First Solo Backpacking Trip - Los Padres National Forest

- This is my first ever solo overnight backpacking trip. This is the North Fork Matilija Trailhead in Los Padres National Forest. I didn't want to do too many miles on this trip and I ended up doing about 4 miles to get to the Middle Matilija Campground. It was an easy hike but the stream crossings were somewhat difficult and I got my feet soaking wet several times. But, overall it was a pleasant experience and I will be back someday.

Subbed. Thanks for reminding me of the times I've had in this Forest. I've been meaning to go back there. I hope the fire didn't get to it. Last time I was here, was in 2008. We parked at Thorn Meadows and hiked into Cedar camp and used it as a base. I brought home a nice Forkie that year. Went back a couple weeks later and stayed the night at Half Moon the first night, and just south of fishbowl trailhead by the big white Boulder right before you cross the river in the road the second. Took my friend Brian from high school on that trip. We had a blast. Anyways, thanks again for taking me along. PC&W.
Unfortunately, from the fire maps I have seen, I think Matilija Canyon got burned up in the Thomas Fire. I might head back there when they allow access to the forest again to check out the damage. Probably won't be camping there in a while; I've camped in a recent burn area before and carbon gets all over the tent and everything else.
Cedar Creek Camp, Fishbowls, and Half Moon are in great condition. Thorn Meadows is closed at the moment. Cheers!
