Great video. What's helped me run my 40 marathons, including 3 Boston, is "the miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." Good job and congrats.
Oh and Matt I went from a 4.15 to a 3.30 finisher in Manchester last weekend in my second marathon. Bit bad for a 52 year old! Secrets in the training, and the experience of knowing what's coming in a marathon. Set the cruise control and bring it home...😉💪🏾
What? Wow! What a mammoth improvement from a good time to an amazing time! Well done to you! Impressive! You're right about the experience changing things; once you've done a marathon it's easier to wrap your head around the distance and just go for it! Nicely done!
Hooray for Matt and all the Boston runners. What an absolute affirmation of the human spirit to overcome adversities of the past and the present. To participate is to win. You are all champions!
I had a very similar day..finished 4 seconds faster than you, but also felt like I was ready to be sub 3:10....the cold and headwind and rains definitely slowed me some..still very happy with the day...congrats
excellent race, video streaming, commentary and all, dude!! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Bye now from Athens (Greece). On Sunday I run in a 10K race. Take care!!! Awesome!!
Congratulations Matt!! Remember many like me are still just Boston wannabes...but you qualified and already ran it. So proud of you and I hope day I too could line up at Boston.
🤣 yeah, that part was the worst part of the day! I didn't know that the discomfort I was feeling at mile 24 would be eclipsed by the slow walk from the finish line! 🥶
I looked for you but there were so many people! Great race Matt! Congratulations!!!! PS I was kinda cold for the first 4-5 miles. Us southern people not used to that coolness this time of year (I wore some arm sleeves) but for running, PERFECT!!! I thought the hills were easy. I stopped and kissed a girl in Wellesley and drank beer in BC. Totally epic!!!!!!
A kiss and a beer? You ran the race right!🤣 I thought the chill at the start of the race was ideal! Perfect for running! It was when the rain really started that I began to feel cold! Oh well! It would have been far worse if it had been warm! Great racing, Jim! You really left something in the tank for your sprint to the finish!💪🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ My Boston block was horrible with Covid and a stress reaction. I ran race off effort and tried to even split the race! Mission accomplished
You are amazing. Thankyou for the clips of races you do. I just love them. I get emotional at the end of a race. Love your positivity. I can’t imagine being that cold. As it not that cold where I live. Thanks again and we’ll done.
You're too kind! Thank you, Jody! I also live in a warm place, so the cold hits harder for us, right?! That's what i'm telling myself! I'm sure the locals didn't think it was too cold out! 🤣

Awesome race Matt!! Congrats!! Brilliant job! It was definitely cold, raw and wet...I was running a 5 miler in Lexington MA just a few miles away while you were running Boston. 🥶 in spite of the weather glad we both had a great experience 😊
Thanks so much, Bren! Great job with your 5 miler! Yes, the conditions may not have been ideal, but they were far better than they were on the Friday before the race (80ºs and sunny!).
Thanks, Chad! Marathons aren't always emotional like this one was. It kind of came out of no where and surprised me at the end! I've run a lot of marathons and have only felt like this after a few of them!

Great video you did along the way, thank you for doing this. As someone who tried to qualify but never did and now has a bad knee and doesn't run anymore after 40 years of racing. I'm glad you took me on the sites and sounds of Boston.
Cheers, Bruce! You've really put in the time with 40 years of racing!💪🏽 I didn't realize how loud the race was when I was there. Watching the video made me realize how loud and crazy the crowds were! Thanks for watching, mate!
"This is what marathons are all about." Your emotions got me at the end, Matt. Thanks for getting this all on film so I could relive such an amazing day once again. Congrats to you!!
Congrats Matt and all you Boston runners! It was fun watching your video as usual. 🤞 In a few years I'll run Boston too.. Just need to figure how to get in with qualifying :)
Congratulations Matt on a great race. Digging deep and fighting through the adversity. The passion you felt and emotion after the race was so genuine and authentic. Thanks for taking us on the journey with you and inspiring others. Hope it didn’t take you too long to warm up afterwards !!
