  • In this FULL in-depth guide, I will teach you how to make a Lego costume out of cardboard and other materials. More specifically I will show you how to make Benny the Spaceman from the original Lego Movie.
    Originally I released these in separate videos one video for each segment, but several years later, I decided to put them all together in one long video.

    Lego Costume Materials Needed:
    Helmet
    -1 12" half ball styrofoam: found here on Amazon - amzn.to/1UKMvSO (or at Michaels)
    -6 12-inch styrofoam discs (made these from styrofoam sheets)
    -Drywall joint compound (home depot)
    -mod podge: found here on Amazon - amzn.to/1UKMUod (or at Walmart)
    -1 can of True Blue Gloss paint (Walmart)
    -1 can of acrylic crystal clear paint (Walmart) (don't need the whole can)
    -1 section of a 10inch diameter concrete form tube (for face insert) found at Home Depot
    -some kind of paint software, or compositing software, or good artistic skills for the face. I made the faces and then had them printed on photo paper at Staples.
    -Hot glue
    Body
    -1 cardboard box
    -Mod Podge: amzn.to/1RBBTil
    -Paper strips
    -Hot glue
    -True Blue Gloss spray paint
    -Acrylic Crystal Clear spray paint
    Legs
    -1 cardboard box
    -hot glue

    -1 can of true blue gloss spray paint
    -part of a can of acrylic crystal clear spray paint
    Hands
    -Cardboard
    -Plastic Cylinder
    -Mod Podge: amzn.to/1RBBTil
    -Hot Glue
    -part of a can of True Blue Gloss spray paint
    -part of a can of Acrylic crystal clear spray paint
    -cardboard mailer tube (Staples)
    Arms
    - 2 Mailer tubes (I used 4-inch diameter mailer tubes because those fit around my arm)
    - 1 sewing kit
    - Fabric (color to match your costume) You need enough fabric to wrap around both sets of arms. If I remember right, I only needed 1 or 2 yards.
    JetPack/Oxygen Tank
    -1 - 8" diameter Concrete Form Tube. Depending on how long you make - -the tanks you may need 2.
    -Cardboard
    -Styrofoam
    -Utility Knife or Scissors
    -a couple of bolts and nuts
    -Mod Podge
    -Hot Glue Gun/Hot glue
    -Blue Gloss Spray Paint
    -Clear Coat Spray Paint
