Steep, no problem! Slow and steady wind the race. Well done on your climb and hike. Looks like perfect colder hiking temperatures for me as well. That is quite the rock wall. Almost like a mini great wall of China. Those views all around are beautiful and so worth the climb. Awesome hike. Take care and have a Merry Christmas!
It was chilly down below but that wind was cutting on the top and even with 5 layers on I had to keep moving, so was so cold. Really enjoyed the day mind and apart from the icy stone steps, a perfect way to spend a winters day. Happy Christmas and thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Real steep and icy and although the temperature was only -2C, so not that cold, the wind was baltic, real cutting, so I was not hanging around too long. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Alan this hike was something truly amazing! Scenery is something special, outstanding! Wind at the end of video was cherry on top! Just enough to show that it is the mountain and nature in general that sets the conditions and rules 👏👏
Yes it was, that wind was baltic, really cutting, so I had to keep moving all the time, even with 5 layers on. I still enjoyed the day mind, awesome fun and views. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Greetings Alan METALMAN my brother, you are the great Adventurer of great places that one does not imagine exist and are beautiful places. You will see that my respects always with your great videos.👊🤟🗺🏔⛰️🤟👍♠️♠️♠️
Hi Alan, Loved the video, My family and I did this walk yesterday (Sunday 30/06/24) but we carried on and did the circular route. Really enjoyed it all. thank you for all the great videos you bring us ..Jim
Nice one, it did look a fantastic circular route but when I did it, t it was bitter, so thought I would wait till we have warm, dry sunny weather to do the round myself - still waiting lol. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, very good of you and very much appreciated, cheers Alan
It sure did, especially as I was up at 05.00 and then found the heating was not working lol. Still, a great days hiking. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Somehow i missed this one Alan. Gorgeous day and hike, great views and yes, good thing you watched the icy conditions and always let ms metalmam know where you go. Great day. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it, as did I but I was pleased when I got back down those icy steps without mishap. It was a tad chilly when I set off -2C (28F) but when I got on the tops the wind was really blowing and it was bitter, my finger ends were dropping off. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
All three Des and that wind was baltic on the top so I had to keep moving but still a real good day out on the Fells. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Hello Alan. Such a great day for a hike. Maybe a little windy. Beautiful views of the mountains. They look like they go on for miles. Such breathtaking scenery all around. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.
Glad you enjoyed it and it was very windy indeed and man was it cold, that wind went right through me but still a great days hiking. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
Yes, it looked a bit nippy Alan. Wonderful views and a stunning Lake District blue sky. Those waterfalls looked cold too :) Nice walk Alan. Best wishes, Rob
Thanks very much for watching Rob and it was nappy indeed, that wind was cutting, which is why I kept moving all the time but a real enjoyable days hiking. Cheers Alan
Hi Alan, what a glorious day to take a hike amongst the splendid and stunning scenery. A great idea to give Mrs Metalman a copy of your route. I always wonder about the hazzards of hiking on your own. Great video - a joy to watch. Thanks for taking us along ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it and yes, there are so many places where you cannot get a phone signal, so if something does happen, it's a waiting game if nobody stumbles across you. Mrs Metalmans hates me going hiking alone, so I always have to leave her a map of exactly where I am going, reminds me of when I was a kid and had to let my parents know the same too lol. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and thank you so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Hi Alan it looks really stunning there but sounded soo cold ! The views all around were really lovely and the sound of water so beautiful. Didn't know you had an operation, hope you are doing ok now, unless it was a while ago. Haha there were a lot of steps on the never ending steps of doom 🤭 The colours this day were spectacular. Good idea to leave Mrs M a map when you go out and I liked seeing what you take to eat on a hike, chocolate bars and a banana so tasty and easy 🙂 Those waterfalls were spectacular, really enjoyed that sat in our warm house 😃👍~ Anna
Yes, it was the day after I came back from our Majorca holiday and although I was in and out on the same day, I was told no hiking for 6 weeks, which was awful as I missed so much good weather. The weather here was perfect for hiking, cold and crisp but man that wind was baltic, even with 5 layers on. Still, a real good day out one I really enjoyed. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
