i think this video was very helpful. I personally had a rather unpleasant argument with my mother several years ago by now that basically completely stole any enjoyment that I had previously had with sewing, and so now anytime I try to sew or even think about trying to sew, that emotional trauma - she doesn't understand this at all, but emotional trauma is a real thing. it's just a nightmare. But just before watching your video, I had watched a previous video in which someone said something along the lines of "everybody has self doubt" and everybody compares themselves to everybody else and, the title of the video is "everybody sucks at sewing." So I think I just need to be more kind to myself and just not let people upset me the way that I have in the past. This same person who had this video also has a video explaining that she wore 18th century clothing every day for five years; I think that I would like to try doing something similar, not as a challenge type of thing but just for fun. Just for me. But first I need to start actually making the garments. That's the tricky part, especially because sewing, after that argument with my mother, feels like a dreadful chore. Is there any way around that? Does anyone have any recommendations that could maybe help here?
Even experienced sewers make mistakes. I actually have an example of said mistakes in a darling 1950s era dress. In that era, almost every woman knew how to sew. It was an essential life skill. As for the trauma, I highly recommend a therapist. They can help you work through it so you can enjoy sewing again. It's affecting something you once enjoyed. There is no shame in having a therapist!
I've never seen a bustle pad made like that, it's so much simpler than other ones i've seen. Thank you, very informative.
