This is a tv special on the original Star Wars trilogy from the 90s. It aired on Fox. There are also some cool Star Wars Taco Bell commercials on here.
I remember how mesmerized I was as I listened to my classmates at school tell the mystical tales about the fantastic movie Star Wars. I, 8 years of age, simply could not grasp all the wonderous things they were trying to describe to me and the other kids in class. I had to wait months until the movie finally reached the theater in our little rural town. -- The line to get in went down the street and around the corner. I stood in the hot sun forever, so excited to finally be able to witness for myself what I had heard so much of. Once the film began I realized it was well worth the wait! It was breath taking even in our small theater without the highest quality sound system. Still love it to this day! :-)
Thank you so much for uploading this. I don't agree with all of the changes made, but that sense of 90's Star Wars re-release nostalgia is wonderful to revisit. :D
I don't miss everything about the 90's, but specials like these put a smile on my face. Until 1999, I think the 90's was an amazing time for Star Wars fans.
I know the feeling. The excitement through out the 1990's after the release of the novel Heir to the Empire in 1991 and the announcement of a new prequel trilogy. It was like that childlike magical feeling leading up to Christmas. The faith and confidence we had in George Lucas of being this great wizard of magical storyteller. Then only to be so disappointed and heartbroken in 1999 when episode 1 hit the screen. I've heard people describe their disappointment has a kind of betrayal.
At least we got Boba Fett's revival and continued adventures, X-Wing, TIE-Fighter, Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, Super Star Wars, Trilogy Arcade, the Magic of Myth Exhibit at the Air and Space Museum, and some of the few good things in the Special Editions.
Ah those games were great. I love it that now we have two amazing stories that tell us how the rebels got the plans to the Death Star. _Rogue One_ was amazing...
I just completed DF I earlier today haha, DF II has been with me all my life but I only recently got the original. And I concur Rogue One is great, can't wait for it to be out on Bluray
Whenever I want to make myself sad, I think about the fact that I'm the last generation that got to see Star Wars before they started really fucking it all up. Some four or so generations of kids got to see it, and I was in that last wave.
When did you think they started to drop the ball? When they started making the prequels? I am just curious. Personally, I think it's very possible to enjoy the best of the older Star Wars entries now. Just because a lot of fluff has been added to the universe doesn't ruin the stuff that was already made, or mean that kids have to watch the "lesser entries". And if they do, they can still judge the older stuff on its own merits. The special edition changes were regrettable, but mostly jarring to those who grew up on the original versions. Their flaws still don't take away from the story as a whole (at least I don't think so), coming from someone who was seven when they came out and only ever knew that version of the story when I was a kid). Star Wars, even the older movies, were cheesy even then to me...something seemed "off" about the dialogue, and the acting (especially in Return of the Jedi). But the imagination, adventure, and just plain mythic thrust of the series comes off just as well now to fresh eyes as it always did.
Yup. I didn't see the original originals till I was 18 or so. I agree the original versions are still better, but the story related changes just weren't severe enough to change my impression of the movie much. Greedo shooting at Han (the only change I can sorta see mattering) looked silly, but Han knew he was going to shoot in both versions if he had the chance, and honestly, the casual way he walks out of the bar had the same effect on me as a kid that older fans describe the original version having. You still know he's an unfazed kinda guy...willing to kill and means business.
Jera Wolfe Nope, there were kids in the late 70's, the entirety of the 80's, and early 90's that all knew Star Wars in its more or less original state. Unless you define generation fairly narrowly, there was definitely more than one.
The special edition of Star Wars episode 4-6 was special at the time in theaters again since it's debut from Wednesday May 25th, 1977 and Wednesday May 25th, 1983 and the newer trilogy from 1999-2005 and now the newest trilogy is a disappointment too bad for that oh well thanks peace and blessings to you all thanks.
I remember watching this on television in early 1997 & I loving it. Ii was nice seeing it again. I love watching anything that is exclusive to the original trilogy. I can remember when I saw this and being so excited at the end when it was mentioned that George Lucas was promising to continue the saga with a prequel trilogy and then the words episode 1, 2 & 3 crawled up the screen in the background. But then ultimately came the huge disappointment that 99.9% of the huge generation of original Star Wars fans felt when the prequels finally came out.
No, there was a considerable portion of the original Star Wars fans that loved the prequels when they came out, and then another considerable portion of the original Star Wars fans that came to love the prequels, once they saw how bad the Star Wars sequels were.
I think we don't give the special edition enough credit. Yes some of the things like the music number in Jedi, the Jabba scene and Luke's scream. But this was George's movie. And Spielberg fell into this to. You can't stop the digital revolution
Yeah, but Spielberg saw the backlash after he tried to edit ET with digital additions and tried to correct it by making both versions available on the next DVD release. George Lucas is so persistent that his special editions are the real versions that he has made an effort to phase out the original theatrical ones entirely, making them unavailable commercially since 1997 (save for a shitty, non-anomorphic Laser Disk transfer on the 2006 DVD). He even refused to give the library of congress an original copy of Star Wars when it was added into the National Film Registry, instead he try to submit the 97 version (which was denied because it was completely against the rules of the legislation).
@@indeans48 Technically the Special Editions ARE the real versions, because they are essentially the directors cuts. I still agree that the theatrical cuts should be released in high quality.
SHOOTTHAFAIR1 I saw a fragment of an ad for a King of the Hill episode which aired February 9, 1997, so this special aired sometime shortly before that date.
Oh, I'll watch every movie. I was born in 1977, and a big fan my whole life. We're finishing this. Like marriage, it's all the good and all the bad. But dayam, I'm not exactly excited about it right now. I'm giving them the room to change that. I'll watch the movie. It will be good, or it will not be bad. There is no 'meh.'
What started as a film people began referring it as a rip-off of Star Trek (distributed by 20th Century Fox) became a huge successful phenomenon that inspired generations and generations since 1977 and it changes the way that we look at movies.
Was there not another SW Special a few years later with what's his name....something "_Samuel_" Jackson..the jedi with the purple sabre. I have this on VHS but it's buried in a vault somewhere...lol ! I remember the overselling of Eps. ! Phantom Menace on tv..i think that turned off many people. The better commercials were from the 80's SW.
Sorry folks but Star Wars is the true history of Earth from the days of Noah before the great flood. Its about Marduk/Osirus(Darth Vador) taking over the Earth and Set(Luke Skywalker) trying make right for the evil his father created.
Soooo many classic 1980s SciFi films would have never been made without Star Wars in 1977.
Wrong. Correlation does not equal causation.
Ahhh...the '90s. What a wonderful time. :-)
I miss the 90s