Beautiful hike.So wonderful to get out on a day like this.We dont have many days with sunshine here in Denmark in winter. Cant remember when the sun visit us last time😢 Have a great week ahead 😊😊😊
Thanks very much for watching and I sure miss the sun at this time of the year. It may not offer much warmth but it is still so nice to see it's reassuring smile, cheers Alan
As always this is a well made video of you. Looks like a great hike. The landscape and nature are fantastic. Awesome views. I really enjoyed watching. Many greetings 😀
Glad you enjoyed it and real good of you to stop by. A real cold day, so a day that you needed to keep moving all the time and I sure did that. Cheers Alan
Yes, another one in the bag and what a steep pull that was 😳. Still a great days hiking, despite the cold and bitting wind. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Another exciting hike with you. I can imagine how cold it was in the morning and how slippery and difficult it was to climb, but it was worth it. When someone asks me why I struggle to climb a mountain. It is a little more difficult to explain to those who do not hike. What we see from the top is difficult to describe because it has to be experienced. Nice video Alan and Happy Holidays. Sretana and Zac. 🤗😁👍
Thanks for watching and it was very icy on those stone steps so I was pleased to get back down without mishap but what a great days hiking, I loved it, cheers Alan
Those steep icy steps were lethal, so real pleased I got down in one piece. It was only -2C but man that wind was baltic and so strong at the top, my finger ends were dropping off lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Looking a little on the cool side and can even tell by the light in the sky. "Steps of Doom!" LOL Sometimes I wonder why steps like that are even built on a trail...easier without them for me most times. Gotta love those views over your shoulder! Indeed, that bed feels pretty good at 5 a.m. when I hear Otis hitting the floor to get out and take care of business. Am always amazed by those stone walls. Want to make sure I catch some of them when I eventually make a trip over. Such a fantastic view for sure! Take good care and have yourself a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2024!! Bruce and Otis
merry Christmas to you both as well and I know what you mean with those stone steps, they have been put in to protect the Fell but when they are wet of icy, they are absolutely lethal to walk on. Always get a comment about the dry stone walling from across the pond, I guess yuo guys do not have that over there. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
They were a mare, steep, which is not a major problem but the ice on them were and I have forgotten my micro spikes as well, so I to take it real easy. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
Great video Alan but ooooo I'm feeling that cold wind. It's a real haul up but worth it for those fabulous views ... often the case ... best views from the smaller fells & you got great light on this day. I can well recommend the walk through Skelghyll/Jenkins wood to Troutback ... lovely varied route and an ice cream from the village shop, though maybe that's not your thing, and I agree definitely not for this day 😨🤣 Look forward to seeing more videos from your latest trip ... have fun and all th best to you & your family for the festive season 😊
Thanks very much Christine and a Very Happy Christmas to you too! I do intend to do this walk again one day but do the full loop to include Troutbeck as well, as it does look a very good route indeed. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
Longest and steepest half mile of my life lol and that wind was baltic too. Still, a real good days hiking and much better than todays wet and windy weather. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
A frosty cold day Alan, quite an adventure! Those steps can be quite challenging, plus the ups and downs, whew. I'm glad to hear you were wearing several layers, since I do too! lol! It's so true, sometimes you can't really stop and enjoy the views because of the wind, brrr. Even so, nice filming... we got to see the beautiful area while you were climbing! Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to you and your family!! Cheers, Jen
A Very Merry Christmas to you both too Jen and yes, a short climb up but very steep made even worse with the covering of ice and me forgetting my micro spikes. Still, nothing (even that biting wind) was going to stop me from having a great days hiking. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
0:55 That look's amazing ...... 1:25 Look's beautiful but Chilly ....... 1:50 Is it raining? ....... 3:30 Let's go ....... 4:15 That look's incredible ...... 4:45 WOW ....... 5:10 Like a painting ....... 8:15 I can HEAR and FEEL that wind ....... 9:35 I can believe how icy it is ...... 10:32 BANANA !!!!!! .... 12:30 Lets NOT go swimming.
