No doubt it's a huge improvement over its predecessor, but aesthetically, I still prefer the facelifted V222. I'm not sold on the styling of this new generation S-class.
I've owned a 97, an 03,an 08, 20212 and a 2016. This is the least S class looking S class yet. I just want to find a mint W140 with 20,000km in a garage somewhere. That car felt the most refined of all of them.
My third s class. The exterior design looks much better in person. The ride and drive are both improved. The dual screen layout is a step backwards for this series both aesthetically and in functionality . The center touch touch screen takes your eye off of the road to operate while you search for a menu or try something as simple changing the radio channel. It also takes away from the comfort experience because the ergonomics of the touchscreen are just far enough away from the user to make the driver move his driving position to operate it. The center console takes away the armrest for your forearm as well as reduces the cup holders size.The touch screen stays covered in fingerprints and the fingerprint id is an extra step that gets annoying on a daily basis. The touch screen is also hard to see at times with the suns reflections. The new air vents sit high and away from the driver and cause a distracting reflection on the windshield. The ride and drive are outstanding , but the electronics make it very frustrating to operate.
OSV provides an S Class level of reviews! I studied the OSV review on the X7 before I went into the dealer to purchase - and I new more about the vehicle than the Sales Rep, and "Genius". Amazing information is now available at home for all to see. How I wish this info was available years ago when I just walked into a dealer with almost zero information to buy my first car in 1983.

Smh just call me old fashion! No analog clock,No wood plastic everywhere ! The last great Benz that barely made it is the W220-W221 and they started making vehicles like the others! Take me back to the W141! This is disappointing!
In South Africa all those sophisticated features destined for Maybach is available on the normal S Class range. Like rear-axle steering and the 4D Burmester sound system. Only the S500 and S400d is available in South Africa.

The new ones, the styling to me is nondescript and the interiors major on tech to impress, which I guess is fair enough but the more austere interior styling of the earlier gens appealed more. The point is, the previous generations focused on quality and presence in order to appeal. These latest ones, it’s glitz and glamour, tech and fancy lights. But it looks dull.
I'm fortunate to somehow own a 95 S500. It needs some love cosmetically and restore electronic malfunction but mechanically the motor is solid although reverse sort of works. Quite a car and once I restore properly to original I'm sure 2nd to none...thanks Jay

Another superb, encyclopedic review. I can't say I'm that impressed by the interior screens. The dash layout on other models is far better in my view. They seem to have gone back to that period between the command and mbux where they stuck screens on, but a beautiful car nevertheless.
MERCEDES should build the next S-class to be a full EV and with a more advanced Hyperscreen. I think the W223 is great, but the W224 is what you really want.
it's an endless money pit though, you have any idea how much money it cost to repair these things when they break? its like thousands of dollars each time there's even the slightest thing wrong with it. you basically have to be rich to buy one and repair and maintain one
For this car not to be EV feels like a step backwards. BMW is doing the right thing making the 7 series into an EV. The Mercedes’ buyer wants an S CLASS EV. Not the EQS. And before you ask; yes I have an S class and YES I drove the EQS. The EQS was too small.
Did he actually say "classy dashboard"? I beg to differ - this is the biggest problem of the current s-class: The drivers seat is surrounded by a disjointed mess, and no matter how many times I look at it, it just doesn´t grow on me. If they had at least made the middle display flush with the entire dashboard to introduce some calm.....
painting seems crackled instead of being smooth and rich. I thank many features are engineered to make a wow-effect but without durability, as no one want to buy a Mercedes to drive it for 1 million km anymore

In my experience it is very uncommon for a tire to fail. Or the roads in Germany are just better? I threw out every tire repair kit and spare tire which came with any car. If the car should ever break down I'll call for help.

Great review, but wish you'd use the non-diesel version for test drives as the diesel version is not available in USA.
He did the review in the UK as you can see. Most mercedes in the UK are diesel.