Thanks for the inspiring video and the emotional honesty at the end. Been there. This has inspired my training at age 71 for my 8th NYC Marathon coming up. Fantastic race, Matt! You said going in that you weren't feeling exceptional but you were well within your expected time range and you did what you had to do to get it in tough conditions. Very inspirational!
Thank you Matt for sharing your Boston experience! I ran my first Boston yesterday and will relish the weekend for many years to come. As I'm sure you will too. The beauty of sharing suffering with all the other runners and the kindness of the volunteers and spectators was priceless!

You killed it, great race. I was at the finish as a volunteer and somehow missed you... Most of the feedback I heard from the runner was about the struggle with the wind and the rain. Would you still choose the Saucony Elite over the Vaporfly 3?
Ahh! Sorry I missed you, and thanks for volunteering! I can't say the wind was an issue for me! I didn't actually notice it was overly windy! The rain/cold was what I struggled with! Yes, I would choose the Elite over the VF3 again. The Elite just felt so good at the end of the race!
Looks brutal. No taxi on the way back? Or hide in a coffee shop. The result is due to the Tracksmith hat. I agree with wearing a hat. I always do it in the rain. I always thought that a winter race is better but now I understand cold and DRY.. Cold and wet is like my life in Holland which luckily I ditched for warmer part of the world. 🎉
Yeah, cold and wet is not ideal (to say the least)! Last year was cold, dry, and sunny, which could account for me being 6 minutes faster last year! The hat was really handy when it started to rain!
Such a great capture of the Boston Marathon! Was my third Boston. The marathon after the marathon was absolutely the cold walk to connect with family - wild.

LEGEND Matt! Congratulations 🎉 Can soo relate to the emotions and reactions at the finish line as I finished my debut Full marathon on Sunday myself too over the weekend and nothing beats the finish line feeling . Was emotional . Looking forward to more such amazing content ❤
@It's Matt B thanks Matt! It all went as planned thankfully - 3:49:xx on debut FM although was going for sub 3:45 . I ran with my Mizuno wave rebellion pro kakizome :) Such an enjoyable ride and feel. Special shoes indeed
Matt absolutely loved these Boston vlogs thanks for the time to put them together, and they're so clear and easy to watch👍🏾 brilliant run, the emotion comes through. Seems like the rain and conditions made it even more worthwhile for participants this year and emotions seemed high across the weekend💙 take care peace ✌🏾
Thank you for watching the vlogs last weekend! They were a lot of fun to make, which I suppose is obvious because it was a very fun weekend! 😆 Yes, the rain and the temperature made the race even more memorable and even though I was complaining about it at the time, I wouldn't change a thing!
Matt, its GREAT to see you're still doing your thing and providing exceptional and inspirational content 👍 I'll have to catch up with your videos. I'm back after taking a break from running and hoping to make 2024 my year of hitting my target time of 3:29 for the Manitoba Full. Hope you're well my friend and all the best / Happy New Year.
Nice run. Good time. Kinda sucks it was cold towards the end. So I read Evans Chebet won the race with 2:05:54. That's crazy. You wore the white hat....I would have worn the darker one.
Thanks, Jay! Yeah, I'm not upset with my time and Chebet's finish is just a phenomenal display of athleticism! Regarding the hat choice, the people decided and they decided white was the way to go! Perhaps it wouldn't have rained if I had worn the black hat....I guess we'll never know!
Man you are such a legend! You really make me look forward to all the wonderful moments that running will get to make me live through. Congratulations on another marathon!!! from a 24 year old runner in Brazil!
