They will never sell me one for example, even if i had the money for it. It is a status symbol before anything else. Completely agree. Rolex is great but it is now more like jewelry than anything else. Casio still has real utility. Will be interesting to see the future for these brands. I think Casio is doing great with things like Oceanus and the all steel G Shocks. At the same time they don't abandon the lower end with great watches like the Royale, value packed Edifices and solar powered Lineage and MTP models, use of titanium, MiP displays. Design that influence others, has heritage yet evolves. Now Rolex, should demand slacken or perception on them change is not really that different from a host of other brands.
Mechanical watch makers' fair claim to fame is the astounding level of miniaturization and precision of their mechanisms. Truly incredible, but you know what is even more precise and incredible? It's engraving thousands of features on a "stone" of silicon (therefore the term "lithography") at the level of nanometers, with an extremely precisely controlled chemical composition, and, even further, to make such a marvel of engineering so affordable that even the poorest on this planet can buy one.
a burst of electromagnetic radiation created by a nuclear explosion will destroy all of your incredible engraved "stones" and you may continue keeping the useles junk on your wrist , but it will never work again, where any ROLEX will continue to operate despite EMP/NEMP, but it takes to have a brain to understand this
Rolex is a watch, but should not wear it when walking in a "bad neighborhood". Wearing a cheap Casio... nobody would give a fig about it. Okay, in a realistic measure: both shows the time, both are great, one is cheap, you will not cry about it when you scratch it, and nobody wants to rip it off your arm. The other shows the time, but everything else is just the direct opposite of the first one. In an alternative utopia world I would wear a Rolex. In the real one: the Casio.
I used to believe watches like Rolex costing thousands or more must be the best in every way, from good accuracy to more durable and can actually take a hit. I thought those watches must be even more low maintenance and just keep going without any issues. I also used to think I had to have a platinum watch, in order to be a real watch guy and get with the program. Fast forward to today it's a good thing I became interested enough in watches to learn all I can from videos like yours, and to just get what I like the most. I would never trade my Casios and Armitrons for the platinum watch I apparently wanted for Christmas at age 11! 18 years later, I'm asking myself when did I write that?! Found that written in ink sorting through some old stuff, ha!
Great video. My cousin is a police officer and rescue diver here and his duty watch is a DW5600E. It has endured daily wear for 10 years and still makes regular dives.
The level of detail you put into your videos is just sensational. This must have taken you a long time to put together so well done. I will now share this all over my Facebook groups!
Casio's are just such great value for money. Great styling with enough models to fill all your needs. My favourite one I own is my AQ-30W that Eddie Murphy wears in Beverly Hills Cop.

They are available in every country and almost anyone can buy one. Rolex on the other hand treats their customers badly, does shady business and puts funny price tags on their products. Well it's not Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet so it's not actually a luxury brand either. Besides, I personally don't like the look of most of Rolex watches anyway. So if i were to buy a luxury watch for a ridiculous amount Rolex is not up there, and for normal purchases it's too costly. For that reason I'm more than happy to buy Casio watches without thinking so much on it. Worse case scenario I can just give it away.
This vid is official. The information and delivery is award winning. There should be a RUclips Grammy award for best watch comparison documentary. I really enjoy this video.
No question that Casio has a high value for the money . I have a couple of G-Shocks and a A1000. And they are great. Still saving up for an Rolex Oyster Perpetual though.
A temperature sensor . They were pretty useless as to get an accurate reading you had to leave on a surface for like 30 mins. If it’s on your wrist then the reading is all wrong

Another fantastic video Gordon! There’s so much sentimentality around watches (particularly Swiss mechanical watches) that it’s easy for objectivity to fly out the window! For telling the time in a specific application there’s few times a Casio isn’t a better or more appropriate tool to do a job. But then as a wise man once said “if you spend more than $10 on a watch, you aren’t buying it to just tell the time” 😂
@@IlluminatingWatches Oh totally! And I’m right there with you! As soon as you’ve got a watch box, let alone watch BOXES then objectivity is just a distant spot in the rear view mirror 😂

re: 7:30 most of my Casio digitals are also WAY better than their stated spec of +/-30sec/month. Honestly, most of them are within 30sec a YEAR. It is a lot easier for normal people to test this now as your phone is basically using atomic time - or you can get it easily online to the second (which is how I know).
