For those who don't know, Toy Caldwell, who wrote and sang this, was a Marine. Served in Vietnam and wounded. This HAS to be my favorite song, ever. Semper Fi Toy!
Our Band Boogie Chilln's with Tommy Redd, opened for TCB. "Toy Caldwell Band " in Raleigh NC. We all took a drink of whiskey with him right out of a half gallon bottle he had setting in his front seat when he drove up behind Venue. Tommy already new him. He introduced us to Toy. He shook our hands told a few road stories. Went on in to perform. Came out after show. We all took another drink of whiskey with him. He drove off in his Cadillac. He was a very genuine person. Meeting him was a highpoint of my life. Sadly he passed away a few weeks later. RIP Toy
Thank you for the story sir. Of all people, I KNOW many go before they get a full life. If it were up to me it would not happen l, but only God knows why. I intend to ask when I pass on though. SF
Absolutely love this song MTB is one of the greatest southern rock bands ever At 68 years old, I have to find this on RUclips about every 6 months and listen to it again
Back in 74, heading to swim practice, Elton John and Marshall Tucker playing on the car radio. Played over and over in my head while swimming laps. Those were the days of vanity, and youth.
Great song with relevant painful memories, but it was still great even during the pain. Never knew how they got their name. Eagles and MT were my wheelhouse.
This is easily one of the best songs ever written, an hymn to personal freedom, sanity and self realization. I'm not even American, but this song speaks to me on such a personal level

This ole cowboy has been a fan of MTB since their beginning. Back when a song lasted way more than 3 minutes.
