We are honored to feature Ludwig artist Jon Theodore to kick-off the showcase with us - Slamming through a live recording of "Last Letter" by One Day as a Lion. Jon has spent a big part of his playing career behind Vistalite drums, performing on some of the biggest stages and celebrated records of the last 2 decades.
The celebration of Vistalite 50th brings back collector favorites as well as alluring one-of-a-kind varieties. Red and green finish options make a return for the first time since 2009 as standard colors for the 2022 production season. Along with the expanded color options, we have five new limited production pattern options that playoff familiar rarities with a new twist!

It hasn’t been the same since he left. I have a soft spot for deloused and Frances the mute
I love the Theodore albums, and think Bedlam is a masterpiece with some really cool song endings. I prefer their B-Sides album to their last two records, though.
Hell yeah! TMV is why Jon is one of my top 5 ever. Such a badass!

I often wonder how different bedlam would sound if he was playing on it. I love TP, but JT’s bombastic kick patterns are otherworldly.

His grooves on the Lion album are infectious. Technical in away u can’t deny but also very listenable and not completely over your head .
Huge fan of this dude. Feel extremely lucky to be floored by him when seeing him a couple times live with Golden in early 2000's . Deloused is a high water mark by any musician's standard in my opinion. Hoping he stays w QOTSA and is allowed to run free. Awesome
It was the mid-70s and I was about 13 years old. I was able to buy a brand new five-piece vista light set with the money I made from gigging. Back then I was too young and too naive to realize just how fortunate I was. How this video brings back memories. Thanks.

This is one of my favorite Jon Theodore beats! If he did “Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt” or “Viscera Eyes” I would’ve lost my mind…
There is just SOMETHING about Jon. Something that makes him so unique and interesting to listen to.
I could listen to a whole album of just him. When The Mars Volta had him, it was truly a special mix. Now that he does his own thing that is not really my bag, I would still listen just because of the way he plays the drums. He is truly an amazing musician .
I think exactly the same. In my opinion, when Jon plays the percussion, for me he is the drums, not the drummer, but the drums. a little fucked up what I wrote, but I can not describe it otherwise. He is my inspiration from the moment I saw the Golden concert. I love him 🤧🤧🤧😃

Sickkkk! 50 years, how 'bout that! One of my favorite drummers of all time too, at least from the modern era. Been a big fan since Deloused by The Mars Volta came out. 🤘 Always wanted a set of Vistalites, but not necessarily vintage ones. My pops had a blue set, but they had issues. That's so cool you guys reissued the spirals and tricolored shells too! Hopefully the solid colors are seamless. Anyway, great to see these brand new! 😎

I freaking love this video. John Theodore is such a great drummer and he really inspires me. On top of that I’m ready to buy a Ludwig Vistalite every time I watch the video - untill I see the prices. But maybe one day.
I was a year old when vistalites came out. First time I saw vistalites was on Zeppelin's Song Remains The Same. Then it was solid color acrylic with black and white stripes with Alex Van Halen. There's no more to be said. Sound speaks for itself.

JT is the main reason never put another rack Tom on my kit again once I reduced it to 1. It truly showed me how to use the kit with your talent instead of spending hours tuning vs practicing and becoming a better drummer in the end. Top 3 drummers of all time in my book.

Jon Theodore is a ghost note master, my friend. Love how he makes it seem easy and then you try to play what he’s playing and you immediately notice something is missing.

Love Vistalite drums..always wanted a set and picked up a 1976 vintage 4-piece kit a few years ago in clear blue my favorite Vistalite color. (no matching snare..just the bass, two rack toms and a floor tom). Hope they've solved the shell cracking issues with the 'reissues' I found a shell crack in the 9 x 13" tom it still plays well. This guy is a heavy hitter I've read that the reissue series are much improved as to durability.

Right on! It would be kool to see a fogged acrylic, or a shower door style acrylic kit like what Fibes had. Or a sparkle over whatever colour, still being see through. Though I’ve always wanted to put a wrap over an acrylic kit.

I really like these.
Been thinking about acrylics for awhile and that video was awesome. Think a little less strobe would have been better to see all the different shells which would be the hardest part in choosing because the all looked incredibly sexy.

Absolute Beast, Hell yeah. I have a 6.5x14 Hammered Brass Supraphonic, it'll put a hole in your chest.. saving up for some of these acrylics, they sound incredible live.

If you haven’t ever listened to “one day as a lion” you are really missing out. Zack (RAGM) side project.
Is he playing a 26 inch Kick drum in the recording? Do the Pro Beat Vistalite drums sound the same with the 24 inch Kick?
The drum audio was recorded on a 22" kick vistalite. The Pro Beat 24" in not only larger in size but sound as well. Much rounder and resonant.
My favorite Jon Theodore groove, but why are there not any close mics on the kit?
Kit was pre-recorded for a cleaner look and color alternations. Jon is that much of a machine that he got it exactly right for every take after for the visual.

Why did that One Day as a Lion group never make anymore music? I mean I wish Jon would have stuck with TMV and made more material with them, but they still ended up making some cool shit with Pridgen after Jon left. I just wanted at least something more than an EP! Does Jon play with any groups now that make good music?
He's been in Queens of the Stone Age for a while now. He's a perfect choice for QOTSA, but a little underutilized.

Niiiiiiiccccce!!!! Question.......Are the Ludwig acrylics their own making, or are they crafted and made by RCI acrylic drums? Also, were they able to eliminate the seam like Pearl did with their acrylics?
Ludwig acrylic made in the USA. RCI has nothing to do with it. All vistalites have re-inforced seams.

Thank you for your input. I was asking because I heard that RCI was also making acrylic shells for other drum companies. I had recently checked out Pearls Crystal Beats acrylic drums. Was told they were a poured seamless solid mold. Curious how these new Ludwig Vistalite acrylics solved the problem with the seam breaking loose, as they were sometimes known for having that problem in the 70's.