When I think of Rolex all that comes to mind is rehashing the same old over-hyped, bulky watches since the 1960s. Maybe it is just me (but I am a huge watch fan). Hopefully nowadays their dials and hands don't tarnish the way the old ones did. Casio are not perfect though. Their current offerings annoyingly don't appear to be as accurate as my '82 Marlin was. The sheer number of crowns Casio has snatched & holds from companies that are still considered industry giants, while the coattails Rolex have ridden either went to tatters long ago or belong to relative (albeit high end) bit players, just shows that Casio deserve their God Tier position. And the next crown is Apple’s.
When I think Rolex, I think of overly expensive watches for people to flaunt their money, or to, let's say, "compensate" for something else. I don't like Rolex. I think a lot of people are coming around to the same perspective . The history is great but it has so many undesirable connotations if you wear it prominently out and about
This is a no-brainer. Casio is light years more innovative and has conquered more wrists than Rolex. Rolex may be more coveted and aspirational, but it's merely an expensive show-off piece. Casio is pure champ!
@@IlluminatingWatches well I think the whole time he was wearing that Seiko because we can see the day and date in the same window at 3'o clock. I might be wrong too.
Stoppwatch, Timer, Alarm, Perpetual Calender… sure, you can give Alexa or Siri a shout, but imagine it‘s the mid-90s and you only know cellphones as large expensive bricks in the hands of obnoxious business people having the audacity to have a call in public and you just beat Super Mario World the first time while DOS just found your CD-ROM drive
Nice video. Casio is my favourite brand, I have a G-Shock Rangrman and a MRW-200h analogue, both great watches. Will probably get a Casio AE-1200-1a as I gave my one to my son. As much as a Rolex would be nice to have, it would be out of place for me and my work. Casio all the way for me!
Advantage Rolex - EMP event such as happened in 1859 when a solar flare burned out telegraph lines and it is not a matter of if this will happen again, but when. A mechanical watch will not be effected, but any quartz watch not properly shielded and 99.9% are not, will simply be fried. The reality is when the next EMP event occurs, our modern world will have far larger issues than digital watches failing. That said, mechanical watches will be what you will want.
Generally speaking if your Casio breaks you throw it out and buy a new one, if your Rolex breaks you fix it and keep wearing it. There are Rolex watches ( and quantity mechanical watches of many brands) that are 100 years old and still being worn and used daily... i seriously doubt you will see (Unfortunately i wont live to see) a 100 year old Casio on a grandchild's wrist. This is the simple difference between plastic digital watches and traditional mechanical watches. For function and accuracy every watch Casio included is obsolete, made so by computers aka Smartwatches.. they can do everything and anything your watch can do plus a million things yours never will... so if you strickly care about function and accuracy get a smartwatch.. if you want something that you will have an emotional connection to and that your childrens children will wear get a good mechanical watch.
I’ve got quite a few perfectly functioning digital watches from the 70s still working - which believe it or not is already 50 years ago. I think that’s pretty good going!
