This exquisitely illustrates the mindset that is plagueing the American man. Rather than actually trying to reach this concept of ‘perfection' himself, GothamChess instead resigns himself to simply praising and talking about the achievements of others. This ‘observer' mindset is what is causing the gradual, silent decline of our nation. America is the worlds most influential trading partner, and we cannot afford to lose our position as a global investor, but sadly this is what is happening due to the passivist nature of our citizens. The world will not look upon America favorably if we continue to be seen as a nation of whinhing, passive snowflakes. I understand this is a bit unrelated to the video, but i just need to let out some of the frustration that has been building up. Chess is a perfect example of what is happening, as we've even gone to the point of inventing machines to play the game for us, so we dont even have to put any effort in, and can simply sit back and enjoy the show. Levy Rosmann is a representative of this whole group of commentary channels that waste their lives simply on observing the achievements of more taltented people, a defective man. I hope that one day that America will look back at us in shame, and wish they descended from a nation of innovators and inventors, but I'm afraid there will be nobody left to look back.

Magnus just wants a chess position, slightly better, slightly worse, and he will squeeze water from a stone for a win. Yes he's great in the opening, steering clear of his opponent's prep and getting the game into his style of position. Yes he's great tactically and makes few mistakes. But holy hell it's his positional understanding and endgames that really separate him. He wins games no one should win, against opponents who wouldn't lose a game like that to anyone else.

I actually saw Levy at a grocery store in New York City a while ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

The pinned guy does not understand that not everyone has time to analyse games and break it down into understandable chunks with the help of an engine to appreciate it. Levy here not only does that, he brings understandable and interesting commentary that brings life and joy to the Game of Kings.
This can be inspirational and engaging to not only chess afficionados, but newer generations of tech literate talents that might actually have a knack at the sport and might just be, for lack of a better word, genii that take the game to another level when they fully mature. When you ask a champion who inspires them, they often say it's a genius or talent before them and their COACH, or someone who gave them the push to even try their hand at the beginning.
Levy is that same person for many of us here in the Gotham Chess community, and rather than bringing chess to a decline, is helping it grow for even the international audience (hi that's me included) and bring the glory to new heights and not new lows like the commenter described.
Now a personal shoutout to Levy, I know it must be stressful running a channel especially with such insane comments while you're trying to engage with your audience even in the comments (which must take a lot of time). I hope you're doing well on a personal note, as your mental health is something we in the audience care about besides the chess.
Looking forward to the recap of round 2, cheers from SG

before i watch the video i have to say this: often times i forget how good Levy is at chess (i know elitists will say he's only an IM, idgaf dude, whatever). Yesterday when the Sinquefield Cup was underway i checked twitch to see if anybody i liked was covering it and saw he was online. So i watched a bit, enough to see the guy crushing chessle with a beefeater
Threw me back to the pre-youtube days, watching on twitch a blitz game ending i'll never forget: chat was wilding as usually, Levy just being his casual self having fun and then proceed to show how to mate with bishop and knight - now, i know this is trivial for his level, but to me it was awesome to see. Like, he made the opponent go to the wrong corner just to show how it doesn't work, and how to send the opponent to the right corner. Then counted the moves, looked at the clock, quickly checked in his head to make sure there was no 3 move rep (he didn't say this, but i know this had to go through his mind) and pre-moved the whole sequence
So, bottom line, you've gotten so good with these recaps, making them interesting and appealing like no one else can in YT, that sometimes i forget how good you actually are as a chess player as well
Much love Levy, now to the video!
(idk if you'll see this, but if you do, hope it brings a little positivity to your day!)

This channel is insanely interesting for the sport itself and everyone who is interested in playing games requiring a little bit of intellect and mental strength. Chess as 1on1 sport can do so much with the ability to reflect own mistakes and building some attitude in everyday life. Great, entertaining commentary and its kind of motivating for me playing the queen on some squares again. Kind regards from a man who's playing chess like a three year old.

I am a very new begginer of like 250 elo and i know a setup london system opening and caro kaan and i often find myself coming across moves that nobody in their right mind would play against these openings but i don't know how to punish them accordingly.

Solving hundreds of puzzles could help you to quickly recognize tactical error.
More subtle, positional blunder is harder to recognize though, puzzle training simply won't help you for that.

If you really are at 300 Elo, the only thing you should care about is not to evidently blunder pieces. Do not study openings or such because players at that level won't play anything theoretical. Just think before moving pieces and you should be fine. I've personally never been at 300 Elo (when I started playing chess a year ago I was already at 900), but I've made it to 1500 without studying a single line of theory.

I've been saying it over and over for weeks now. The WCC is irrelevant. Carlsen when he's in proper form is unbeatable. He is a tier above the rest of the field. His rating shows it and his performance shows it.
Nobody is going to care about who wins the WCC other than to perhaps say "okay, that person is the second best classical player in the world."

Magnus has put FIDE into a very odd position, claiming a player to be WC will at least to me mean he's the best on this planet and how on earth is that possible when there is a guy living in Norway being almost a hundred rating points higher than the "Champ"? But of course they can title him Vice Champ!!!
