    Excellent film. I have follow these instructions many times on 2016 Ford Explorer. The oil drain is pointed towards the rear of the Explorer and not directly down so adjust your oil pan accordingly.

    I will be doing this in the morning. On our 2015 Sport, we let the dealer do all of the oil changes and I suspect they used cheap oil as we had the timing chain and cam phasers replaced twice in the first 60,000 miles. Now we have a 2019 and I plan to use Penzoils Pure Plus natural gas synthetic and see if we have better luck.

    The duct is for cooling the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) for the 4WD system. The PTU transfers power from the transmission to the rear axle. On the police version (Interceptor Utility) the PTU is liquid cooled. Thanks for the video.

    I believe the manual calls for 5W20, someone mention 5W30. I have used full-syn oil for 17 years now. I change the filter every 5000 and change the oil every 10,000. Easy to keep an eye on just by looking at the odometer. This method took me 220,000 miles on an '00 Expl and my '14 Expl has 30,000....works great. AND I use Walmarts branded oil, Trust me, they don't refine it in Bentonville, Ark,

      I still have the explorer. 152,000 miles on it. Still runs good. No issues with the water pump. Couple recalls on rear suspension. Positive battery cable replaced twice due to issues with corrosion. Left rear wheel bearing replaced. It had a 120,000 mile warranty so Ford replaced I think the front timing cover or resealed it due to a common oil leak issue. Although I never noticed it leaking. All the service has been completed at the local Ford dealer. Other than that its been oil changes between 5k to 6k miles (when 50% oil life shows on the gauge), tires and brakes. Its been a good vehicle. I’m going to see if I can get 250k miles on it.

    My wife just bought a 2016 Explorer and tonight I did the first oil change on it. We bought it from my sister with 19,000 on the clock. She was a maintenance nut BUT she always took it to local chain auto stores for the oil changes.
    After watching your video, the first thing I noticed was that there was no air scoop/box to divert air toward the rear of the vehicle. I certainly cut down on the labor time for me as I changed the oil and filter in 10 minutes.
    I did not see any speed nuts or the like in the frame holes where you showed them after dropping the box. I do have square frame holes in the locations you showed.
    My sister bought the vehicle in 2015 and I am wondering if the air box came out later in the model year to address a heat issue. My gut tells me the local chain store mechanic tossed it in the recycle bin because he didn't fee like messing with it.
    Do you know if yours was bought in 2016 ? Any input would be appreciated

    • @smithfamilyvegetables7666

      I received my vehicle in April of 2016. Twice the Ford dealer left the air duct off after an oil change. I checked now every time I get my oil changed. The first time I brought it back to the Ford dealer they said they had to check the fit because they had two of them laying back there. If your vehicle has the little square hole cut in the lower valance I would guess its been left off. I know I ordered it with the tow package. So Im not sure if its unique with the that package.

    • @DalHarpJr
      @DalHarpJr 7 лет назад

      Yes, I had terrible acid corrosion on my positive battery terminal. Cleaned it off, and then a few months later my truck wouldn't start. The corrosion was back with a vengeance. Took off the cable to thoroughly clean it and the post, just to find out that my battery had a crack by the post, under the cable, which I didn't initially see prior to taking off the cable. Took it to Ford, and luckily I was still under the factory warranty by 1000 miles. They put in a new battery and ordered a new wiring harness which consisted of a new positive battery cable, as mine was so corroded. All is well now. Good luck with yours...

    • @smithfamilyvegetables7666
      @smithfamilyvegetables7666 7 лет назад

      I agree. I didn't know what oil was used from the factory so I changed it to synthetic at 3k. Its a fleet vehicle so at 10k I took it to the Ford dealer for its first service. I asked the service writer what kind of oil they use and he said blended. I guess that meant synthetic blend? I did notice my oil change sticker said 17,500 and not 20k for my next service. I'm taking it in this week for the 17,500 change. I will ask again what kind of oil and see if I get a different answer.

    • @DalHarpJr
      @DalHarpJr 7 лет назад +1

      Read the owners manual... Mostly all the answers one needs to find out is right there in the manual, but most people don't take the time to read it. You'd be surprised how many people that work at a Ford dealership or any dealership for that matter, don't have a clue as to what they're selling or servicing. I have a 2016 Explorer exactly like yours, except mine is Magnetic Metallic. The oil change interval for this truck is 10,000 miles. Reset and then follow the oil wear indicators prompts to change it when another 10,000 miles transpires. The truck will tell you when it needs to be changed. I've been using full synthetic oil since my first oil change. And shops will write down a lower mileage on the oil change sticker because they want to take your money more frequently than they would be able to if you read your manual and followed FoMoCo. I had a 2002 Ford Explorer E.B. with a 5,000 mile oil change interval. Yet the Ford dealership would write down 3,000 miles till my next oil change, on the sticker. Don't be anyone's fool!
