A little trip out today to show a friend the alum tunnel at Boulby alum quarry. There is already a video on this place but this footage is at a higher quality.
Went through this as a kid, no torch, just feeling our way through. Last time I went through, ended up at the opening in the cliff, with a straight drop below.
Yeah the one i found is in the shape of an "S"...I returned and found another 2. There was a short one with a door hinge on the entrance. I was told it was used to start a fire under all the alum shale :)
I love a century in stone....craig actually follows my channel who made that movie. He is a great guy, such an inspiration of mine him and Simon Chapman
@MineExplorerUK I'm certainty not as brave as you guys but the mining infrastructure under the cleveland hills and north Yorkshire moors is mind blowing.
Great video this one and its quite dry down there too.. There's an opening with dressed stone around it on the shale on Sandsend cliffs, just like this one. It was covered over by someone, however, i was down there a few months ago and its visible again. I never went down it, but i remember some friends saying they had, they told us there were old picks and tools down there, even miners boots.. History all around us..
@@MineExplorerUK , if you follow the old rail line from Sandsend carpark right to the end before the shale where the line takes a sharp turn left in the direction of the tunnel its directly opposite at the top eastward corner of the shale. You will see the dressed stones around that area and if you look closely enough you will see the opening. As i said, someone buried the opening some years ago, probably to stop the curious, but its now visible again. Let us know how you get on..
What was the tunnel for? There was obviously something supported on blocks on the left side of the tunnel. Did it lead to workings, carry ventilation, power, etc? I’d love to know. Great camera work and lighting btw, shame you didn't do a commentary. 👍

Can finally catch up. Lovely day for the drone flying. Peter, Penetrate me!!!!!!
The history of the Northeast coast is mind blowing. The story of iron ore in and around the area is historical.

Hello mate. Glad you liked the video, I can't find much information on that tunnel. Very strange it is