Not a chance of swimming on that day lol, it was baltic and that wind was bitter. Still a great days hiking and I sure needed the energy from that banana lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
How much!? The cheek. Mind you it’s hard to beat the Lakes this time of the year. Gosh that is steep! Cracking view of Windermere! Wonderful 360° from the summit stones. Very wise leaving your route.great provisions. Very true about sarnies! 😂 it did look icy. Love those falls, visited them on one of my first trips to the lakes with Jill 👍
Most expensive pee ever! I never paid it mind 😉 and yes, only half a mile to the top but what a steep up that was and felt never ending too. A cold day made even more so by the wind, which was baltic and very strong on the tops but still a great days hiking. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Great video Alan love that walk done it many times while staying in Ambleside the views are stunning and you showed them superbly only every went to Baystones or as we thought Wansfell once just wasn’t worth the effort. Doing the circular walk via Troutbeck makes for a great days walk. 👍👍
I am really looking forward to doing this again but doing the full loop via Troutbeck but it will need to be a heck of a lot warmer lol. Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
Hey Alan 😊 looked cold but glad it was a sunny blue sky day unlike when I done this one. The positive about the frost and ice is I bet the section from wansfell to baystones wasn’t boggy like when I was there. Great video 😊
Oh yes I remember your video well and it was nice and firm underfoot between the two summits when I did it but I had the ice instead of the mud, unsure which was worse lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hey Alan, great video mate as usual and really good to see you doing another film in the lakes. Its is quite a steep climb up there which I think tricks a few people as it is a smaller fell but it is a pull up as you say. Mind you, worse with the ice liked you experienced, not surprised you didn't film on the way down, best to be safe. As with alot of small fells, the views are stunning as you showed, beautiful. Can't believe you had a lay in and got there for 9am, unusual for you LOL. Loved it as usual, take care.
It was hard getting out of bed ay 05.00 on a real cold morning and the heating had gone off too lol. Great days hiking and yes that was some pull up there, not that far but really steep. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Perfect conditions (apart from the wind of course). The views were stunning all round especially the frosty ground contrasting with the warm light. Excellent and detailed guide. Hope you have an excellent week and more importantly a very merry Xmas. Festive cheers from barnyz
Glad you enjoyed it and a Very Happy Christmas to you too. First walk up there and really enjoyed it but man that wind was baltic, nice to get into a nice warm café in Ambleside afterwards. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, It's a great hike. I liked the tips in this one. I do the same about leaving a map for my Mrs like you do yours. Liked the look at your lunch, too. I agree with smushed sandwiches. If I'm taking sandwiches, I pack them on the firm Ciabatta bun type of bread that doesn't squish as much. Several icy spots up there, too. Merry Christmas if we don't see you on another one before Christmas.
Glad you enjoyed it and a Very Merry Christmas to you all too. Mrs Metalmans hates me going hiking alone, so I always have to leave her a map of exactly where I am going, reminds me of when I was a kid and had to let my parents know the same too lol. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Dam steep on the way up and so Icey on the path as well but still a great day to be out, the views were amazing but one of those days you had to keep constantly moving. Real nice of you to watch and I hope you are making good progress on your recovery, take care, cheers Alan
Well done, Alan on getting up and down safely in those icy conditions. I think it's one of those fells that has a lot at the top to explore. We did the loop via Nanny Lane and that was a real good hike, with a coffee shop stop in the middle. Andrea was very curious about what you bring to eat on a hike and made me wind the video back! She's a bit of a sandwich expert so she might have to re-educate you one day!! I'm with you on the chocolate etc, but we do like hot coffee with us too. I could see both the Fairfield and Kentmere Horseshoes from your views, great memories indeed. I've hung up my boots for the year, will try and get active again in January. Happy Christmas to you and Linda and all the family, regards, Ashley and Andrea.
