Just returned from 5 days in Venice it's over run by thousands of tourists following umbrellas, Venice is overrated there is very little you can see because of the crowds ( i know of which I was one) even without the crowds I would say there is not much to see even architecturally and every cafe is a tourist rip off ! e.g. 200 Euros for a frozen farmed sea Bass done in the oven, If you are extremely lucky you will get a cafe with clean toilets but probably not. Venice is a tourist trap a self promoting Disney world full of hype on the edge of an industrial city a lot of the cafe and shop owners are not from Venice but have paid handsomely to get the ticket in the lottery to open a shop or cafe. It's not even that old when it comes to a European city. Still it's one of the places you have to visit during your lifetime even if only to boast to your friends you where on the Rialto bridge which incidentally is pretty new when it comes to a bridge in Europe ,Florence has a more beautiful bridge 300 years older!

@@jamescardoness3037 hi! Yes, it can definitely feel overrated if there's a ton of people. There's been a lot of news stories about over tourism this summer. I think we lucked out by going in summer 2023 during ferragosto when there were fewer tourists. I still think Venice has a very unique water / canal esthetic and history amongst the world destinations, and it's worth a visit for anyone who enjoys traveling. Thanks for your thoughts!
