As I read through the manga, I note that Empire's amry not being present is a major reason why the Empire would continue to underestimate the JSDF over and over again. They never had any firsthand witnesses of this destruction, and assumed that anyone who did speak of it were either exaggerating or outright lying to try and save face. They really couldn't comprehend the power of the enemy they had angered.
This was also part of the plot as to why the Imperial Army was not present during this battle, since they’ve lost 1/6th of their strength fighting in Ginza after weeks and Emperor Malti feared that the unified kingdoms might went up against him since his military is weaken, so when Malti had the chance he asked the 21 unified kingdoms to help him fight against Japan with the full intention of getting them wiped out and weaken the kingdoms so he can still have power over them. However due to his military not present in the battle and lack of information he didn’t know how strong an opponent Japan really was, assuming scorch earth strategy would work against them like any army in his world. He really thought that Japan was an equal opponent until he realized they had no chance agains them in a conventional war when Kuribayashi mowed down Zorzal’s goons in front of him and bombed the Senate building, probably the reason why he decided to change and sue for peace.

@A F-35 with internet They do now, since 2017 if I recall, they call themselves ISIS-K, K being for Khorasan province, the place where the Afghan branch of ISIS was created
If I remember the JSDF was trying to only occupy Alnus Hill, since they lacked the capabilities and resources to advance deep into enemy territory. As the anime/manga has showed us they were certainly capable of doing Blitzkrieg but they only utilized that tactic to push through the Gate and occupy the Hill. The anime didn’t elaborate on this but the only time the JSDF were dispatched hundreds of km to kill the Flame Dragon and its babies, they had a hard time moving there effectively (vehicles breaking down/unexpected encounters with locals). Spoilers ahead Although Season 3 hasn’t been released yet, the manga did show that the Empire’s guerrilla fighting does have effectiveness initially on the JSDF as many trucks were burned down and personnel were injured and sometimes killed. After those attack, Japan has decided to launch a full scale war against Zorzal’s military but his scorched earth tactics does proved troublesome for the Japanese since they had to constantly deal with refugees and guerrilla fighters disguising as refugees. After that the manga is still being written so the plot is not fully covered yet.
@@dannyzero692 So they're basically keenly aware of another Barbarossa Op so they're taking steps to mitigate; which is good. Casualties will always be casualties though.
I like Durants stragetic thinking and as a commander. He knows that the moment that they are seen that all of the soldiers are sitting and tells them to move so that they are harder to hit. Also he goes first to show his men to not be afraid. I wonder what he would do with modern weapons.
The Special Region was lucky to have the portal open in modern day Japan, and have their response be simply building a military base nearby the portal and sending diplomats. If the portal opened in 1930s Japan however... lets say the Special Region would make Nanking look like a wholesome family picnic in comparison
@@elijahmanaghaya6038 America would’ve likely be like Japan in this timeline however they would’ve pushed for war with the Empire because of slavery bad, human rights abuse and set up a puppet state, trade with the now maybe Democratic Empire and expand US influence across the Special Region. Although at slower pace since in the manga the US military is still occupied with war in the Middle East and their defense budget can not spare anymore. China would’ve conducted either all out war and censor it or find excuses to do so since they had the Gate under lockdown and China would’ve likely move its 600 millions people to the other side since that’s their goal in the manga. Russia would’ve done the same but they would exploit the Special Region and go to war for natural resources especially during the winter months in Russia.
What I love about this anime is that it shows how powerful modern militaries are. in most medias like Avengers, Ultra Violet, and others, soldiers are portrayed as useless morons that just stand around firing wildly and waiting to be killed. "It's because they're up against people with super powers!" so it is a basic power to rob all troops of their common sense and aiming capabilities? there have been so many times the soldiers should have won easily. but no, either the soldiers have the aim of Storm Troopers and can't hit anything, or they forget they have guns and run up to the enemy to club them on the head. so I'm glad this show pays some respect to our modern militaries. (even though they had a small handful of facts wrong)
Rory is cool, but I bet she was lying when she said she couldn't die. If that were true, she wouldn't bother blocking or dodging gunfire. At a bare minimum, she takes damage that she can regenerate from. This means if she were to be shot in the head, she would be subdued or at least incapacitated for some time, as her brain would need time to regenerate.
What I like about this battle is that later on in the series, you end up finding out that Duran survived; he was maimed, but he survived. He ends up just popping in, giving some advice, then leaving and it's never addressed in any way who he is or why he's just hanging out like a civilian in the town the JSDF set up near the gate.
I like how the first two attacks never made it to within range of the infantry. They just got annihilated by artillery and tanks and when they finally got close enough for infantry to shoot. They were cut down like reeds in a strong wind
JBXyooj Considering that the JSDF is largely entrenched in those Arnus/Alnus Hill battles, with cannons and automatic gun fire, it's more like the hell experienced by those on the Western Front in the First World War. What with charge after charge being nothing more than the wholesale slaughter of men, orks(?), and horses. Blame The Great War youtube channel for that one. Still, it's too bad that the other world doesn't have any offensive, or better yet defensive magic AFAIK that might give them a chance to close that gap and fight man-to-man. Granted, the word "might" is probably too charitable a word to use but at least give these Allied Kingdoms cannon fodder some kind of a bone.
Sabersonic Well the orcs and Dragons were kinda like the main muscle for the allied states. The JSDF just had the element of surprise. From what I heard... This technological advantage ain't going to last throughout the series, according to the light Novel.
JBXyooj The Generals of the Allied Army appear to be utter idiots. First, you scout your enemies before attacking, second they should have fortified Mount Arnus, since its where the gate is and the only point the enemy can enter, thirdly, after their first attack in Tokyo, they should have recongised how outdated their Tech is and improved on new weopons and fourthly not using the same tactis three times in a row when its clear after the first one that its not working. Have these people never played Civ?
rupok93 no the gate will close eventually leaving the military cut off from what i hear, the manga hasnt reached it yet but arnus hill will eventually be a democratic state capital where the non humans arent treated as slaves and they can make ammo and other necessity after they've controlled the resources during the time when the gate was open
If this is what a small force can do imagine a massive modern army in this fictional continent. Edit: The music just reinforces the one sidedness of this fight.
The king's reaction says it all. No power can outfight them, no knowledge/wisdom can outsmart them, and no kingdom can conquer them, for they have evolved beyond their imagination. Destructive powers and capabilities strong enough to rival that of a god. I have never watched this anime tho looks good as fuck hope it isnt cringey and cliche, just stumbled upon it here on youtube great scene noice. That red armoured guy was a king right?
Kazumi Minazuki That’s not really true…. Kings aren’t Mayors since being a Mayor assumes you are under the command of another, which Kings do not have. Dukes and Barons are much more similar to Mayors on an administrative level, with the King being more similar to a President/Prime minister instead. The term Emperor on the other hand is completely interchangeable with the word King. Most sovereigns only adopt such a title for historical reasons, like the HRE or Tsar emperor for example.
Sadly, if you think about it, these soldiers did not deserve to be annihilated like that. It was the Empire who crossed the Gate and launched the attack on Ginza. The Allied Kingdoms were lured by the Empire in order to wipe them out, then conquer the Allied Kingdoms' territories.
Some medival soldier: I will fight and die for our kingdom for honor and glory. I will have their head on my Spear!!! Some Otaku 22 year old soldier manning a 249 SAW: Oh boii, here I go killing again.
the general shooting an arrow towards the rain of bullets shows the disparity of their power and how insignificant his status, achievements and strength in the face of modern warfare.
If they're using thermographic vision (and why wouldn't they, all modern armies do) they'd just be tracking their IR heat signatures, day or night, "The Predator" style.
So you go to a battlefield, see an army comparable to your own completely wiped out, with not a SINGLE enemy casualty on the field and you decide "yeah, I think we should attack."
another favorite scene from this awesome anime. its just the whole thing about them being able to mow down and wipe out an army in matter of seconds just brings a warm tingly feeling to my heart.
What was suppose to be a JSDF recruitment anime ended up being, "if we remiliterize we're ok with killing 100,000 poorly armed peasants". China isn't happy. lol