Boston route is perfect. It is how marathon should be… starting from one end and finishing at the other end. Just like from Marathon to Athens to deliver the message back in the days…. You don’t go in circle or backtrack your way, it is the straight line to the destination to send the message 42k away. I just love it. ❤
I just wish they took some cues from the Boston Half Marathon and went through more of the neighborhoods in the city. The traffic would be atrocious but it's a holiday they'll be okay lol
Actually, original Marathon to Athens course was shorter than 42k, around 40km. It got to be 42.195km in 1908 to accommodate British Royal family and was standardized in 1921. But anyway, I get you. One way is close to original but presents some logistical problems for runners and organizers (like bussing people in Boston, some busses got lost last year and arrived late, creating a lot of stress)
Fantastic , it’s the first run of Boston I have followed you in very well done ( I managed 3:29 in Manchester uk on Sunday) hope you enjoyed a good Bath when you got back !
I feel, or should I say felt, your pain! Superb vlog. the weather and course turns into a war with yourself - i loved it for that. I’d never do a training session on purpose in those conditions and that’s what makes races hard. when you’re out there all of you is out - my second Boston, aged 49, 2:55, and I won’t forget that.
Well done, Matt: 3:15;09. You maintained a fairly even pace throughout. You slowed down a bit at the Newton Hills, especially over Heartbreak Hill; but that's to be expected. My favorite section is the Scream Tunnel (of course) at Wellesley. Watching you in that weather flashed me back to my first in 2015...same conditions. But not as bad as 2018. Oof
I'm not unhappy with how I paced the race! I think (in hindsight of course) I could have gone out a little quicker, but still, I'm not disappointed! When I compare my speed trajectory with other runners it is very similar, so it's not like some runners don't slow down in the Newton hills!
GREAT VIDEO and CONGRATULATIONS on your marathon! I am sure you got more than a few of us emotional seeing you emotional! You gave it all you had! Nothing better than that!!
Thanks, Elliot! It really was a great day out there and the misery of the cold rain just made it even more memorable! I agree; it doesn't get better than when we give it everything! 👊🏽
Cheers, Jordan, and thank you for your kind words! The race videos are always so much fun to film, and I think that excitement comes across to the audience!
Perhaps in my wildest dreams I could hope for a 2:15, but this could be a typo, so I think you meant 3:15? My A goal was 3:10 and my B-goal was 3:15, so overall i'm very happy with the result!
great to finally meet you in person!
Likewise! 👊🏽 Great racing out there!
Great video. What's helped me run my 40 marathons, including 3 Boston, is "the miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." Good job and congrats.

Congrats on the Boston marathon!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😁
Thanks for watching the whole vid, Jorge! Did someone say breakfast? It's time to eat!
Congrats Matt! I can’t wait to run Boston myself! I’m working hard this year so I can eventually qualify to run it!
Thanks, Jeffrey! Good luck with your training this year! You'll get it!💪🏽
LEGEND Matt! Congratulations 🎉 Can soo relate to the emotions and reactions at the finish line as I finished my debut Full marathon on Sunday myself too over the weekend and nothing beats the finish line feeling . Was emotional . Looking forward to more such amazing content ❤
Cheers, Vikram, and massive congratulations on your first marathon! Was it everything you expected? Was it harder than you expected?
Well done, mate!
@It's Matt B thanks Matt! It all went as planned thankfully - 3:49:xx on debut FM although was going for sub 3:45 . I ran with my Mizuno wave rebellion pro kakizome :) Such an enjoyable ride and feel. Special shoes indeed
@@Vikram-es2vw Brilliant time and impressive you were so close to your goal! 💪🏽
Excellent, l run the Boston Marathon too.
Huge congratulations to you, Claris! 4:36 is a great time! Well done! How are your legs feeling today?
@@its_Matt_B_ iam feeling much better today , I did the Power Yogas stretch.
@@ClarisNdoroRealEstate Oh nice! Sounds like the perfect post-marathon activity!
Yes, the rain and the temperature made the race even more memorable and even though I was complaining about it at the time, I wouldn't change a thing!
Welcome back!!! Now you've said it, 2024 will definitely be your year! I ran my first BQ at the Manitoba Marathon! You're getting that 3:29!!! 💪🏽
Probably the best 2023 BM on the course video. Thanks Matt.
That's high praise! Thanks, Joseph! I think we'll see a lot more coming out in the next couple days!
