This whole piece feels like Kyo s inner thoughts and feelings. The cello part is the part of him that blames and hates himself, the one that says that he doesn't deserve Tohru and the one that wants to convince him that he doesn't love her. But at 0:35 is when all this thoughts are too much and lets go of them finally admiting that he truly loves Tohru with all his heart.
But he isn't fully accepting this kind of feelings because he still thinks lowly of himself.
That's why this part really sounds like defeat, but a defeat in which the fight is not over, is just a step closer to the finish line.

This is when Kyo realises for the first time that he is in love with her and decides that he would not involve her anymore (He desperately feels the need to protect her). He decides to accept the fate that was already decided for him, his confinement while Akito tells him to do so.
And also 2x7. Yuki rememberes her childhood and bad things about Akito, then he sees Kyo and Tohru together. Also if I'm not wrong Haru says this is an ordeal when Yuki sees them together
