Its just one of those little tricks that people will learn with time. The EMP also seems to destroy radio beacons and the like as well but i need further testing to prove this. I'm planning a follow up video soon so stay tuned for some commander tips and tricks.

A note on making easy points as commander: If your squad leaders aren't paying attention and won't follow orders just focus your UAVs over the largest clusters of friendly troops. You will pick up some quick points assuming your team isn't getting wiped out.
Best answer I can give you is try talking to the squads over voice chat. Let them know you're there. If the squad leader has any brains he can try getting his guys to follow orders. It's kind of like herding cats...
Well, now I know how to be a better squad leader. I've played a match with a commander and he/she was indicating where my squad should go, but I wasn't aware of the value of squad points or I was just being ignorant and was coming up with my own strategies to capture and defend locations. Now I feel bad since I was that "one guy" and here I am considering playing as commander. Now I will start cooperating with commanders so we can get those squad points. Also my apologies to any commanders that I did that to in the past, won't happen again. Thanks for the help Southpaw.

I figured all of this on my own. The only thing he didn't talk about is that you can zoom all the way in and you'll switch to live view, where you can see vehicles and infantry on high roofs. You can increase your cruise missile accuracy to 75% just from that feature.
Thank you for pointing this out. I should have mentioned this in the video. The vehicle and infantry scanners will blip the units on the radar much like a T-UGS or MAV. You will lose sight of the enemy's presence for a moment in between.

Even I didn't know that the EMP UAV could block the enemy cruise missile (simply because I make sure my team holds the flag with the gunship/missile asset)! Again, great job with the video. I usually play on my tablet and I find I do really well, many of my friends ask me to command the same when they get a whole platoon together, I never played on the PC version of commander so this deffiantly helps :D
I remember I was in a clan war on battlefield4 and our commander didn't want to do it anymore as everyone counts on you and then we had a meeting and I said I will do it and one of my friends said I am a decent commander I'm not the best but I'm decent and we desperately needed a commander so they assigned me to the job I was excited to be commander for our clan but I just remembered everyone's counting on me so I tried my best as a commander we eventually won but then the other guy said he will be commander because he saw I could do it and it was my first match we won that one then I had to hop back into alpha squad which I was originally assigned to as a engineer that day was the one of the best days on battlefield I ever had and I always wanted to do it again but I decided to leave because we went to competitive that we had to pay money just to talk to others so I think that flan is failing but me and my other friend is trying to look for there old clan and rebuild it Anyway in a clan war don't be scared to be commander because it is fairly easy to do And if you want add me on xbox one N1TR0xG4M1NG
Not really a huge tip but ya better to help all of your squads not focus on one or a few as not only does it get you more points and make it less likely for them to kick you from commander role but they also get them their own upgrades like fast deploy and drop supplies and vehicles

Does is blink or is it a static icon? If you are referring to the star icon on the squad leader's position that is simply the icon representing the player is a squad leader. This icon will show up on all player's maps and HUD's. You may also be referring to the proxy attack icon. It uses the same image.
How did you know that enemy player had racked up a 6 kill streak? Every one of these "How To Command" videos tells you the features that the Commander has access to&just ignores any tips or help about how to read the battlefield or identify good places & situations to use particular tools or even any info on how to just follow the course of a squad or team?I presume that all these must be fairly obvious but I couldn't tell HOW you identified that enemy high value target,when you put the marker on him?

If you put the reticule on a squad leader, then order in a scan or EMP UAV, would that cause the UAV to follow that squad leader around, or would it just stay in the place where you first ordered it? Because that would be fantastic.

Ha Ha, It's impossible to make guys travel in squads. How will u be able to order them to do anything if they are not even on the same flag? Commander Role in BF2 is so much better. In BF4 it is useless. Unless you are part of a clan, this commander function will not be utilized effectively. Main reason engineers are most popular kit - have tools to be independent because you are automatically healed. In BF2 squad cooperation was important; in BF3 and BF4 lone wolfing is not so bad. But to really play BF, players should form a clan and practice and play together with VOIP. Now, Maggots, stop reading this crap on the internet and go conquer some flags.
This game is old now, but I really wish I could play a server where all the squads are communicating with each other and with the commander. I want every moving part to be in sync so people arent just winging it. Would be a thing of beauty 🥲

It centers the scan over the point where the squad leader was when deployed.

Correct. The entire squad hears you as if you were a part of the squad, but you can only talk to one at a time.
