Definitely proud to see my hometown host its third Olympic Games. My grandfather graduated class of 1931 from Jefferson High in Los Angeles and saw the Olympics come to the city in 1932.

That's awesome. Nothing quite like the Olympics. My hometown is Perris, Ca and they're hosting the rowing events and I'm gonna go just to say I did. Make sure to keep that ticket and put it in a scrapbook
The LA Olympics are the only ones to have made money, same as the world cup that was held in the US. Most money is lost when cities and countries build infrastructure that is never used again. LA and the US use existing infrastructure and so can make money.
Back when I mademy comment the plans were a little different. Some were suggesting using sofi for just the closing ceremony. Others had both sofi and the coliseum for the opening ceremony, but a lot of it would be taking place at the coliseum. Even though the coliseum got renovated, I would much rather a state of the art brand new stadium be used.@@portcybertryx222

Most of the costs for the Olympics go towards the construction of stadiums and infrastructure. However, all of the major venues being used for the LA 2028 Olympics are already built (SoFi, Colesium, Olympic Village at UCLA, etc.) and have existing tenants, and Measures R and M were voted on before the Olympics were announced. So the cost of hosting the Olympics in LA is already much lower compared to most cities. Really, LA could host the Olympics tomorrow if needed.
No, the Olympics and world cup actually make money in the US and especially Los Angeles, because most money goes into building infrastructure. The US is so wealthy, and LA such a tourism city, that they are ready for it.
