I know Gukesh is weak in faster formats since he is mostly a calculative monster rather than a intuitive player lazy at calculation - and for calculating deep lines you need time. But I believe people are still underestimating his classical level. In the past two years he has been competing at the top and tying first in several super tournaments in the classical sections - Tata Steel, CCT Romania, Chennai Grandmasters all with a strong field with super gms. Plus the Olympiad Board 1 Gold in 2022. And he didn't even bring his A game in the recent CCT classical event - opting to keep his best prep under wraps. The only bad performance of his has been at Tata Steel 2023 (his first ever 2700+ rated event) and only average performance at Prague Masters 2024 where he finished mid table 5th (just before the Candidates, so he was most likely hiding prep). And let me remind you he is just 18 yrs of age right now. If any other prodigy had these results, eg If Pragg or Nodirbek had Gukesh's results, they would have already been anointed the next world Champion by players and fans alike. But Gukesh always gets back handed compliments and grudging respect. Whether he'll reach GOAT tier of Vishy, Magnus, Kasparov etc. is yet to be seen and it's too early to say, but beware. He will keep proving people wrong and I'll be happy to see people getting surprised again.
Lazy here means lazy at calculation. Not lazy in general. They'd simply prefer to play by the pattern they've seen gazillions of times instead of going in really deep into calculation since they've developed a certain depth in understanding of the game. Literally the words of Magnus himself who called himself a lazy calculator in the very same podcast. Now ofc don't misunderstand the two different instances of "depth" I used here. 😂
He’s not a genius. He’s gifted & he he put the time in. Look into his background. Now he is youngest world champion 🏆
So, finally, Gokesh won the title of World Chess Champions 🏆
Real chess lover will understand that whatever magnus is saying is truely correct
😂”But beware” ahh
Intuitive players aren't "lazy".
very based of you to call intuitive players lazy
Calling someone who plays more intuitively, "lazy", shows that you don't know anything about chess whatsoever.
Now he won 🎉🎉🎉
