    Geoff Garrod's back, and shooting in the same field where he was taking out prizewinner Muhammad just a few weeks ago. But now he's back on his own, setting up the bale hide right in the centre of the field to get in among the pigeons. With his Browning Maxus stoked up with Eley cartridges, he's all set - now if only the rain would stop for a minute...

    I already commented this once, but the shot-cam is absolutely super! I'm not that good of a shot myself, and by seeing how much lead Geoff is giving, it helps me judging the lead to give pigeons and other game.

      I agree Cedric, nothing like seeing the actual lead that connected with the target!

      It's always surprising to see the amount of lead needed! Thanks for your feedback! :)

    another good video Geoff, but why do the producer's think that we need to hear bloody silly music, you don't take a band with you ,so why are we subjected to it, it's supposed to be a natural environment, and the music adds nothing...

    Vlad the Impaler would also hoist the bodies of the dead before claiming more victims. Jokes aside, this is an essential practice for the sake of the yield.

    What sort of range do you get from those Eley Pigeon Selects? I ask because I was wondering too, how far distant is that road and traffic? No, I am not a shot gun shooter, this is why I'd like to know.
    That dog of Geoff's is superb. What a wonderful dog !

    • @tchadwic82
      @tchadwic82 8 лет назад

      Killing pigeons max 70 yards really. By the time they are where that road is at they will have little or no energy left and be massively dispersed.

    • @StrictlyShootingUK
      @StrictlyShootingUK 8 лет назад

      The experts say that lead shot will travel a maximum of around 250-275 metres if you fire at the optimum angle of around 30 degrees, so clay grounds tend to allow 300m to be on the safe side. The camera shrinks the perspective somewhat, but that road was well over 300m from the hide, so even pedestrians on the road would have been perfectly safe.

      @regsparkes6507 8 лет назад +1

      OK now there you go. This is what I was wanting to learn. Thanks James, for your reply.

    • @shooter7577
      @shooter7577 8 лет назад

      we shoot land where we have roads right in front, low shots will not reach the road the shot will drop before it gets there and high shots will actually clear the road but as a rule if we see a car van lorry etc in our sights as we shoot at birds we don't pull the trigger its all about common sense in those situations

    • @Elektroid
      @Elektroid 8 лет назад

      the lead would drop by the time it reached the road and even if it didnt it would be traveling so slow it wouldnt even leave a dent

    Don't understand why steel wouldn't be ok for competition especially Olympic disciplines. I shoot steel with fiber cup on sporting clays and have no problem with it. Once it's a rule then its fair for everyone.

    If you was shooting in Australia that close to the road in the back ground you would be locked up! We have no shooting from house and road and you must be 3km away!

    • @tchadwic82
      @tchadwic82 8 лет назад +2

      If we had to be 3km away from a road I doubt we would get much shot given how little space we have here.

    • @wheels6566
      @wheels6566 8 лет назад

      Mate its true 3km minimum, and NO suppressers on anything.

    • @tchadwic82

    • @wheels6566
      @wheels6566 8 лет назад

      We live in a nanny state! To have a suppressor you would be a killer like in the movies ! a hired gun! Fucking anti gun shit head in Australia thinking they are safer now, but criminals don't hand in there gun in the last buy back!

    • @Elektroid

      the shot used in a pigeon load for a shotgun is very light and would drop before it reached the road but even if it did hit a car at that range it would have very little power left and wouldnt even leave a dent. There is about 200 little lead balls in one of those shells
