For a minute, I thought I was back in the 70s in a Disco with the music and flashing Christmas lights. LOL! The tent looks very interesting. I'm looking forward to your review. And I will not admit that I've set a tent up a time or two in my office at lunch. LOL!

Thanks! Been looking at this for a new freestanding setup for backpacking and bikepacking. This just might be it.

I look forward to the 3p versions of X-Dome and Arc Dome.
My guess is that Tarptent will get there first -- they are a larger company and accustomed to making realistic-size tents (whatever that means to you).
Dan's designs are excellent, but he intentionally compromises on points that are important to me: his tents are small and packs unventilated. They are great if you want those design choices.

Tarptent is great but there are irritating design choices with them too. To each his own!

I think the X-Dome is a pretty large size. The height and width are quite a bit larger than other 1P tents, and the length is 2-5" longer than similar tents from MSR, Big Agnes and Nemo. So there are sometimes models from other brands that are larger but I do think are tents are usually on the larger side of things. It is true though that Tarptent choses different trade offs than we do. They use struts to make some very large models, while I do prefer simpler/lighter tents.
In the case of the X-Dome and ArcDome, the X-Dome has quite a bit steeper end walls due to the shape of the pole set, so the fly is shorter but looking about a foot off the ground I expect they are about the same length.
We do also have other models that are very long. The X-Mid Pro 1 in particular is one of the longest 1P tents on the market with a full 90" of length even a foot above the ground.

@@durstongear Sure. I wasn't being critical -- just saying that I want a larger (wider) tent: a 3p rather than a 1p. But I get why other sizes exist, and you do an exceptional job with them.
Kudos for longer lengths -- typical 7 foot tents for 6-foot people is awfully tight.
Similarly, width deserves some margin as well -- cramming two wide pads against the walls makes no sense to me.
