I have never been a member of any Church so I do not know about this particular doctrine but here is what the word of God says. Repent and be baptized for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit Acts 2:38. Also, in Acts 10:44-46, while Peter was preaching to the Gentiles the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spake in tongues. No, they did not wait for 6 months or any specific period of time before they received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Similarly in Acts 19:5-6, they were baptized and then Paul laid his hands on them and they spake in tongues and prophesied too.

Those of us who are GOD's children believe what HIS WORD instructs, and choose to follow HIS WORD, although not always easy.
Yet, the Power of HIS finished work and RESURRECTION LIVES within our personal, Intimate, Loving Kind, Authentic Spiritual Relationship with HIM, our ongoing surrender to our LORD JESUS CHRIST. And we also have HIS HOLY SPIRIT, WHO leads, guides us in doing the will of our FATHER in Heaven!
In our relationship with our LORD JESUS CHRIST, we live in HIS Presence at all times, and because of this, we can repent immediately whenever we sin. When we are close to HIM, we don't sin intentionally, and when we do sin, we have true regret. We care about GOD's Heart and care about doing HIS will in our lives and works, and also about other people, and how others could be affected by our sins.
We can also do confession. And, if we are close to HIM, we communicate effectively, authentically, honestly with HIM, as we work continually with The HOLY SPIRIT.
Self-control is one of the nine Fruits of The HOLY SPIRIT. When the HOLY SPIRIT is in control, our emotions, although not to be ignored, and important to understand, do not rule us; for GOD is in control when we surrender to HIM!

I have never been a member of any Church so I do not know about this particular doctrine but here is what the word of God says. Repent and be baptized for the remission of your sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit Acts 2:38.
Also, in Acts 10:44-46, while Peter was preaching to the Gentiles the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spake in tongues.
No, they did not wait for 6 months or any specific period of time before they received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Similarly in Acts 19:5-6, they were baptized and then Paul laid his hands on them and they spake in tongues and prophesied too.

How do you forgive when the person keeps doing the same things to you? How do I just shut down my feelings and emotions and not "feel" the pain and rejection that continues? I am trying so hard but my mind and my heart don't wanna get on the same page. Please pray for me.
After you forgive, ask the Lord to start His healing process in your life. Isa 61 says that He binds up our wounds. May the Lord start His healing in your life
May the Holy Spirit show you how to deal with your situation. Forgiving does not mean continually take it.
Keep going to our Father in prayer with your request. Also, prayer coupled with fasting may help. You can bind the spirit of Unforgiveness, hurt and pain and command them to leave.
Forgiveness is a decision and not a feeling so decide to forgive and ask God to get rid of the hurt and pain. God is able. I know your plight.

I don't believe everyone has to speak in tongues or can even, that believe in Christ. I was baptised as a baby then Confirmed my faith at aged 11, where I Confirmed my faith in Christ. I have the Holy Spirit. Yet I cannot speak in tongues.
