I hate how fish and hamsters are treated almost as "living toys". I myself was guilty of that when I was a kid, but it was because I was not properly educated.
In fairs when I see gold fish being given to children as a prize, I'm like WHY??
When I was a lil kid my local fair was giving lizards as prizes 😢 living toys is the perfect description. It’s on parents to do better.
Same my mom treated pets as living toys and abused them and Im sad to say as a child I treated them terribly too because of that but now I've learned how to properly care for and treat animals but sadly my mom and grandma still treat animals terribly and won't listen.
People put betas in cups
@@fishbikehike that doesn't make that a livable environment where the fish can thrive
@@menacetosociety471 I was saying it was bad
I won a goldfish as a prize at a fair when I was little. I became absolutely enamoured with the little guy, so my father helped me set up a nice tank for him. Our at-home filtration system was kinda shoddy, so I had to change the water more frequently, but I managed to keep the water healthy for my fish. I became SUPER interested in fish and hyperfixated on them during my Otto's lifetime. My little guy didn't live too long, only a few years, and he got HUGE. My Otto lived for about three and a half years, which is already ancient for an inbred little feeder fish, but it still felt way too short. I was absolutely GUTTED when he died. He was 11-year-old me's whole world, and losing him was all I could think about for the school year. The more I see videos and channels like this talking about fish care, the more confident I am that I gave that little feeder fish the best life I could. I hope to take care of fish again someday, in Otto's honor. They're such beautiful creatures, no pet deserves to be a "disposable" pet.
Haha same experience. Tangerine here is still alive, as we put her into our well established guppy tank. She ate all our guppies!
sounds like you were really responsible and caring and did an excellent job, especially for being so young. you should be proud of yourself
Sounds about right! Goldfish naturally grow quite big, but lots of people don't know that because most people think it's fine to keep them in tiny little bowls, stunting their growth. Idk a whole lot about fancy goldfish (I very much dislike most fancy goldfish, the same way I dislike how people have bred pugs and siamese cats), so maybe some of those are bred to stay smaller, but I know that normal goldfish are meant to grow much bigger than people think.
H..h…how d…do y…you write…s..soo many..w..w….word..d.ds
my uncle threw my goldfish in the toilet when I was on vacation and he took care of it, there were no problems, he cleaned the aquarium
Remember, any pet needs special care and love, no matter their size or appearance.

🐠 In fish keeping, education is key.
Each fish has its own unique care requirements so it’s hard to answer this question with a straightforward answer.
Overall, it’s easy to maintain a beautiful tank but it’s also just as easy to make mistakes - I know I’ve made a few that’s for sure.
Hopefully me sharing my experiences helps you to not make the same ones!
thank you for inspiring me to get guppies
Can I know about the prawn you're feeding? Is it cooked? And how do you know how much to feed them in one go? Can you recommend any sites ... 👉👈
You deserve 1M subscribers you’ve been posting videos for 8 years!!
You should try Mosquitofish, easy to care for, easy to breed, and are honestly awesome! I have one, and I love looking at him everyday, they do good with guppies, if you want to breed, make sure to have more females, and why did this rhyme inside my head
I will always look forward for a fish class and you being my teacher
I've had fish in my tank and a couple days ago they turned 3 years old! :D we've gotten pretty serious with how we take care of them, we check pH, Ammonia, oxygen, etc on almost a weekly bases and we feed the fishes a variety of live, frozen, meat and veg etc. I love them with all my heart and even though cleaning the tank and draining the water is tiring, seeing them swim around and grow families is more than worth it!!!
One of my beta’s named blue survived for about 1-to-2 years or so. We were all surprised
I used to work in a pet store (corporate chain) and we had specific requirements about who could and couldn’t buy fish. The amount of people I had to turn away because they wanted to keep their fish in tiny bowls (some people like to use live fish as table decorations?) was shocking. People really think fish don’t need care just because they’re small :/
W store man
That store sounds awesome. An employee at my local chain store told me I didn't need the large tank I was getting for a goldfish bc it could be kept in a Mason jar 💀
@@brownieboy8405 Pet stores in germany won't sell you goldfish until you can prove that you have a large pond or a 600 liter tank.
When I was a kid I had some fish as pets and they always died, it made me feel kind of guilty, then when I grew up I started getting interested in fish keeping channels and oh boy, was I unprepared. I think most people don't know how much (if not effort, at least knowledge) it takes to properly take care of a fish and they just give it to children without properly preparing them for the experience
Same here… i had a cichlid tank as a child, with new cichlids every second week
Got back into the hobby a year ago, & im still learning new things.
As a parent people should either inform themselves or have their kids study the matter a little before just buying a fish. You wont buy a new dog every week if your kid doesn’t take care of it, so why kill fish for fun? 🙃
“Weee look at me mom! I’m jumpin in the spoon!!!!”

