Awesome. Thanks very much, I was having issue with this knight to B5 move and didn't realize the extreme difference between waiting that extra move to go c5. Very helpful...

I found this video extremely helpful. I've taken up the French as my main defense after trying out the Sicilian and discovering it wasn't for me. Your video gave me a deeper understanding I'm grateful for.

Very instructive video! Been playing the Classical more than the Winawer with Black ever since watching this.

Hello SCG. Excellent series on how to play the French. Will you please do a video on the Steinitz variation? Thank you.

Thank you for making these videos! I have enjoyed every one and have learned a lot. I would be interested to hear about your favorite opening systems with White.

GREAT video, loved the dialogue actually, thanks for posting man. I needed a lot of work on the French Defense for Black.

I had a Russian Master that showed me the French and taught me to be very patient with every position! With black the light square bishop is always the problem and I like how eloquently it was traded with tempo and... Pow chakalak the Knight hits the outpost on e4! Beautiful and Magnificent :-)

Like or Dislike: Like. Recently I lost an OTB game where my opponent prepped the Classical Variation against my French. I knew the theory up until the bishop exchange, but he outplayed me from then on. The computer evaluation gives White the lead after the bishop exchange, so this video is restoring my faith in the Classical Variation.

Continued and we all know the reality of stronger play. I do see the value in these types of videos. I would however love to see a 60+ or 70+ move games where each side plays nearly with out inaccuracies, mistakes or blunders. Thank You

yes, and the h6-c1 diagonal looks off course extremely dangerous for white at the moment. The queen could always give a highly tactical check there whenever the knight is removed from f3, the pawn on f4 is no longer there and the black queen starts pissing in her pants and looking for new squares. I would say the king is worse off at b1 because there the rook could get a possible half open file.

Thank you for this instructional video. I do appreciate your time and help. I do however want to make a suggestion. I would like to see a game with this variation where black plays the better or best moves as a response. The trouble with a lot of chess videos is it works out so well for the chosen side, perhaps only when the opponent makes several critical mistakes. You can not show every possibility referring to weak players questions, but games like these the opponent seems to roll over.

It´s a fine lesson. Like your stile of talking. But I putted the game into some opening explorer and the game by Akobian didn´t come up.

After 17. Nxd4, how much of a threat is Nc6 attacking the queen? Stockfish evaluates that as white's strongest move instead of gobbling the bishop.

I don't see the point of white playing his king to g1 at 15:19 Can't he play a more productive move? You say he would do it not to be vulnerable for checks but I don't see how those checks would be a threat.

Fischer and Kasparov didn't like the French!

Because Fisher and Kasparov were both notorious attacking players. The french is strategic and positional. It didn't fit their style.
