- How will Toby get on at the Villars Lead World Cup 2023 - in arguably the strongest field this year with Schubert, Ondra and Megos all competing.
There was no doubt tiredness was a big factor at the Innsbruck World Cups with a punishing schedule - but also there was crucial experience to be gained at the highest level of climbing competition.
How will Toby get on after a short mid-season break?

Toby, your attitude is so inspiring. You are confident but very humble, you always gracefully accept your result in comps and calmly analyze what you learned and hope to implement next time. This positive growth mindset is so helpful not just for sports but for anything in life. I'm just someone who climbs for fun but these videos always motivate me to train harder for climbing and for my other goals. Excited to root for you in Chamonix!

You have quickly shot up to my favorite climber to watch this season, you have the most amazing amount of “try hard” where you are always giving it your all. I love to see that passion, and your vlog series has been a delight to watch. Can’t wait to see the Chamonix video… congrats on getting your lead gold medal 🥇 it was an emotional performance and your joy at the end was contagious!
Btw one thing I’ve wondered with World Cup athletes: do you tend to watch the IFSC streams after the competition to see how other athletes did certain moves or worked out sequences? That’s always been something I’ve been curious about, and I’d assume you can familiarize yourself with the rest of the field.
Best of luck to you the rest of this season, I think you have a good shot at winning the overall lead title!

Great vid! Thanks for taking the time to share your personal thoughts and insights! One suggestion, describe your climbs a bit slower/ in sync with the video. From what I can tell (i'm not good a route reading) it seems like your descriptions of your climbs are leading ahead of the videos by varying amounts and I sometimes found it tough to match your description to what I was seeing.
Yes I realised this was a bit of a problem. It should hopefully be fixed in the next couple vids. Just a slight mistake with the lining up of the two clips. Thanks for the feedback :)

Glad to hear you’re enjoying them. The sport is getting a lot bigger now, it’s really great to see so many young people psyched on climbing. It really is a unique sport with so many different aspects that go into it. Hopefully it continues to grow like it is 🦾
You’re nailing it mate - people aren’t surprised when you’re on the podium/ they are surprised when you aren’t! You were definitely missed at cliffhanger in Sheffield this year - but keep representing GBR buddy we are routing for you!