@IlluminatingWatches I have a few from the 70s as well however if one of them were to break in the area of something more then a battery change or a corrosion cleaning (batt acid on terminals or maybe a lead) then you will most likely be looking for a replacement module (NOS - good luck with that). And not to split hairs and at the risk of sounding like an asshole I seriously doubt that you have a 50 year old digital watch and certainly not a 50 year old Casio because they didn't make any in 73. The domaint watch in digital format at that time was an led module (like the Hamilton P2) and the reliability of the modules in those watches... well you can find working ones yes at a premium price but generally speaking a broken one is gonna stay broken. The first lcd digital (arguably)was made in late 72 (Seiko 06LC) and released in early 73 which would put it at 50 years, however I personally have never seen one in person. So if you own either of these I can only say that I'm envious of you! All that being said and for my last asshole statement.. 50 years is not 100 years and in fact it's half as long on a product that was not designed to be serviced and maintained so my educated guess for the future is that you are more likely to see a 200 year old Rolex's on people's wrists then 100 year old Casio when history takes us to that point. More likely you will find them in horology museums but not on normal people's wrists. I love all watches, I lived through the 70s and enjoyed wearing my cheap casio through the quartz crisis and my timex calculator watch for years.. I loved my video game watches, my TV remote control watches, and I still wear an f91w to work on the car and various banging around work. Yet the watch that I wear and the one that I care about is the one that my grandmother gave me when I was 8 years old; it was her father's, manual wind mechanical.. had it serviced 2 years ago.. it tells time, that's what it does, accurate to a couple of seconds a day, more then reasonable for my needs and I'm sure that when I'm gone the next generation will be wearing it getting it serviced and looking forward to passing it down to their kids with of course the stories of the people who wore it before. I'm sorry my friend but that is not gonna happen with a g-shock (BTW I broke 2 of them, don't know how but the unbreakable watch broke on me twice, 2 different models lol). No hard feelings, wear what you enjoy!
@@justafanmarvel9669 ha ha no worries at all. Check out some of my casio and digital watch history videos. Earliest I have specifically from casio is a QW04 Casiotron likely 74-75 so granted slightly below 50 years.
Also Gruen teletime using a ILIXCO LCD module was before seiko if we’re talking twisted nematic LCD , with dynamic scattering display LCDs coming marginally before this. Check out my history on the evolution of the LCD display. Seiko first 6 digit and first multifunction 👍
@IlluminatingWatches that's why I said arguably.. there has been debate as to who was actually first and some of it has to do with proto type vs production and one company's employees leaving to goto the competition etc. But 72 is the rough best estimate
These are two very different watches, they don’t compete with each other. As far as time keeping yes obviously the Casio is a million times more accurate and can do more than a Patek Philippe with a few complications on it. Both have their pros & cons, but the Casio has less cons than a Rolex. The con’s The case design… this is 2022 not 1987 The case material… use everyday as intended you can’t polish plastic after dings & scratches. I wear a suit…. you will look goofy wearing a Casio to a board meeting with a suit. The heirloom value…. Will this watch help a loved one after your dead if they need to sell it for money? No. A Rolex can help get a loved one (or you) out of a tough financial situation. Like I said incomparable watches. What you should say…. Everyone needs to own both a Casio and a Rolex.
Ha ha so I actually do regularly wear a casio to board meetings - but I don’t worry too much about looking goofy! Substance over presentation is the priority. I’m more of a watch brand history nerd so it’s more about which story is overall more interesting to me - often more than the watch itself - which I know is quite an obscure perspective!
Any company that makes you buy other watches before you can buy the watches you want is not for me. 1000 Casios for the price of one decent Rolex, sign me up!
@@IlluminatingWatches I bought my first Casio G-Shock, two weeks ago, the new GA-B001-1AER. I love the design of the watch very much. It's very beautiful.
I used to feel the same way, but some of us are finding the need to step away from our own smartphones because there's that need to disconnect temporarily from a device that can turn addictive. With a Casio you can take it anywhere, and just get the basics.
Rolex also don't had footballer as their ambassador. Their prefer tennis player or f1 driver.. Because football is working class and folk sports, which don't fit their identity. But at the end, who care? I prefer something affordable and functional. Casio forever
@@IlluminatingWatches yes it is trending right now, it may help out the video, which to be honest does not need any help, great video! I am re-watching some parts now. But it was crazy, because of everything you explain in here, so yea i prefer a Clara! jeje
Casio all the way. The ppl who claim they won't last as long as a Rolex are liars. I've had a digital one for 10+ years, and my uncle has had his ana-digi one for 30+ years. Aside from battery replacements, the watches have had no issues.
I’m sensing unconvinced! I’m getting some heat for this perspective over on WatchCrunch so my perspective seems to be a divisive one. It’s a genuinely held perspective though I promise.
