This is something he discovers early on in this hypothetical film when he works with an alloy, due to small quantities, it's a relatively small explosion, still big enough to be a genuine problem, but still... This also works in reverse, disassembling atoms into ones that have much fewer components, but doing this can tend to cause explosive decompression if he does too much, particularly if he makes it a gas, "I know! I'll just make it into helium! no risk of having an incomplete atom!" "I didn't think that through"
