500km on bikes non-stop. The story of raising money for children.
This story takes place on July 6, 2022, when three friends (Piotr, Marcin, Zbyszek) decided to ride their bikes over 500 km in one go without sleeping to raise money for children (Foundation Fulfilling Dreams). We had no experience in organizing such rallies, and especially none of us had ever ridden such extreme distances in one go on a bike. Each of us had different equipment and was prepared differently because it was a somewhat spontaneous event that I had come up with 1.5 months earlier... so you could say that it was a throw in the deep end. The first hundred was completed at a good pace and in good spirits. In Krakow we got caught in the rain and it stayed and we continued on. Unfortunately, Marcin's leg injury reoccurred and his riding became more and more difficult. His tough nature did not allow him to give up, so we continued to ride together. Before Wietrzychowice, we were caught in the rain again and it turned out that the ferry on the Dunajec River was under renovation and out of service. We had to make a detour, but after about 5 km it turned out that there was another ferry crossing. From there, through Smęgorzów, we reached Szczucin. Unfortunately, for reasons as mentioned earlier, Marcin could no longer continue driving with us. Too bad :-(. Thanks for fighting!.
We arrived in Sandomierz around midnight. Here I had a crisis due to my body being severely cold. It was supposedly 12 degrees, but I felt like it was 6-8 degrees and I was shaking like jelly from the cold. Warm coffee and a hot dog didn't help much, so we decided to keep going and warm our muscles while driving. We assumed we would be driving all night anyway, so there was no whining. Driving towards Ożarów, when Zbychu was about 200 m in front of me, an oncoming truck almost hit me when it overtook a car entering the property. I jumped off the bike to the side of the road... My Guardian Angel was watching over me. In order to shorten the route, we went through forests, pits, sand and other difficult surfaces, so much so that we even had to walk the bikes. Near Bałtów, Zbychu had a crisis because he fell asleep while riding his bike. Yes, this 500 was excruciatingly difficult.
Somewhere near Pionki, when I hit 400 km, I was sure we would get there because physically everything was OK again. The lack of lemonade was really bothering me, and the saddle before Warsaw was already starting to burn. In addition, there was no bicycle path in front of the capital, coming from Piaseczno, and we had to somehow manage it while driving between cars. We arrived at the Palace of Culture and Science like winners, although no one was waiting with laurels. We raised some money for children and that's what counts. The odometer showed me 510.75 km
