Thank you so much Paul the timing of this video was heaven sent. I was just getting frustrated trying to draw a marble statue portrait. I got caught up wanting to copy other artists styles that I admired. I gave up tonight. But I’ll try again. I found that it’s most optimal to simply...draw like me. Everyone truly does have an artists handwriting.
That's the spirit, draw the statue the way you feel it should be done. It really is the only way to become an artist. You'll need to learn some techniques but apply them in your way. Cheers Paul
I don't know why I got so emotional listening to this video, maybe because I've already known most of what you're saying but never knew how to apply it, maybe because I appreciate people like you (and me) who tend to seek the very core of things. Or perhaps because you remind me so much of my photography teacher who also saw in the same eyes as yours, he passed away not long ago. I lack the guidance on how to apply all the things you said, I want to learn art from scratch, the very foundation of life and how things are int he universe in order to be able to envision it and refer to it while drawing.. I just don't know where to look or where to go or who to seek. I'll continue to look into your channel, I'll subscribe because this video was very beautiful. Thank you.
Coincidently, I have just been watching the film, 'Loving Vincent' an amazing film about Vincent van Gogh. I think what the film shows more than anything else is this. By all means subscribe to my channel and watch all my videos, but to understand life and everything around you, look inside yourself. What you have to say is unique, the way you envision it for others to see is unique. Trust your vision and you won't go to far wrong. Cheers Paul
Extremely helpful video ! Thank you for this wonderful video ....Beautiful presentation with a really good amount of example drawings by various artists from different times !
Paul, this video was exceptional. Your explanations were clear and points extremely thoughtful and concise. Thanks so much. Looking forward to the next video.
That's great, thanks. The next in the series will be on colour but it will be a few weeks before it's ready. If you subscribe (if you haven't already) RUclips should let you know when it's published. Cheers Paul
×2 I really want to became a VFX artist, but if I don't even know to draw well, how am I supposed to get to the top of my career? I'm just 15, and I also get very motivated by Paul 👑
Thanks very much, Paul for this tutorial! I don't know how to draw but I want to learn, because I like to draw the world that I love. Please continue, all your videos on RUclips are very helpful to me! Thanks again!
your video really inspires me because I get a lot of ideas from watching your drawing videos and I also like to draw and sketch as well as im get lots of ideas from this. As im drawing them I put it to practice I also feel motivated when drawing as well :) I wanted to be an artist as well

Thank you very much! I started to draw few months ago but, unfortunately, I found a video tutorial saying "any idiot can learn to draw", and from that point all my enthusiasm get down. Why to work to achieve something that "any idiot can"? I'll appreciate if you have some to say about this. Thank you!
First of all, l wouldn't dismiss the achievements of idiots,a lot of people would argue that one has achieved the top job in the world. But I would contend that, 'anyone can learn to draw', because it's a skill. It's just like driving, virtually everyone can learn to drive, some are much better than others, some have some ability to start with, but not every one can drive like Lewis Hamilton. It comes down to how much determination you have and not giving up, or letting your enthusiasm disappear, at the first hurdle. Paul
@@PaulPriestleyart Thank you very much. Contend means you are not agree with? I`m not a native english speaker, and the explanation I found is confuse.

@@gogubrad784 So by inference you are implying I should have said any 'expert' can learn to draw, then you would feel motivated? You have misinterpreted my comment, I am not implying you aim to become an idiot, I was merely implying that most people underestimate themselves and they should realise that anyone can draw, if they are prepared to put in the effort and not give up at the slightest obstacle or comment!
@@PaulPriestleyart Sorry, I think is a misunderstanding. That sentence with " any idiot.." is not yours, belong to another one, who is not teaching really how to draw, but give "advice".
Mr. Priestley, let me tell you are a great teacher.

This is actually very important to know for the beginner artist.Thank you so much for this video.

It's a piece of Lyra Graphite
Do you look over other people's drawing? If so how much do you charge?
