Glad you are feeling better. No questions... I'm always just along for the ride! Last year the whole family got personalized ornaments thanks to you! The manger, the school bus, kitty stocking and you gave me the courage to design two myself. A jeep and a Plymouth/Dodge Mopar star. Thanks for all you do.
Hi Max! I was so happy to read this. I would love to see what you made and when I figure out how to do it, I will post a link to our Facebook group where you can share pictures. My 3 brothers have been into drag racing for forever. And one of my nieces raced a jr. dragster when she was barely a teenager. I had a Plymouth for years...a Voyager mini van...LOL...but I loved it.
I'm going to have to think on this. I'm in a kind of a slump and not making much. Maybe that's a good question. You have SOOOOOOOO many great ideas and designs. Do you ever run out of mojo? Run out of ideas? And if so, what do you do to get it back?
What got you started in polymer clay? How was it starting your business and booking shows? Do you have any advice for someone who's been doing clay for a few years and wants to start doing it as a full time job? Have you ever tried other clay types such as air dry, etc? Do you have a favorite ornament? How long have you been doing polymer clay? What's the biggest show you've done? Im sorry for having lots of questions. Your very inspiring to me and i enjoy your videos and open personality. I have a lot more questions but i think ill leave it there lol. Thank You 😊
First, let me say that your designs are stunning; I have so enjoyed watching your creations and listening to your tips & tricks! I’m planning a dough party, and, I can’t help but wonder, can these ornaments be done or made using salt dough or paper clay? They could be painted, but, I’m thinking of food coloring to dye the dough or clay, that will cut down on some mess... maybe. Your thoughts are much appreciated! Thank you!
I actually started with salt dough and all these designs can be made using it. I used food coloring and paint. Be sure to keep the dough covered because it tends to dry out. Sounds like a fun party! let me know how it turns out.
I started useing clay last year but this year I cannot get back into it at all I keep buying clay and stuff . Have you any suggestions that would help me thank you so much I love your videos
Hi Maria, this is Sarah! My question is how do you know how many of each ornament to make per day of a show? In November I have my very first craft show. I'm the only one selling ornaments! I watched your video on your craft fairs and so I made sure that when I reserved my spot I was close to the entrance, like 20 feet away and I took the two ends of one aisle and I'm on the row in the middle. I'm extremely excited and scared to death all at the same time. I'm here in Chickasha, Oklahoma, at the Grady County Fair Fairgrounds. She is advertising everywhere! I'm so glad you're feeling better Maria. I looked at you as a friend. I'm retired now and I've been preparing this Art Studio for two years. I bought all my supplies and set up my dining room which we never used as my studio! I really appreciate your help that you give all of us!
Hi Sarah! I hope you already have some ornaments made! I don't know how big the show is or how many days you will be there but I would take a minimum of 100 ornaments per day if possible. Also, will you be personalizing? Baby's first Christmas, angels, snowmen, Santas, elves, gingerbread house, teddy bear, penguins, and of course family ornaments. My most popular family ornament is the snowman heads. And it is easy to do. Be sure to make some little dog bone ornaments that can be personalized. Sounds like you have a great location. Be sure your table coverings go to about 4 inches from the ground. Decorate your booth but don't overwhelm it with decor. You want people to focus on the ornaments. Have price signs because people hate asking how much something costs. Bring plenty of change.....most people pay with a 20 dollar bill. Have fun and remember that these are strange Covid days and the crowds might not be as big as in previous years. Good luck and let us know how you made out!
I feel the same as some of these other ladies that posted a question... I have totally lost all desire to clay anymore..I've made hundreds of ornaments, fairy houses, jewelry, etc. but about 2 months ago I stopped, took a break and now I just can't get back into it... has that ever happened to you? What did you do to help get the spunk back?..
Hi there Maria! I hope it's okay that I reposted these from another video. I've remembered a couple of my questions for this. 1) What are some ornaments that you think would be the most fun/easiest to make if you're wanting to have a child (around age 6) try their hands at it? 2) Do you have a favourite ornament or multiple that you have made, even if they weren't particularly popular at the craft shows? Thanks very much and I wish you a speedy recovery! :)
Hi Maya! Thank you! Go to the Simply Ornaments homepage on RUclips and click on PLAYLISTS. Then click on TIPS. Under that category, I have a video on personalizing.
My question is have you ever had anyone complain about your ornaments or just a difficult customer? If so how do you handle it? I ask because i recently i had this happen for the first time and it really made me question myself about selling my ornaments. Thanks
I am sorry this happened to you but when you create and sell your creations there will always be someone who is not satisfied. Most of my problems were with personalizing. I don't know what happened to you but the best way to satisfy an unhappy customer is to offer to fix the problem, replace the ornament, or refund their money. These things happen. Do not let it upset you. This is part of business. And it will probably happen again. A tip about personalizing....if you are at a show, have the customer spell the name, write it on a piece of paper, show it to them for verification and then personalize. This way it will be their fault if it is spelled incorrectly. Don't beat yourself up over a mistake. It happens. Hope this helps.

My biggest problem is figuring out how much clay to use. I either make it way too big or way to small. How do you decide how much clay to use?
What got you started in polymer clay?
How was it starting your business and booking shows?
Do you have any advice for someone who's been doing clay for a few years and wants to start doing it as a full time job?

Hi! I will be answering your questions in a new video coming soon.
So glad to hear that you are doing better. My question is. Have you ever made a ornament that you could put a picture in?.
I’m happy you are feeling better. When will you be showing how to make magnets
Hi! Is there a particular place you like purchasing your clay from?
Also, have you ever made a grinch?.

Hi!! Just wondering what you use to write on the clay. Do you bake it first? Also do you put a coating of protection over it? Thank you
I did a video on writing. You must bake the clay first. It does not need a protective coating.

Hi Maria, I love watching your videos. I am new with ornaments and I have a question. What pen do you recommend to use for names?
Hi Maya! Thank you! Go to the Simply Ornaments homepage on RUclips and click on PLAYLISTS. Then click on TIPS. Under that category, I have a video on personalizing.
Hi
How do you determine pricing of an ornament?
Hi Maria, can I ask what size do you make most of your ornaments?
Most are about 2x3. I made a video showing how to size them and I can't find it on the channel.. I will post it again when I find it.
My question is have you ever had anyone complain about your ornaments or just a difficult customer? If so how do you handle it? I ask because i recently i had this happen for the first time and it really made me question myself about selling my ornaments. Thanks