I dont like rolex. And i dont like people that like rolex too. But your video is more about dilgital vs analog. Casio watches are fragile. PLASTIC cases are fragile. Plastic parts are designed to fail - disintegrate after some years. The screws can be screwed and unscrewed FOUR times. Then you must replace the whole CASE (it is written in a casio service manual). Their lugs are fragile. You can easily break them or destroy their holes if you want to change straps. Casio has become a ridiculous brand when they stopped to use stainless steel cases for their digitals (and they stopped because they sell them more as single-use toys) A video comparing invicta 8926 with rolex submariner would be more interesting.
Ha ha as long as people are enthusiastic about watches of any kind I’m fine. It’s only where people are only buying watches to show off wealth that I get annoyed
I’m not so pessimistic. There’s been a bit of a surge of interest in casio more recently , and even though the Rolex demand is softening slightly they still can’t make enough of them to satisfy demand. There are aspects of smart watch history that I also find quite interesting (did a video on the digital watch technology tree that covers this topic a bit)
Moj pametni sat spletom okolnosti nije imao par puta konekciju gde nisam imao osnovne podatke; koliko je sati, nego prazan ekran?
Wait, ROLEX was only chosen because the letters looked cool? You mean they're basically SKMEI if they started in 19th century Britain? 😆 If you're smart, you'll store away a few of their Casio knockoffs so you can resell your "pristine early 21st century vintage watches" at auction on a Chinese Mars colony to fund your retirement.
Ha ha ha ha top comment. Yes that’s right. “Genie whispered it in his ear…” . I just wish 10 year old me had bought up all the cool Casios at the time. I’d be loaded!
Simple is like that: likely no thug will rip off your watch with your arm included wearing a cheap Casio. Wearing a Rolex... well, maybe will attract some unwanted attention.

I love my PRW-30. I wish Armitron would innovate more like Casio. 😔
The PRW-30 is awesome
That was a splash of knowledge.
Oh no! The digi-pocalypse!
Great video. You missed a category where Rolex is nowhere to be found: the digital gaming watch, haha!! Best regards
Ha ha yes! You should look at the Samsung phone watch video too. Crazy
Fantastic video as always, my friend! 🙂
Thankyou sir! Much appreciated as always
casio is way more interesting that any other watch brands imo
Fantastic video mate, totally agree with your justifications!
Much appreciated !
Rolex is show off while casio is what you work with
I believe the 'American Psycho' reference (believe it or not!) was actually a slightly modified Seiko 5, not a Rolex!!
I seem to remember TGV did a video on this and they seem to have used both watches - hence the confusion!
So much passion and details you put in this (and other videos) video! I love it!
Thankyou! I’m glad that comes through. Only do this because I enjoy it!
Many people who buy high end watches, don't realize that they need service and it's not cheap.
wow the cosmo phase is such a cool watch 😧
New Video! You saved my life.👏👏👏
very well researched ! Thank you!
Thankyou!
Awesome video!
Much appreciated 🙏
The con’s
The case design… this is 2022 not 1987
The case material… use everyday as intended you can’t polish plastic after dings & scratches.
Yuki Kitazume approved!
Ha ha I’d been waiting for this videos name
Tough times ahead & I did it aswell - way ahead of time...
Bâle got a seiko not a gold rolex
Why not a gold seiko!
Luv my 20 Casio’s…!!! 👍😊💥
As you should! You need more I think !
Casios, not Casio's. There's no apostrophe.
@@IlluminatingWatches 👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣
I paid 3 bucks 4 my casio.
Now that’s a deal!
Casio is a true wach and a rolex is a true jewel, simple like that,,
Any company that makes you buy other watches before you can buy the watches you want is not for me. 1000 Casios for the price of one decent Rolex, sign me up!
Amen!!
Casio d106👍 supear
Japanese watches always wins .
No body can make watches like Japanese.
Maybe Germany in second place.
The swiss.
Amazing video! Congratulations.
Thankyou! Really glad you enjoyed!
