  • My very own Mercedes O305, number 3000! Lived at Waverley in Sydney, and upon retirement was bought by Snow Bus Mount Hotham for running routes up there.
Was recently bought by someone accidentally on pickles, and then on-sold to me.
Recorded on the 20th of January, 2024 - with a friend George Neocleous driving, under instruction from Bodie Thorpe.
The drag race at the start (recorded on the 19th of January) was this Merc up against MAN NL202 256. By far one of the fastest NL’s, but poor NL, she can’t stand up against the Merc from a standstill!

Interesting match-up. The O 305 has a significant low-end power advantage compared to the NL 202 owing to the much larger engine. The engine on the NL 202 would have to reach its boost threshold before producing equivalent power. Furthermore, the Sydney O 305s have what they Europeans call a "standard" diff ratio (5.937:1) which would further contribute to faster acceleration.

Once the NL reaches its max boost it catches up for sure. The merc seems to struggle a bit on longer steeper hills due to the lack of gearing, but on a long climb the NL is always at max boost due to continuous revving keeping the turbo spooled up.
