price makes those pointless. They are far more expensive than two 4tb drives. And if you don't care about price then you can always buy server ssds with way more capacity.
@@honkhonk6219Anyone here remember the first SSD pricing? 2.5 inch SATA SSD drives, 64 GB, 128 GB, back around 2006, 2007, wow, those were a fortune back then.
The thing I'd like to see most is Asus' idea of repurposing never used RAM slots and turning them into m.2 slots. Betting more than 75% of all diy builds of the last three years have open RAM slots.
I like this a lot personally but I also like the idea of having extra RAM slots in case something goes wrong and you can test RAM in different slot or just using it cause one of the channel is faulty. Definitely has happened to me before but not of late... Not sure how it will play out in the long run. But always down to try new things. *eyes opened*
There is already one that I know that comes with it's own heatsink installed and 8TB. It's the Nextorage NEM-PA. 7300MB/s Read and 6600MB/s Write. There are also a multiple of other brands with similar 6-7k specs on amazon at 8TB hovering around $650 to $890. The only way I think you could get 8TB of storage for about $500 is to buy two 4TB drives. The Silicon Power XS70 is a good option as it still has a dram cache and included heatsink. $520 for two on amazon.
This is the first time I've heard someone confirm what controller the nm1090 uses, I seen it announced a while ago, and I was wondering if Innogrit had something new or what they were using. I've been waiting for SM2508 drives, because the E26 and Innogrit's gen 5 controller just use too much power and dissipate way too much heat, the SM2508 put the thermal profile more in line with a gen 4 drive which can run comfortably under the aluminum slabs most motherboard manufacturers provide without the need of tall heatsinks with or without fans. I wouldn't mind the big heatsinks because I love overkill but with the exception of Thermalright no other tower cooler manufacturer seems to have gotten the memo about not having the finstack sit significantly south of the socket also Arctic's Liquid Freezer can't be used with tall heatsinks because the tubes overhang the m.2 slot on pretty much every board made even worse with the AM5 offset.
They have been in the PC space for 5 years now after they were acquired by a flash memory company in China. Good products by the look of it. I think I got one of their flash drives.
from my experience you def need a heat sink on a gen 5 drive. and most cheaper mobos integrated heat sink is far from adequate. it would cool to see you test various gen 5 drives and heatsinks.
Awesomesauce video Paul and Joe. Lexar makes some really nice storage options 👌 especially with those DJI Osmo cameras. So far it looks like some terrific footage. I can't wait to hear a nice post-CES report on this way of shooting footage. Woo hoo!! Caffeinator out.
Hey Paul, you should do a video about the performance of your mini-itx build in the TR100 with the Gigabyte board. I remember you did one for the last PC you brought, but you had problems with that one.
can't wait to see the price on that m.2, after upgrading to an x870 chipset board i've been wanting to populate it with gen 5 drives so maybe this is my chance ha ha
Would be nice to get the gen 4 drives at a reasonable with greater than 2 or 4tb storage with the games always increasing in size. Just for laugh I would want to mention the 2Tb green & black spin drives in the computer have a label on them dated purchased year 2007. So, increases in faster overall capacity of storages seems to move very slowly
Unfortunately the NM790 8TB is about $800. A hundred USD per TB is fairly horrible in terms of pricing. The 4TB and 2TB versions are closer to $70 a TB. Wake me up when high capacity NVME has price parity with SSDs.
I get worried about the quality control, when the stickers on the RAM reveals "MEDE in China". If the authentic stuff is doing this, how can we spot the fake knock-offs?
8tb. What a time to be alive.

@honkhonk6219 who says you have to buy those now? These will eventually get cheaper like all drives do.

loved watching them on newegg in 2012
To be honest, I'd like cheap 8tb gen 3 drives to put in an SSD NAS. I don't need high speeds, just high capacity and low power usage.
I just hope that TLC 8tb drives become viable someday.
Love all the CES content!
Paul needs some hand moisturizer.
It's the cheap Vegas hotel soap.
Take care man, take your time and damn please hug Kyle for us.
Nice to know 2x24gb Hinix M-Die isn't being fazed out!
Still waiting for cheap 8TB SSDs and in case of Lexar where are those armour series of SD cards?

I love CES. Thank you, Paul, for being there in my stead.
Stay safe! love you!
No new larger 2.5 Sata SSDs is a bit disappointing since they only offer one up to 2TB. With the MX500 EOL I am on the hunt for some replacements.
They have at least 8TB. They won’t be releasing newer 2.5” drives.
Wish the slower/cheaper m.2 ssds offered 8tb. 6/7k read and write is good enough for what I’m planning on using it for!

I don't really care about PCI 5, passively cooled and capacity are what get my attention. No heatsink, please
990 Evo Plus 8TB???
Thank you Paul
Lexar CL26 availability in North America when?

Hynix and WD also showed off lower-power gen5 drives like half a year ago, but they've not released yet.
@@concinnus I know Samsung has one coming too, but I think they were going to release an OEM version first then a retail version later down the line.

I'd take 7 of those 8TB or 4TB NVMe drives. 🤩😍 Three for the motherboard and 4 for a NVMe PCI-E card I currently use with 1TB drives.