Nice run.
Congratulations Matt, brilliant effort!
Thanks so much, Steve!👊🏽
Very good bravo 👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much!🙌🏽
Man you are such a legend! You really make me look forward to all the wonderful moments that running will get to make me live through. Congratulations on another marathon!!! from a 24 year old runner in Brazil!
Cheers, Lorenzo! You have such a bright future with so many exciting and fun events! Keep crushing it, my man!💪🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ thanks matt 💪💪
Boston route is perfect. It is how marathon should be… starting from one end and finishing at the other end. Just like from Marathon to Athens to deliver the message back in the days…. You don’t go in circle or backtrack your way, it is the straight line to the destination to send the message 42k away. I just love it. ❤
I'm with you on this! The point to point is where it's at and makes it a more exciting experience because you're actually running somewhere!
I just wish they took some cues from the Boston Half Marathon and went through more of the neighborhoods in the city. The traffic would be atrocious but it's a holiday they'll be okay lol
@@isiah675 It would definitely be more interesting, but then there's the whole tradition thing. I don't see them changing the course at this point! 🤣
@@its_Matt_B_ Hahaha yeah the BAA does a great job we can leave the big race alone for now 😅
Actually, original Marathon to Athens course was shorter than 42k, around 40km. It got to be 42.195km in 1908 to accommodate British Royal family and was standardized in 1921. But anyway, I get you. One way is close to original but presents some logistical problems for runners and organizers (like bussing people in Boston, some busses got lost last year and arrived late, creating a lot of stress)
Awesome vids Matt congrats on the race! You the man!
Thanks a lot, Tony!🙌🏽
Fantastic , it’s the first run of Boston I have followed you in very well done ( I managed 3:29 in Manchester uk on Sunday) hope you enjoyed a good Bath when you got back !
Cheers, John, and huge congratulations to you on a brilliant race at Manchester! 💪🏽
Yep, that's it exactly! We leave it all out there! Congrats on a phenomenal time! 💪🏽
Awesome! I was a volunteer at the first hydration station (mile 2.2) and saw you pass but a little too late to shout. Great job!
Oh wow! All those people going past and your saw me! 🥳
You're so good to volunteer! Thank you! It wasn't an easy day for the volunteers!
@@its_Matt_B_ it was the combo of the singlet and lime green Endorphin Elites :-)
@@teresataildashf 🤣 Yeah, that and my height. I guess I did stand out a bit!
@@its_Matt_B_ I'm amazed you can carry a selfie stick.
@@MyFatAdaptedLife A selfie stick would have been easier, but Boston doesn't allow them! I was just holding the GoPro!
@@its_Matt_B_ Which explains why I've never seen them.👍
Super going Matt!! You look sooo cold at the end ❄️
Thanks so much, Tim! Yeah, I was pretty miserable after the race. But it's fun to look back on now i'm warm and comfortable!
Congratulations ! Great Job !!!!
Thanks, Manuel! 👊🏽
Congratulations Matt. Beautiful race. Probably my favorite video that you've ever made. You earned your finishers medal, enjoy it!
Cheers, Jordan, and thank you for your kind words! The race videos are always so much fun to film, and I think that excitement comes across to the audience!
Congrats! And another great video!
Cheers, Velu! 🙌🏽
Cool Vlog man, as a Boston native this was a fun video to watch 🤙🏼
Cheers for watching, Jared, and for letting tens of thousands of runners invade your city every year!👊🏽
Where you hoping for 2:15?
Perhaps in my wildest dreams I could hope for a 2:15, but this could be a typo, so I think you meant 3:15? My A goal was 3:10 and my B-goal was 3:15, so overall i'm very happy with the result!
Congratulations! 🍾🎈🎉 🏅
Thanks so much, Tina! It was a good day! 💫
Awesome. Very well done!
Cheers, mate! 👊🏽
Huge Congrats on the race!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So inspiring....
Thanks so much, Amanda! It was SO much fun!