@@IlluminatingWatches I bought my first Casio G-Shock, two weeks ago, the new GA-B001-1AER. I love the design of the watch very much. It's very beautiful.
Oh cool - yes that is actually a new design. Not seen one in person yet
Cuando pienso en ROLEX pienso en una marca demasiado cara y con precios demasiado inflados.
clocks suck is 2023, you have the time on the phone, on the laptop, on the car, on the wall, and smart watches are better as the apple watch
I like clocks and smart watches :)
I used to feel the same way, but some of us are finding the need to step away from our own smartphones because there's that need to disconnect temporarily from a device that can turn addictive. With a Casio you can take it anywhere, and just get the basics.
people who don't need a smartwatch if they're already sports professionals or adventurers. they use what they need
Great video. New Sub.
Welcome to the channel! So glad you enjoyed and please do take a look around. Lots more videos where this came from, and lots of Casio!
Casio is king of value. Rolex is king of marketing.
(I think you might like my uploads btw)
Subscribed :)
Rolex also don't had footballer as their ambassador. Their prefer tennis player or f1 driver.. Because football is working class and folk sports, which don't fit their identity. But at the end, who care? I prefer something affordable and functional. Casio forever
How many ended up here because of Shakira?
Didn’t know they liked Casios!
Ha ha i now get this. On bbc news just saw about the diss track saying “swapping a Rolex for a casio” .
@@IlluminatingWatches yes it is trending right now, it may help out the video, which to be honest does not need any help, great video! I am re-watching some parts now.
But it was crazy, because of everything you explain in here, so yea i prefer a Clara! jeje
@@AtlasJuega tweaked the title to see if it makes any difference. If it works - I owe you one!!
@@IlluminatingWatches I hope it gives some.
Casio all the way.
The ppl who claim they won't last as long as a Rolex are liars.
I've had a digital one for 10+ years, and my uncle has had his ana-digi one for 30+ years.
Aside from battery replacements, the watches have had no issues.
I have a lovely gshock if anyone is interested in trading it for a Rolex.
I’m sensing unconvinced! I’m getting some heat for this perspective over on WatchCrunch so my perspective seems to be a divisive one. It’s a genuinely held perspective though I promise.
SHAKIRA
Casio!
@@IlluminatingWatches it would last a lifetime ♥️
Oh no! Well I’m double not liked as I enjoy casio and Rolex, but I understand the perspective. It’s good to have an independent perspective anyway!
Casio still makes digital watches with steel cases. (And some even in Titanium.) For example the square G-Shock B5000. And the A1000.
Watch lover vs Watch snob is the only real way to explain it. U r one or the other and it is a fact
Ha ha as long as people are enthusiastic about watches of any kind I’m fine. It’s only where people are only buying watches to show off wealth that I get annoyed
Casio🎉
Yo! Your boy sukh says high!
Ha ha thanks for the old fashioned sir!
Sadly both watches will be going down soon, with the advent of smart watches
I’m not so pessimistic. There’s been a bit of a surge of interest in casio more recently , and even though the Rolex demand is softening slightly they still can’t make enough of them to satisfy demand. There are aspects of smart watch history that I also find quite interesting (did a video on the digital watch technology tree that covers this topic a bit)
Moj pametni sat spletom okolnosti nije imao par puta konekciju gde nisam imao osnovne podatke; koliko je sati, nego prazan ekran?
Where my Casio gang at?
Wait, ROLEX was only chosen because the letters looked cool? You mean they're basically SKMEI if they started in 19th century Britain? 😆
If you're smart, you'll store away a few of their Casio knockoffs so you can resell your "pristine early 21st century vintage watches" at auction on a Chinese Mars colony to fund your retirement.
Are you high...

Amazing content as always, very interesting too. definitely Casio all the way for me. Ps. thanks for the likes on my channel, I need them!😓😁
Always bank on me for a like and a comment. Keep it up!
there should be a pic of a rolex when you google the word "tacky"
Ha ha I’ve seen some pretty bad Casios too though…