Yes I fully watched your video of this before I did the walk, very good iot was too and I initially had intended to do the full loop but that wind was baltic, so thought better of it. I do like a nice sandwich but not when it has been stuck in my bag all day lol. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Happy Christmas to you both, cheers Alan
Loved this!! What a day you had for it Alan. We did that one (or those two) from the Kirkstone Pass. I remember that wall that just went on for ever, and so many ups and downs!! Knackering! 😃 A lot of ice there mate, and the steps of doom must have felt a bit dicey! Anyway, another great hike - interesting to see what you take and know what you mean about soggie sarnies😃 Hope you, Mrs Metalman and the family have a brilliant Christmas
Thanks very much for watching and the same right back to you both as well. Real good days hiking, a dam cold day but a good day none the less, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, one of them winter days that look perfect but the wind is so biting, thankfully hiking up hill just about keeps you warm, never been to them waterfalls so nice to see them, wishing you and your family a merry Christmas and a happy new year cheers nigel
Thanks Nigel and a Very Merry Christmas to you all too. The waterfalls are a real nice little walk from Ambleside and been a few times but the first time up to Wansfell Pike for me though. It was not that cold temperature wise but that wind was cutting, my finger ends were dropping off. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Great vid Alan, looked like a lovely morning for it. Great to see you back in the Lakes ! We’re hoping to get over for a few hikes between Christmas and New year really missing it. Hope you and Mrs Metal man and the rest of your family have a fantastic Christmas ❤
Thanks very much and the same right back you you all too. Just back a day early from 4 days in the lakes, due to the bad weather but we still had a great time away with the family. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
That looks fantastic. Was going to do it last month but my previous days hike finished me off. I have just plotted the route you have done in case there is good weather when I am up in the Lakes on 27th December. For a low type fell there looks some fantastic views Glad to see you up and about.
Sounds great and fingers crossed you get some great weather too. Only a half mile to the top but man was it a steep half mile, good way to work off any Christmas pounds you may have put on and I would imagine the walk between both the summits would be a bit boggy on a wet day, nice and firm when I did it die to the frost and ice. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Yes it was, I am sure of it lol! Long half mile but that ice on the steps were real sketchy mind, dam pleased when I got back down in one piece lol. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
Stay safe Alan so you don't slip... Lovely views and wonderful water falls. Do you hike even if it should be snow? Have a fabulous Sunday evening and cheers 💞
I love to hike in the snow but when we had snow for a few days at the beginning of the month, I could not as our grandson was stopping with us and as he is only 3 years old, he was too young to come with me. Thanks very much for watching, take care, cheers Alan
looked a tough way up that.. I went up via Kirkstone pass side was much more gradual.. That summit cairn has definitely grown since march, must have been quite popular int summer :)
Yes I have had a few people saying they started it from the Kirkstone Pass, so I will look at that when I do it again in the future. Thanks so much for watching, cheers Alan
Beautiful views, beautiful water falls, beautiful cold day. Icy steps not so beautiful. Glad you made it safely down. Who built that magnificent rock wall? What did you do during your work life? Thankful you’re getting to enjoy life to the fullest. Thanks for sharing the video. Merry Christmas from the United States.
I will add my working life to my list of questions and its the local famers who maintain the dry stone walls, as a marker of their land and to keep their livestock in. Those stone steps were not only steep but covered with ice so I was real pleased to get down in one piece was I not. Thanks very much for watching and a Very Merry Christmas to you to, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, brilliant video as always mate. I’ve got Wansfell to do. I’ve got the route planned doing the circular down nanny lane and in to Troutbeck. It’s going to be one of my winter walks at some point. All the best mate, and a merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and Mrs Metalman 😀⛰🥾🎄🎅🏻
That was my initial plan Dave but as I got over later than I anticipated and it was real icy, I decided to cut it short. Still, a very enjoyable days hiking. Thanks very much for watching and a very Merry Christmas to you too, cheers Alan
Beautiful cold winters day walk Alan with some amazing views. I’ve put this as a to do route when I next return to the Lakes. Great Q&A hope we have more of them. One final comment, are you sponsored by Rab? Cheers Mike 👍
Haha, I wish and should be the amount of brass I spend on their gear. It is one steep half a mile up from the start of the up from the lane but super views for a Fell that is not that big. Finger crossed you get the same albeit warmer weather I got. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hiya mate. Looked like hard work getting up the steps of doom, most definitely worth it though for them views you got, Seem quite a distance between the two summits to I wouldn’t bother looking just to gain an extra 2 inches although the mrs days I good do with it …. Not sure what she means. Oh it was a great day with horrendous day wasn’t it, I think that was the first time we went out together … proper good day still I’m the same if I’m hiking a bit of chocolate and plenty of water, not forgetting the bacon butty on the way in lol Great video mate, hope you’re having a good time away with the family, catch up soon 🤜🤛⛰️
Thanks very much for watching Al and funny enough I was out with my son yesterday in the exact same weather we had when we first met up, thankfully it was only an hour round trip but we were both soaked to the skin lol, cheers Alan, cheers Alan

Wow, that is one steep climb! The ice on the steps is definitely dangerous! Man, this looks like a cold 🥶 one. Nice waterfalls at the end!
