i think a get what hi want to tell bout "greatest". it`s memories, it`s feeling you get from looking at the city, places you remember. i left for 9 years ago my almaty and miss the place. now i`m 20. my chilhood was there, and i miss peoples warm hearts, my family. and that what it do the greatest, at least for some of us. it`s not buildings, it`s memorys , it`s peace of us.

Silkroad is consider the connection between Europe and Asia... this very silkroad is in Almaty..... a connecting point where people are there for business, hence culture grew up, and the rest is history .

Well, this is an emotional concern, may be this is a native city of someone, and native or birth city everybody like anyway. So try to understand this, Anyhow Almaty is beautiful as well. And we don't have to compare because this is may be homeland of someone and we have to respect that.

ridiculous:) yeah you are right about TURKIC but your are wrong about name of the city, it is actually other way round, Almaty (Алматы) is a more "original" than Alma ata, Russian's renamed Vernii to Alma Ata, but it used to be just Almatu so Almaty is more closer to the original! Good luck!

Well i am from almaty left at age 12 now in New York for 10 years and i miss almaty. What makes almaty beautifull are mountains.
