HF Antennas and VHF Truck Radios (

Stephen, KD6KXT, has two question; are vertical antennas more prone to picking up noise and second what is the advantage of having two separate receivers as opposed to a more simple two band and one receiver.

Isn't one of the big reasons that a Loop on Ground works despite not being very sensitive is because it attenuates vertically-polarized noise more than the horizontal component of the signal?

I will always use a true dual receiver dualband mobile. I always keep either 2m simplex or my local repeater on one VFO, and I’m always scanning on the other VFO. Since I can’t financially justify buying a proper scanner to have as well, I use my mobile radio as a scanner essentially in addition to being a ham radio.

I will probably never buy a new radio again, 1 because I cant afford it, and 2 because my Kenwood TS140S, that I purchased new a long long time ago works just as good as when it came out of the box.

Regarding crossband repeating. I used it extensively when I was out in my jeep and had to be away from the jeep for some reason that way I could stay on the main channel and use a handyheld to talk to the radio in the repeater was essential in a couple of kind of rescue situations. I also used it around the house because I was situated in such that reaching the repeater was difficult with a handheld. About dual watch I found it was fairly simple to keep two repeaters on listen and just turn the one I was not interested in down. Fortunately, I have radio that I have I could tell her to glance which side was talking.

Thanks for this informative video. Is the double lobe effect of a dipole higher than one wavelength what produces false glide slopes on an ILS antenna system I wonder?