I remembered walking into my friend's room while this scene was on, as it was full screen while playing I couldn't see the title and assumed that this was going to be just another boring generic fantasy/medieval army battle. Until I saw the scope reticle. My first thoughts were wait... what? wtf? How is this even possible? Just what anime is this? Needless to say the following curb stomp gave me quite a hard on and was hooked to the series. Looking forward to season 3! ;)
+John Vincent Olmos I don't know about China or Russia, but America? America would probably send in a special team to topple the emperor, before supporting a local pretender, and then leaving a shit-ton of technology for his army to play around with, but not before teaching him how they work
+Feem Her That, or they would tell the public that monsters inhabit the other world, and that they were "cleaning" it. 'The Mist' style. Eventually every single person in the other world would be dead and we would harvest their natural resources.
That someone Well, most of said intelligent species are humans and/or demi-humans. And really, we already do plenty of bad things against our own. It wouldn't be difficult to cover it up as dethroning a tyrant to establish democracy under a "fair" president (for life).
It's kinda refreshing seeing modern weaponry beat this medieval type world. Because most of the other stories usually has super strong magic user that could even rival nukes

Or by retreating instead. Any men who made it outside of the killzone would of likely survived.

It's a shame they were restrained with a sheet of paper from the diet...

Reminds me of my time in Afghanistan, tali and isis seem to think that they can use darkness as an advantage while we sit there with NVGs radioing in their coordinates for artillery. One problem I do have though is that they had tanks, manpower and artillery, they could have softened up the oppositions base with artillery then proceeded to send in tanks with infantry following in for cleanup.
Kick those terrorists asses!

Spoilers ahead
Although Season 3 hasn’t been released yet, the manga did show that the Empire’s guerrilla fighting does have effectiveness initially on the JSDF as many trucks were burned down and personnel were injured and sometimes killed.

“Guys you see that army on the horizon, make it disappear”

What I like about this battle is that later on in the series, you end up finding out that Duran survived; he was maimed, but he survived. He ends up just popping in, giving some advice, then leaving and it's never addressed in any way who he is or why he's just hanging out like a civilian in the town the JSDF set up near the gate.
when you piss off the wrong timeline

I like how the first two attacks never made it to within range of the infantry. They just got annihilated by artillery and tanks and when they finally got close enough for infantry to shoot. They were cut down like reeds in a strong wind
Lord Duran looks like Big Boss haha
Yeah... The Allied Army just got a taste of what the German and Soviet been through in WW2.
Hell on Earth.
+JBXyooj Damn let me guess, as usual rifles and stuff will fall into the hands of the enemy and they will use guerrilla warfare?
rupok93 no the gate will close eventually leaving the military cut off from what i hear, the manga hasnt reached it yet but arnus hill will eventually be a democratic state capital where the non humans arent treated as slaves and they can make ammo and other necessity after they've controlled the resources during the time when the gate was open

Yes he was indeed a king with a city on his own command Although he's Territory is part to the imperial empire or what not
