Thanks for the. I'm one of those people that hates tests... especially invasive ones unless I'm really ill. I teach potential medical students Anatomy & Physiology so I know better... but that's just how I am. I even have white coat syndrome. So this year my PA convinced me to at least do the Cologuard.... and yep.... it came back positive last week. So now I have a consult scheduled with a gastroenterologist. It's not until early June so I guess they aren't that concerned about it? I don't have any gastro symptoms and all my other blood tests and such are fine. I even did my mammography this year (only my 2nd) and it was fine. So hopefully this will be fine as well.
Hi there, was everything okay? I recently did the cologuard test and it came back positive. Great, now for the colonoscopy.
@robertlewis3116 I did have one small polyp, which was luckily benign... Yay! That prep stuff they make us drink before the colonoscopy is the most vile stuff. It's torture. Someone really needs to discover an alternative! My doctor said before the procedure that since I wasn't having any symptoms and I live pretty healthy that he was expecting they wouldn't find anything significant and he was right. Good luck on yours.
@@TheBioExplorer I agree about the Prep fluid (4 liters of it). It was okay (lemon-lime flavor) for the first 2 liters, but then tasted bitter and bland for the last 2 liters. I also spent a lot of time glued to the toilet bowl. My appointment was for 7AM but they didn't get started until 10AM, so I didn't get any sleep until I was sedated.
My friend had his bowel perforated during a colonoscopy, and I have had a camera broken off in my bladder. So, even though my cologuard came back positive, I'm VERY reluctant to get a colonoscopy ! There has GOT to be another option!?
As an RN, I support this message. I will be 45 this yr and am asymptomatic.
You are only cleared for ten yrs if there were no polyps.
My husband has had three, his first at 32 (nurse wife) and had bloody stools. He had a lot of precancerous polyps removed. He’s 50 now and had his third colonoscopy a year ago. He’s good to go!! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!
And it isn’t covered by insurance if you have symptoms. You will have to pay deductible, etc.,
only preventative is no cost. Motivation to do it!!
What about a CT Colonoscopy after a positive Cologuard if you still want to avoid Colonoscopy. If no, now throw in the complication that the patient has a tortuous colon.
what does "cleared for 10 yrs mean"? I thought that was when you can get the next one, meaning when insurance would allow it again.
It means, if your colonoscopy looks good, you dont need 1 for the next 10 years.
@@raknoknak Are you sure that is what it means?
@@vs-yy5cx I have done so much research I can write a book :)

My doctor said the same so, yes, you’re good for another 10;years.
Just know that your Dr. maybe giving your phone number & email address to Cologuard & they will be calling, texting, emailing you all kinds of crap (pun intended). If I knew they were getting all this info about me, I would have done the colonoscopy.
I did a Cologuard and didn't receive any texting, mailing, emailing or anything other than my results.
Yep, went in to see my doc in the morning for my A1c numbers and then we talked about the cologuard and she ordered it and that afternoon I got a text from cologuard on my cell. I was like dang that was fast. Now just waiting for the kit to arrive. We went this way cause doctor said I could get the colonoscopy but there's a long wait in our area, 6 to 8 months out if not longer.
@@JeffSpehar-ov1cn I didn't receive anything either, except a letter to remind me that I should be tested again, and an email to say the kit would be shipped and gave me a tracking number. They sent the results to my PCP as well. I've done this several times over the years with good results, except the last time which found some mutated DNA and recommended I should have a full colonoscopy. A few typical polyps and 2 or 3 adenomas were all removed and found to be benign, so I'm free of any risk of anything becoming cancerous. Further, there was no cost to me for the Cologuard test or the colonoscopy.
@@slugo9156-8 .months ? You live in Canada?
@@slugo915how were the results
If you have hemorrhoids, can you get a false positive?
yes
Facts. You will definitely get a abnormal reading. I tested positive and after a colonoscopy, I found out about internal hemorrhoids and some polyps but no cancer was found.
Thank you, I was wondering the same
I couldn’t do it i am usually constipated didn’t feel comfortable using it
It's easy...non-invasive..BUT....if you get a Positive, even a false Positive...you will need a Colonoscopy...! Plus the added worry that you might have cancer....! So skip the Cologuard and go straight for a Colonoscopy......
Which is not bad at all, except for the prep....from somebody who's been there, done that! 😉👍
