Megolavania is similar to another song in the Genocide soundtrack, Battle Against a True Hero, which is what plays when fighting Undyne in the Genocide route. The naming of this song is odd, as many themes are centered around/from the perspective of the monster you fight. For example, Undyne’s normal theme is Spear of Justice, which is clearly referring to Undyne. Bonetrousle clearly refers to papyrus. Asgore refers to… well… Asgore. You get the point. But Battle Against a True Hero describes what YOU the player are doing. Undyne isn’t battling a hero, she IS the hero. The same applies for Megalovania. Megalovania is clearly a play on Megolamaniac, which is what YOU are, not Sans. Therefor it wouldn’t make sense for this song to be Sans’s theme. This being the case would explain why Sans has a complete other theme that goes unused. Whether this theme is tied to Frisk, Chara, or the player is unclear (as I’m not super sure how that whole thing works anyway), but it’s probably NOT Sans.
As for your reasoning, I would hesitate to consider Smash as valid evidence. It’s definitely not canon, and I think the logic for adding Megalovania as a song with Sans wasn’t a “let’s add this song because it’s canonically proven to be his theme,” and was instead more of a, “hehe funny skeleton man and the song that plays when you fight him (and is also one of the, if not THE most famous song from the game).” Take other characters, like Steve for instance. When Steve was added, some Minecraft music was also added. That doesn’t mean that the music was Steve’s theme, just that it’s from Minecraft, yknow? It’s not a perfect analogy, but you see the point…
I wouldn’t include Pit getting curb stomped by Joker as part of the Kid Icarus lore, and in that same vein, I wouldn’t take Smash Bros as evidence for anything…

There's several things that make this track truly fantastic. The main melody is just "sans." sped up- if you don't believe me, go to "sans." and play the video at 2x speed. Of course Sans is so lazy that he just decides to recycle his regular overworld music for his battle music. Then there's the inclusion of other themes throughout the track; the inclusion of "Bonetrousle" is fairly obvious and demonstrates his love and devotion towards his brother, but Gaster's theme is also included in the background at 0:11-0:17 if you listen closely, which further points to a possible connection between the two characters. I also love how this track is placed right before the track that plays when Sans judges you, leading players who have bought the sonudtrack to believe that a Pacifist/Neutral battle with Sans is possible. Sans is the ultimate troll.

i love the idea of giving the sans fight an absurdly low chance after a few attempts, where this song would play, and he would have a completely different first attack, new attack patterns and everything, and just leave people confused af since most of the sans fight relies on the players muscle memory after hours of bashing their head against the wall that is the sans battle

i also love the idea of a pacifict route sans fight, with the most absurdly difficult attack patterns ever, however because of no karma, he cant ever go through i-frames, so you just end up taking at most 3 damage even if you tank the entire attack

I like how even though this was apparently meant to be a sort of joke fight, this track parallels Bonetrousle as its more serious counterpart. Well, not exactly serious, but the track gives off the vibe that fighting Sans is a bigger deal than fighting Papyrus, who in the end is a cute harmless goof and whose track reflects that. This track has untapped potential just below the surface and its great to know exactly why. Papyrus' track says "I will not hold back! Nyeh heh heh! :)))" while Sans' says "this is just for fun so I'm going easy on you. lol"

Even though sans can throw 1000 bones/sec, his attack is only 1. Which means it will take 1 damage if your defence is 0. His attacks are strong in genocide because of the purple thing called karmic retribution. Which means it will be harder if your LOVE is more.

Actually chara has nothing to do with genocide. Their soul appears in pacifist, which is the unnamed soul you save from asriel. The game specifically says asriel dremurr when its asriels soul. So charas soul is like dormant or something if no genocide happens, by which they wont be waken by the player