Real steep and icy and although the temperature was only -2C, so not that cold, the wind was baltic, real cutting, so I was not hanging around too long. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Really loved the waterfall! Wow those steps are slick! At UPS they used to tell us to "Walk like a penguin" LOL
I felt like one trying to walk on that ice lol. A good days hiking, cold, dam cold but still so good. Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
Greetings Alan METALMAN my brother, you are the great Adventurer of great places that one does not imagine exist and are beautiful places. You will see that my respects always with your great videos.👊🤟🗺🏔⛰️🤟👍♠️♠️♠️

Hi Alan, can’t beat a fresh winters walk. Loving those blue skies. Makes it all worth while 😊
It sure did, especially as I was up at 05.00 and then found the heating was not working lol. Still, a great days hiking. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Very cold day! But gorgeous!
Yes it was! It was the wind that was cutting, so I kept on the move all day. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

Great video and a lovely day apart from the cold!
I remember those steps well too😂!!

Just finishing Alan with 5 full views all the best Mark
Happy New Year Mark and just finished watching one of your excellent 5 video playlists, cheers Alan
The view's are amazing Alan and the path definitely looked slippery and steep going up the top. The weather is perfect if not freezing cold
Those steep icy steps were lethal, so real pleased I got down in one piece. It was only -2C but man that wind was baltic and so strong at the top, my finger ends were dropping off lol. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan

How much!?
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉멋져요
Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
amazing footage my friend 👍
Thank you John, real n ice of you to stop by. Cheers Alan
I have camped up there... nearly lost my tent cos I didn't peg it down lol
Amazing place!
Dam steep on the way up and so Icey on the path as well but still a great day to be out, the views were amazing but one of those days you had to keep constantly moving. Real nice of you to watch and I hope you are making good progress on your recovery, take care, cheers Alan
Keep going allan mate 👍
Thanks Chris, I always intend to do so, appreciate you stopping by, cheers Alan
Knackering! 😃
A lot of ice there mate, and the steps of doom must have felt a bit dicey!
Anyway, another great hike - interesting to see what you take and know what you mean about soggie sarnies😃
Hope you, Mrs Metalman and the family have a brilliant Christmas
For a low type fell there looks some fantastic views
Glad to see you up and about.
Thanks so much for stopping by, cheers Alan
awesome upload 👍🙏💯
Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, very much appreciated, cheers Alan
Looks lovely weather, nice and frosty. It made for some nice footage. Was that first half mile vertical 😂.
Another great video Alan .my Question is ,what is your favourite Wainwright thusfar.👍
Good question and one I have added to my list so will answer it eventually. Thanks very much for watching, cheers Alan
Hiya mate. Looked like hard work getting up the steps of doom, most definitely worth it though for them views you got,
Seem quite a distance between the two summits to
I wouldn’t bother looking just to gain an extra 2 inches although the mrs days I good do with it …. Not sure what she means.
Oh it was a great day with horrendous day wasn’t it, I think that was the first time we went out together … proper good day still
I’m the same if I’m hiking a bit of chocolate and plenty of water, not forgetting the bacon butty on the way in lol
Great video mate, hope you’re having a good time away with the family, catch up soon 🤜🤛⛰️
Thanks very much for watching Al and funny enough I was out with my son yesterday in the exact same weather we had when we first met up, thankfully it was only an hour round trip but we were both soaked to the skin lol, cheers Alan, cheers Alan
@@AlanMETALMAN hopefully you warmed up with a nice pint afterwards
@@54DegreesNorth - I did :o)
Good Sunday Morning Alan Brother !!! 🤗
Man what beautiful blue skies there unless you got a filter going that makes them so beautiful. But either way, I sure enjoy the view and sights 🤩
You are a machine Alan woooo ! 💪🏻
Boy them Stone steps 😰
Good looking energy food supply

Oh cold..but very nice winter hike! ;-) Take care...
Thanks, you too! Not too bad on the ground but once I got on the tops the wind was cutting, thanks for stopping by, cheers Alan
