    Dude you freaking rocked that game! I can’t believe how many detailed animations and unique enemies were in your game. Seriously my gamer boy heart leaped when I saw the boss go into the background and shoot lanterns for the first time. Also, your devlog is fantastic.
    It’s so funny that we almost did the office setting as well and I was a bit tired of them by the end of the jams. I think of all the really epic boss fights, your game probably had the most detailed and fleshed out one. Fantastic work!

      Thank you so much for the kind words, I appreciate it! I was hoping people would enjoy the boss fight, I'm glad it worked! :D
      Also, I totally feel you on the office theme - haha! I remember scrolling through the submissions after the time ended and just breathing a sigh of relief that I pivoted to this game when I saw all the office themed games, lol!

    Dude, I hate the 48 hour jams too, I feel bad for those they crunch for the whole weekend just to get their game out. I wish 1 week / 10 days would become the norm, much more manageable. Also, interesting to hear about your previous industry experience creating boss fights, very cool!

    • @InboundShovel
      @InboundShovel 3 года назад +3

      100% agreed, 1 week jams really feel like the sweet spot! :D

    • @RockyMullet123
      @RockyMullet123 3 года назад +4

      Totally agree, I feel you have to make so much sacrifice to your scope and polish in a 48h gamejam, that you either have to make an unfinished game or go for an hardcore unhealthy crunch and still might not be that great. 10 days jams are perfect imo, cause it allows you to make the core of your game on the first weekend, finish it during the week days and polish and wrap it during the last weekend. I was really happy to finally participate in a relatively big jam that wasnt a 48h one for once, I also really hope that this format picks up in popularity and become the norm.

    When you sent it to me to playtest I had wondered about how short the level before the boss was, but it makes so much sense to highlight the boss in a game jam about bosses. I think it turned out great, and as usual the video was a lot of fun!

    • @InboundShovel

    Love the stuff, going through the catalog. But PLZ do a final gameplay part of the video. I understand the want for people to play what you’ve worked so hard on, but after hearing there are 207(!!!!!!!!!) SE in the game - holy crap. I have commercial releases that have like 40 tops, including music. Love the channel, love your passion, love your delivery, hate your game jam curse (though it makes me chuckle through the empathy) and love that you worked on a Halo game. No matter where you are in your life or what you’re doing, I wish you the best and continued success! I’ll get back to the video now ;)

    Great video ! And congrats on your 13th position ! You made a great game !
    1:58 funny enough, I had the same though process. That everybody would avoid making a Boss fight for the sake of being original and since Vimlark mentioned it could also be a Boss you work for, I assumed everyone would avoid everyone's first idea and go for everyone's second idea: some Boss in an office and like you said, it was totally the case. So like you, I went for some reverse psychology and went for the Boss fight and try to be original with the theme instead hahaha.

    Game looks great! Crisp pixel art and gameplay looks very good in general, not just for a game jam.
    Agree about players not finishing game jam games. For example, for LD49 I made a short and easy game with a twist at the end, but more than 50 % just didn't get to that part, but that part was the most important part that shows what was happening the whole game.
    So yeah, it's very hard to balance for gamejam's...

    • @InboundShovel
      @InboundShovel 3 года назад +1

      Thank you!
      And yeah, haha, I did the exact same thing with a twist ending for a game jam game I made called "Lamland Adventure"! I was shocked at how many comments I got on the game saying that they didn't understand it, because I totally overexplained once you got to the twist, but it really helped me learn more about how to balance for a jam and how to account for the low player retention rate!

      @@painleroux9486 Thanks so much!
      I used Godot because, in general, I just really like the Godot node system, and because in general I find that scripting languages like Lua and GDScript (godot's scripting language) are much faster for making content than something like C++, which is much better for engine side stuff and optimization!

    I must be stupid. My first thought when you said the theme and requirement was a game where you go through these ridiculous levels and at the end of the level you walk out onto the edge of a cliff. Here you can see an intense boss fight of which you can't be part of.

    • @InboundShovel
      @InboundShovel 3 года назад +2

      I mean, a game where you see an epic boss fight happening that you can't actually interact with directly is a brilliant subversion of the idea of being "on the edge" of a "boss".
      I can actually totally see that working LOL
