FCC had a policy for years where everyone was expected to ride as individuals (i.e., without team tactics) and just ride hard. It used to be one of the messages you'd get from the commissaires before every race. My guess is that's primarily why Harry got in a stink.
I know this might be considered laughable in the context of this video but FCC is also one of the clubs in Melbourne with the strictest culture of safe racing. There are rarely more than 1-2 incidents every year or two because the races are that well run and marshalled.

Harry rijdt hier in vlaanderen wel redelijk goede wedstrijden. Misschien heeft hij het hier geleerd. Er zijn er hier veel gasten die zich hier zo gedragen.
Fantastic footage, analysis, and breakdown. It's hard to imagine people getting so angry over standard cycling tactics. This looks like a fit bunch of guys. On the other hand, people using flashing lights in a race makes it look like no one has any business being on a bike close to others.
Teams in club races are terrible. They ruin the race, piss people off even if they don't express it (physically or otherwise), and generally lend a negative atmosphere to the whole thing. Saying "why don't you organise some mates" or "just organise the bunch" is... naive at best. It's obviously effective. Not only are the team mates typically the top of the grade in terms of power, but they often know how to race as a team, as is evidenced here. Constantly blocking / disrupting the chasing group is especially effective - and aggravating. One rider may have expressed his displeasure here, but IME there were more that felt the same way but don't say anything.
It's rubbish and it's technically considered cheating. Maybe the kid wasnt too happy about his entries fees going to your team. No excuse for the kids behaviour though.
there wasn't really any 'blocking' as you could have just ridden around me/us. I'd say we sat on the front for about half a lap until the guys started attacking. Hope this answers your question.
You can justify it by saying things like "get some mates" or "organise the bunch", but only a novice would say that and actually expect it could happen. Personally, I hate it with a passion - teams in general for club races like this, but even more so, teams who block the chase.
had a similar issue last year - a guy we would LAP would try to jump back in the lead group (a lot - but not always). finally at the end of the year i said something and he FLIPPED. he had been yelled at for two years about it but i was the last straw. we bumped elbows during the race and after i thought he was going to swing. i'm glad he didn't but it would have been fun if he did. long story short, if you're lapped, stay the hell out of the way. you can tag on the back as long as you want but your race is over so STAY OUT OF THE MIX IF YOU'RE LAPPED
I seem to recall some rules in track racing where your race is over if you get lapped, and you must get off the track and stop. Perhaps that could apply to the lapped rider in your situation.
haha when I saw the Creston IC SL handle bars it gave me a big smile: "Dude is riding either a Scott Addict RC or the Foil RC" Sure enough it's the Addict RC, same bike as mine! Great taste in bike mate! Cheers~
It's just a rule of the club/council because the course is technically considered an open road as they occasionally have to let a truck through the course
What is the etiquette for riding in the chase group when you don’t plan on working? It seemed like you were usually close to the front and possibly disturbing the rotation.
The rule is “don’t be a douche.” Don’t actively sabotage a small group of chasers if you’re getting a free ride to the break. If the chase group is huge and disorganized, then you can get away with more blocking.
@@kidsafe Completely agree - I think continuously riding in 2nd wheel to disrupt a smooth roll of turns in a chase group is an incredibly effective tactic to help a teammate up the road, but it is also incredibly frustrating for everyone around you and probably borders on bad sportsmanship. Having said that - there is still no need for shoving, maybe a bit of a verbal shot across the bows but at the end of the day you've just got to encourage the rest of the chasing group to ignore the problem riders and roll turns as if they weren there, whether they're 2nd wheel or 7th.

I'm also quite new but I have gradually learnt and picked up on things over the past few years. The cam rider had some teammates in the breakaway group ahead and understandably didn't want to help chase them down. There are unwritten rules/etiquette about taking a turn at the front (notice the elbow flick of the front rider to indicate the next turn) to pull the rest of the peloton along, which is particularly difficult if you need to chase a breakaway group due to the organisation required, and relatively hard and quick turns. So it can get quite frustrating when there are riders who refuse to take a turn at the front and, in a way, take advantage of the draft without putting in their fair share of work. Edit: obviously, it was wrong for the aggressive rider to deliberately come into contact with the cam rider (once is already one too many, so doing it multiple times is beyond ridiculous, and a ban is well-deserved). The reckless cycling and deliberate contact is extremely silly and puts everyone at risk.

That was quite entertaining!
This "Harry" guy...I think he's got a crush on you. Kept looking back at you haha When he gives you the bird just for saying "Look ahead" how pathetic~
I just saw the part where he elbowed you. WTF? I'll keep it civil but that guy should be kicked out of joining the crit races after that. No excuse for doing that. If he has beef with you he can wait till the race is over.
Did you guys talk after the race?
we all make mistakes! We fist bumped after the race. All is well :)