Bettas are definitely easy. I had a girl and she was so smart, everytime I came into my room she swam right up and followed me around. I would definitely say she was happy

From experience, I find that 'beginner fish' are still harder to care for than a dog. Although bettas and goldfish can live long lives under bad living conditions, as you say. Surviving doesn't equal thriving, the bettas and goldfishes I saw in other people's houses have scales that are falling off and fin rot problems.
If you live in ignorance and buy fish without educating yourself, it's easy. But when you actually do your research, fish keeping is so hard😂 (and expensive AF)!
Me and my dad wanted to keep goldfishes but after I told him what it would take to keep them healthy and beautiful he said it was too much work and we don't have the space to house them.
A fish should never be harder to take care of then a dog. You should be walking your dog 5 times a week or preferably everyday. Dogs need near constant attention and there food is expensive.
@@wolverinexo6417 I think the problem is what she said where people think surviving is good enough because most people can't tell whether a fish is "happy" or not with their quality of living.
Idk about being "harder" but it's definitely more tedious to me to learn everything your fish needs, make sure everything from the ph, ammonia, salinity, temperature, co2 levels, bacteria etc are balanced correctly to have healthy growing fish + the consistent cleaning of their tanks and average care taking, not to mention random diseases that seem to just come out of nowhere vs. A pretty easy to understand dog with simple needs similar to our own so we can easily recognize when something is wrong.
Ofc it's up to personal opinion and as someone that's owned both it's obviously never an easy job to be any pet parent!
@@wolverinexo6417 fish need constant attention to water parameter water quality must be maintained. Walking a dog 5 times a week isn’t that big of a deal or difficult if you miss one day of a dog walk your dog will be fine if your still regularly walk it. If you miss a water change it could be serious. Water quality can easily change if you accidentally overfeed your fish it could put major stress. fish keeping is harder then keeping a dog if you don’t have live plants and no micro fauna .
@@wolverinexo6417 I think it's easier to understand dogs though, mammal to mammal. I'll know better if a dog is hungry or upset or in pain than a fish that's just like Glub Glub 👁️ 👄 👁️
My dad thought about getting gold fish so he made a 600 liter pond in the front yard but then the 6 that we bought did not survive even a week but the 6 tiny wild fish that we put in there multiplied and are probably 30 or more now.
Their names are Silfur, Katrín, Ásgeir, Björn, Árni, Kjartan, Þórarinn, Mæja, Skúli, Baldur, Smári, Vala, Hjalti, Hjálmar, Guðmundur, Einar, Vilhjálmur and so on and so on
Puts whole shrimp in the tank. The fish: YESSSSS!!!!
I had a beta for about 4 and a half years! His name was flame and he always showed signs of being healthy! We had cared for fish before I got him so we already had previous knowledge! We got him a spacious tank and make sure he had a good diet and always checked decorations or plants for things his fins could be caught on! It makes me so sad that people often don’t take proper care of their betas.
You don't just have a pet fish, you have a pet ecosystem.
I'm sorry I can't focus with the Minecraft eating sounds 😭
Tbh I think it oddly satisfying
I had a beta, he stuck around way after his intended life span, I took really good care of him, I loved him a lot, he was really pretty and I felt good about the life I gave him, his sponge bob themed tank was a big step up from his little plastic cup from the pet store, Miss you Bow, I love you
Those fish be like “FOOD!”😂
"beginner pets" aren't just pets you get without knowing sh and just assuming, it's pets to start off with when you've done research AND gotten more info then needed from professionals

The mistreatment of fish is so sad tbh :( they're actually really smart pets and need a lot of care and love, that's why I loving seeing your videos every so often, you're really devoted to them :)
I got 2 tanks and I'm going to make a water bridge and have some live plants and a few guppies, I'm going to try to take as good care of them as I can but if anyone has tips for me I would appreciate it a ton
May I add something to the end?

It’s kinda hard tbh lol but you gotta love them to take care of them good
Oops why do I keep forgetting something important what meant to say was,*and they died. So ya 😥

I’m so glad I saw this video! When I was younger, I had 2 goldfish in a decent sized fish bowl. Later on I got another goldfish because one died and I got an upgrade on the tank. One day when I was going to check up on them, they seemed like the were doing perfectly fine, but the next day when it was feeding time, sadly they were both floating at the top of the tank, and had no idea what was happening!
The background sounds 🥺❤️❤️😂👑
My beginner pets are Three Dogs,Two Cats That went Missing :( but BUYED another one and a Hamster
When my dog died when I was 5, my parents got a beautiful fan tail goldfish. She lived for 2 years and I loved just sitting and watching her swim around her tank
AYO I THOUGHT MY ALARM WAS ON AND ITS JUST THE BACKGROUND MUSIC!
Funny story
Today i bought a Siamese fighter fish and he wants to breed with the others even tho he has anger issues
Edit: he died a few days ago :(
Edit 2: he was put in his own tank after an hour.
Edit 3: it’s not my fault what the fish shop said. So slate and that. Stop calling me an abuser and take down the comments calling me an abuser because it’s making me sad
Japanese Fighter Fish are the definition of anger issues, I swear. 🤣
That's Not funny though-
Japanese fighter fish or Beta fish aren't supposed to (most of the time) be with other fish so I would say you should probably get a separate big tanks for the betas and if you can't afford that then you shouldn't have betas.
Also the tank pet stores like Petco and
PetSmart put them are don't prove anything about them living in small spaces because in reality beta need big tanks
Also another thing don't get bowls.
Also beta fish aren't supposed to be with any species of fish I believe their called fighting for a reason
Why is he with other fish???
@@littleleakyleakythere ya that's what I asked and they said " I dIdN'T PuT hIm WiTh oThEr BeTaS tHoUgH" and quickly deleted it because they know they aren't taking care of their beta like wth you don't put betas with ANY fish! I swear people need to do more research