Hearing Patrick Stewart talk about Star Wars is cool. :{J
I like that leg workout commercial lmao.
That was hilarious! Either the joys of VHS tape recording or possibly the person posting the video seeing if we're still awake? ha ha
I remember watching this special as a kid.
And the commercials brought back some nostalgia too. :{J
Hahaha
I know, right?!?
🎼"We're gonna wash that gray right outta your hair!"🎶

This was shown on February 6, 1997
THANKS!!!
(I LOVE getting bonus, "fun facts," with my ASMR!!!) 👍
32:44 to 32:52 for the original mix of the THX Cimarron trailer.
If only they didn't cut the second half, THX fans would have the perfect remake traiker
Vader...
...dispensing with the pleasantries since 1977.
Haha this is recorded over someone's mom's "Thigh Sweep" aerobics VHS tape lol that's awesome 😂 👍

Truest words are that watching Annikin's fall would be painful. ...
We weren't prepared for his heartbreaking downfall.
Damn that baby in the Pepsi commercial at 2:07 is around 24 now..Hard to believe that SW was retro back in 95..Now 1995 is retro..
Wow, that's a trip back to the 90s!
Love the commercials haha
'It made community' unlike the latest films!

jprt1990 You're saying you grew up on the special edition of the original trilogy?

36:55 It's so dense every frame has so much going on.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
lol at thigh sweep cutting in on lucas,
Hahah! Then he pauses before getting back on topic.

Foreshadowing the prequel trilogy.
Actually the SEQUEL trilogy.

Lucas actually REMOVED Luke's scream in Empire. You won't hear it on the current DVDs.
@@indeans48 Technically the Special Editions ARE the real versions, because they are essentially the directors cuts.

I won't dampen your anticipation or excitement. I just wish I could share it.
Jera Wolfe Have you seen the second Force Awakens trailer? And I'd suggest checking out the Vanity Fair photo shoot before you give up completely.
Oh, I'll watch every movie.
I was born in 1977, and a big fan my whole life.

+Robinson Cruz
Who on Earth would call it a "Star Trek rip-off"? They have nothing in common, practically two different genres :P
Money well spent for Taco Bell. Its advertisement produces revenue years later due to the magic and the mystery of RUclips.
Or, the magic of the guy who records over his mom's aerobic workout VHS tape lol and uploads it to RUclips. 👍😂
There is no, "mystery."
"...well, as long as nobody's trying to stop that ship, or blast us!"
"Stop that ship! Blast them!"
😅
Because when you think Star Wars, you think Howie Long.
Haha
Right?!? 👍
REAL.
44:00 yo, this commercial has balls to call a sunfire a work of art
The deep note......ok
I like the HIV test commercial during a star wars special rofl
01:12 "The field of foreskin" Lol!
The Field Of Force Game. XD No Foreskin lol
That was a very depressing TV Special
Why?
Was there not another SW Special a few years later with what's his name....something "_Samuel_" Jackson..the jedi with the purple sabre.
I have this on VHS but it's buried in a vault somewhere...lol !
I remember the overselling of Eps. ! Phantom Menace on tv..i think that turned off many people. The better commercials were from the 80's SW.
Did they just mention the sequel trilogy at the end?
That thigh sveep though...
