Its also interesting that some of the stories from this section of the 8th Doctor canon were left over stories from The Divergent Universe. Shows they didnt want certain elements to go to waste
My biggest problem with absolution is that they never actually delt with Charlie’s grief. Going on through the girl who never lived and the her adventures with the 6th doctor. And then in her own series. THEY DIDN’T FUCKING DEAL WITH IT. They even hint that they are going to bring up in patients zero and then they don’t. She just left the doctor and then it felt like she just forgot about him.
I just wanted to say thank you, since you're pretty much the reason I started getting into Big Finish. They should honestly give you a job promoting them.
It is so nice to see a video discussing these stories. They have a very special place in my memories as I listened to them when I was 13/14/15. It's also gratifying to see that I share many of your opinions
I just listened to: 'Scaredy Cat.' The entire time, I was just kind of waiting to be sucked in, but I kept getting distracted, and by the time it was over, I hadn't even felt like it had started yet.
Same here. A hope for me would be maybe either a boxset or separate releases for the lost stories or something with the original 3rd and 4th series of the divergent universe arc. It would be interesting to hear what the original versions of stories like Scaredy Cat would've been like
finally!!!!!!! Been waiting a while for this. By the way i just heard recently Chimes of Midnight and Seasons of Fear. you were right. Brilliant to perfect
The ending of Absolution shows the 8th Doctor being emotionally callous (cheerful so but still) which I believe is a coping mechanism. I think he trying to put on a brave face because if he doesn't he will go to pieces. Different Doctors have different reactions to companions leaving the TARDIS and the adventure life (which is more often the case) or dying during an adventure (which is more rare). I mean the Doctor still regretted the death of Katarina who was a very short term companion of the 1st Doctor, and I am sure the 5th Doctor regretted what happened to Adric who had been a companion for much longer. By this time the 8th Doctor realizes that dwelling on it is not going to bring back anyone he has lost, but unfortunately his ability to cope conflicts with Charley and understandably so.
IDK, I could never really get into Time Works. It felt very... dull. It's a shame, I really liked first few minutes and the premise, but it then just turned into noise for me. Love the music though *Edit* Revisted this several years since the first time and it holds up a lot better
Same, kind of like “The Stones of Venice.” In “Time Works” the TARDIS crew seemed to always be outside of what was going on and they never really got in on the action. Love the music immensely though! I want that soundtrack separate from the episode so bad.
I'm listening through the monthly range (next one's Circular Time) so I listened to Scaredy Cat about a week ago and good Christ. It is the ONLY story, no matter how bad any others have been, where I've fallen asleep. It wasn't engaging at all. To be fair, I was listening to it at 4 in the morning, so I was tired regardless. But other stories have managed to keep me awake.
I get horrific nightmares about Kill The Moon all the time. It was the one episode that made me stop watching or caring for Doctor Who for some time. I've only watched New Who again because of the Mummy and Flatline episodes which gave me a little bit of faith in the show again. Just hope that Jamie Matheson has good episodes in Series 9 and pray that his Series 8 stories weren't just a rare occurence that only happens when every planet in the universe align into a perfect line.
Yeah. Season 9 was horrible. Sorry bit of a let down, but Season 10 is one of the best seasons EVER in Doctor Who history! So at least we have that! (Let’s not talk about season 11)
Interesting unpopular opinion. Never heard the audio, but am intrigued by it. Here’s my own unpopular opinion: “Time Works was dull aside from the music and concept.”
Hi stu, I absolutely love your RUclips channel, and your thoughts on the 8th doctor audios in particular. I think you're too harsh on yourself though; the channel should really be called "he who critiques". You're open and honest that it's just your opinion, there's no sign of any trolling and you're funny and entertaining and the comments are well-observed. And I'm having issues with the current state of tv series doctor who so you're not alone. Keep up the good work. Eagerly awaiting the lucie miller, dark eyes and Mary Shelley audio reviews :)
My mini reviews for this set of Audios Terror Firma -Yep typical Dalek/Davros run around w/ some nice few twist, characters nice & tidy Scaredy Cat -yeh u can tell it was meant to be divergent & like Kinda -nothing really new Other Lives - Charley was brilliant in this story so much fun, bit of a runaround farce of a story Time Works -fantastic landscape and ideas -this is how messing with time should be Something Inside -again cool idea, bit convoluted and dragged out a bit Memory Lane -yes really great, fun twists and turns and great character moments too Absolution - yeh..nice idea but C'Rizz is really not in it at all nice ending like you said The Girl Who Never Was -accents were annoyin, good idea bit of a damp sqib
Heh... every time you pronounce "penchant", I think you're saying "pawn shop". "What? The clockwork robots have a pawn shop? I don't remember that bit..."
Something Inside was ruined for me by that god damn music. It’s the same boring 2 bars on repeat that ruins the mood and atmosphere of any semi-decent scene. The story also felt almost as bleak as The Last, and it took me 4 days to actually get through it
I did like Terror Firma, but I think I was expecting way more. It could just be my fault since I was spoiled a little before listening to it, but the ending was a little too happy for me. I mean yeah, a VERY important character dies and C'rizz goes a little batshit at the end, but that's kind of it. I can't listen to Lucie Miller/To the Death and feel as incredibly sad at the end without thinking (SPOILER), Wait, Samson's still alive and kicking isn't he? And Charley too? Idk I think Eight should've gotten waaaaaaaaaay more broken by the end of that story.
Do you think new who kinda ruins the history of the show, do you think it could be fixed, I know the writing is bad, I feel its more style over substance
Its also interesting that some of the stories from this section of the 8th Doctor canon were left over stories from The Divergent Universe. Shows they didnt want certain elements to go to waste
At least in scaredy Cat the planet wasn't an egg.

Memory Lane is one of my favourite Doctor Who stories of all time
Why?

As long as we get it I don't care
memory lane sounds awesome thanks for doing this !
hey I wanna a make a spiritual successor to classic who
Loved Timeworks and Memory Lane.
Extremely atmospheric.
I've been going through these one by one as I finish each story. The hard part is pausing when it gets to the next story I haven't seen.
Another excellent summary as always. Looking forward to your thoughts on the Lucie audios.
5:19 So Big Finish version of End of Days...
Just finished listening to Storm Warning, excellent, thanks for the recommendation. Next up, Neverland.
I just found you and I've been reallly enjoying your content. Good job!
good to have these back.
Rip video about Charley and the 6th Doctor
I am really curious about what the original version of Scaredy Cat set in the Divergent universe was like.
Same here. A hope for me would be maybe either a boxset or separate releases for the lost stories or something with the original 3rd and 4th series of the divergent universe arc. It would be interesting to hear what the original versions of stories like Scaredy Cat would've been like
My favorite big finish historical is the fifth doctor story "The Council of Nicaea"

by the way; will you review the 6th Doctor regeneration story anytime?
He already did, didn't he?
@@thatDamnAusWhoFan yes, probably in the interim between the original comment from 5 years ago and yours
@@thatDamnAusWhoFan When?
9:22 Did you get inspired by the film Brain Damage to draw the brain-worm?
2:28 I laughed too much at this. I don't know why.
Wait, in Memory Lane were there any icecream men dressed in Astronaut suits? I can’t seem to find the part of the story that has them
finally it's fucking here!
and not a moment to soon

This is a reason why Clara's death is something I don't like - Doctor is way too emotional about it. Somehow we are more desensitized than he is.

I don't understand what happened,
Didn't Davros turn 8 Billion people into Daleks?
Meris yeah he did
Unpopular opinion : Scaredy Cat is actually pretty good.
I liked it to its dark and not as bad as people say