for anyone wanting a fish that is easy to take care of...i recomend a small pleco
it eats algae in you tank...so you don't have to feed it that often, and i think they do pretty well with other fish

How long were you away for, it obviously isn't good for them to go too long without food but it wouldn't kill them if they went a little while without anything.

In my experience guppies are the hardest fish to keep. I love guppies, but always struggle to keep them alive :( I had other fish thriving in the community tank for years, but guppies only live 2-3 months max. I even set a separate tank exclusively for guppies with all the parameters met, but still they're dieing. I gave up on guppies

My beginner fish survived for 7 years 😊
The little guppies are so cute
I had zebra fish for a while as a teenager and it required intense research and a lot of attention to detail. I learned a lot from other fish owners and before I even got mine, I learned to acclimate their water to the tank, etc. It was fun but a lot of work and I respect people immensely for having fish long term! It’s definitely not easy!
Saying "hey my fish lived a long life in a small fish bowl" is the equivalent to saying "hey I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day but I never got cancer"
I had a nice healthy goldfish the other day. His tank had an algae problem. Algae would not stop coming. My mom bought algae control or something from Walmart, the day after she put it in he wouldn’t eat. I saw that as a problem because he always rushed to eat. I gave it another say but i regretted that. I woke up the next day to find him dead. Would not recommend algae control from Walmart!!! RIP my sweet baby Finn. I will never forget you 💔
I swear I laughed so hard when the fish kept going in the spoon, it was so cute

I had multiple betta fish, one lived two years, one lived a week (it was sick, I told my mom, and she said it was fine, it died three days later), and one who lived a year.
For a kid in 4th grade I think I did a great job. They lived in a pretty large tank and I cleaned it pretty often.
Bro those fish are living a better life than me

this is so true. yesterday my betta fish past away from a fish sickness called ich (ick) we didn't notice anything until the day before. we tried out best and got him the medicine he needed but it was to late. rest in peace doug 🕊️😔
Yes bettas can be hard to get the environment right, plus I found when you buy them from the pet store, they can already be stressed and die not long after you bring them home. On the other hand, my pond goldfish were just feeder fish and they are thriving. Started out as big as my pinkie and now they are a handspan. They started having babies last summer, much to my surprise.
my fish was won from a fair. that very same day we got him a big tank and a filter for that tank. we feed him every day and he’s been with us for 8 years and still he seems very happy 😊
It was so satisfying seeing you take out every single green bit of the shape 😭
One of my fish was supposed to live for a year but surprisingly it survived for 3 YEARS!!!
I got 2 Goldfish and they have been alive for 2 years, we got them from a old backyard pond
this is the same thing with birds, people impulse buy parakeets because they think they’re “easy to care for” but end up returning them because they realise any pet needs proper attention
I had a catfish that lived for 5 years
He’s literally moved houses with us twice and survived living in a tank with a psychotic Oscar fish

Goldfish are generally so hard to look after properly. One time I had to help my friend figure out what to do with her goldfish
I had a fish named freckle because of the dot on his head and he lived for about nine months even though that I didn’t really take care of him 🤧🤧❤️❤️
Love how u feed the fish fish
One time when I was like 7, I had a decently sized tank with goldfish, and the mama killed her babies after a while. She just ate them for no reason. They were being fed, the tank was being cleaned. I just woke up one day and the mama fish ate like her 2-4 kids. She didn’t even finish them.
We got two fair goldfish that died almost immediately in our tank, we didn't know they were cold water fish(we were like 7 and 8), so when we found out the type of fish that were warm water we got fish suited for the tank and water we had. All of our fish lived for years even after we gave them away after that, lol. Bala sharks have got to be my favorite!
My beta fish Finley living like he’s a king ngl big tank nice heaters even nice plants even with it being an easy fish they still need a lot of love no matter what pet it is
My Betta lived 5 years in a 2.5 gallon tank

I had a beta named Louie and a goldfish Comit they died but they were like 2 already so
RIP Comit and RIP Louie 😿😭😭😿
A friend who moved left a fish behind to me when I was a child. Another girl and I "split custody" and took care of it swhiching it each month. All I was told is to change the water and use the heater - but my father kept unplugging it because he thought it was a fire hazard. I didn't know better and now looking back I feel really sorry for the fish.
I once had a goldfish last 5 years but another one last 6 months. It really depends on the fish and the health that it is at when you get it.
You are just…… amazing!
