suited him perfectly, and the harmonies were awesome.

Also if you look at his neck, all of the muscles are very tense and that's not a healthy way to sing. This is nothing against him as a singer, he's one of the best singers I think I've ever heard! But he gets put under a lot of pressure to hit them even if he's not feeling well and what not.

That's not weird, I always want to hear Chen and Baekhyun sing together, just the two of them. Their performance of I Really Didn't Know is still my top favorite performance ever out of any EXO members, it's just breathtaking every time. I think SM really need to debut them as an official subunit, their chemistry and vocals together are just magic T.T

Dude she's not off tune. It's what you call harmonizing. She's doing second voice, 2 pitch higher than the original tone. Got it? Well she sounded off tune somewhere in 0:41 but it was not that noticeable. It was only a second and she manage to catch up with the tone.

Taeyeon was really sick during the KBS Gayo Deju. She tried her best and it is rlly hard to sing 3 songs when you are really sick and thats not even including the dance for Mr.Mr. Plus it was their first domestic performance without Jessica. If you guys actually lost a close friend of yours then you would understand the pain to stand on a stage that you have been on for 7 years without her.

Honestly, I have always wanted a duet between Chen and Taeyeon. Their voice is amazing! :)) One of the best I have ever heard in the KPOP industry. I think we are all use to Jonghyun's voice and not Chen's. Even if their voice don't sound good together. You still can't deny the fact that they slayed the performance.
Also, I think Taeyeon isn't feeling well during the KBS peformance. But still, she tried her best. ^^ so, Sones and EXO-L, let's just enjoy their performance. :)

I personally like combination of Chen & Zhang Li Yin. Their powerful voice is good and when they sing u can feel the story n sadness of the song! Chinese ver is much more better. Zhang Li Yin's singing skills when u listen straightly u know that she is really a senior singer.
I prefer it to the version taeyeon sang with jonghyun. The beginning is not really good but the rest of song is perfect. Both of them have good voice!!!

Chen and Taeyeon really did great but as you can see Taeyeon seemed tired and sick and although Chen noticed that she is sick, he's not trying to overpower his voice so that he can blend it in with her voice... If Baekhyun would've had the chance to sing "Breathe" with Taeyeon, it would be an amazing collaboration but it would be awkward because they had dated before so I give it a thumbs up for Chen to be able to perform with her!! Is it just me or did Chen just totally overpowered Taeyeon? Srsly though it was a nice performance but Zhang Li yin could've just been the girl singing since it was her from the start anyways. Zhang Liyin suits Chen's voice more since they're both really strong singers. Taeyeon's voice is really fragile compared to Chen's so therefore even though I could tell that Chen was trying to accompany her well, he couldn't because his voice is naturally strong compared to Taeyeon's fragile vocals. It was a nice performance tho. 😊
I really don't get why so many people are saying she should've sung with Jonghyun. I mean, of course it would've been better because they are more used to each other, but honestly their harmonization isn't any better than the harmonization of Chen and her in this video. I watched about 5 performances of Breath of Taeyeon and Jonghyun to be sure and even in their best performance (comeback stage @ MusicBank) they didn't harmonize well. By harmonize well I mean... Well, just look at Chen and LiYin performances of Breath. It's not a matter of technique in their case, I assume, but rather that TaeYeon's voice doesn't match other voices easily. As funny as this may sound, I think she could harmonize really well with Baekhyun because his voice is less thin than both Chen's and Jonghyun's voices. With D.O. as well. We will never see her singing together with Baekyun though, even after (and if) they break up. Such a shame.
