    i love doing buttercream icing transfers and i just happened upon your video. Thank you so much. I don't work with fondant much because i feel it limits me to basic shapes and designs. But you just opened the door to a whole new level of cake decorating for me. I am entering my first cake design contest and we have to decorate a "Mad Hatter" top hat. I had ideas but couldn't figure out how to get my ideas on the "hat". Oh but now I do. Thank you so much!!!

    OMG THANK YOU! I'm so excited to do this! I have to do a small sillouet of a dragon and bc it's too small to cut out of fondant I was nervous on how in the world I would be able to do it. This is PERFECT! I have used graphite before for name plaques, but didn't think to do it for an actual image. Thanks again! :)

    • @SugarArtbyZoeByres
      @SugarArtbyZoeByres  4 года назад

      yes, you can use other pencils and edible markers - most won't give you a decent transfer though so non toxic pencils are the best to get a clear line. Or you can just free hand paint it!

  • @elizabethbimbra6562
    @elizabethbimbra6562 4 года назад

    Question here, I do not cover the whole cake in fondant. I just do the top, so I do all of this before I put the cake together. Should I put the transfer on while fondant is slightly tacky or should I wait for it to harden. The issue I’m having is it goes on better when fondant is tacky, but the decoration seems to wrinkle as it hardens. How do I keep that fondant smooth??

    • @SugarArtbyZoeByres
      @SugarArtbyZoeByres  4 года назад +1

      Hi Elizabeth. I always think it is better to transfer onto dry fondant so you aren't adding dints and damage to the finish.
      You can do it a couple of different ways. Either put the fondant on and let it dry before you paint it or do it on a piece of fondant and then add it to your cake after you have painted it. I did a tutorial recently for CakeFlix like this.. ( check it out around the 30 min mark facebook.com/CakeflixOfficial/videos/585932322112557/ )
      Hope that helps!?

    Id love to get honest input from other professional cake makers about if they disclose the use of graphite or other such materials that are not intended to be eaten. I'd be mad if it was my cake I paid for and I wasn't told beforehand. I wouldn't feel right not telling a client there was graphite on the fondant to allow them to decide whether to eat it or pull it off. I'm pretty sure most clients would have a problem with graphite being used and with serving it to guests

    • @christiejackson7191
      @christiejackson7191 6 лет назад

      Rana X. It would have to be the same for disco dusts and some petal dusts. They are labeled non toxic as well.

    • @Shoot.Rana.X
      @Shoot.Rana.X 6 лет назад +1

      Christie Jackson I only use petal dusts, edible glitter etc on sugar flowers or other things that are removed before the cake is served. I would never use them on the surface of the fondant over the butter cream unless the customer insisted and only after I disclosed to them that the decoration were non toxic but not created to be edible.
      My question was towards other cake makers that do use these things on parts of the cake they know will likely be consumed. Do they disclose it to the customer so the customer can make an educated decision about if they want to eat it and serve it to their guests?

    • @mrslcakes
      @mrslcakes 6 лет назад +3

      Wow. Sit down sometime and stop and think about all the things that either briefly or for extended periods of time, that touch your cakes. Do you know how cardboard cake rounds are made? And you're gonna worry about a graphite (which is a mineral) pencil?

    • @Shoot.Rana.X
      @Shoot.Rana.X 6 лет назад +2

      mrslcakes I’m not worried - i was asking for input from other cake bakers if they disclose to clients when they put non edible things (luster dust, graphite pencil? whatever) on parts of their cakes that will likely be consumed.
