Been wanting to shoot this since news broke that NYCT was receiving open gangway cars. I love being able to watch the unique view of the train snaking its way through the system. Which gangway do you prefer; soft shell or hard shell? Let me know in the comments! Enjoy =)

NYC jumping into the 20th century 24 years later. I'm here for it though. Nice trains. Looks like they're in a grouping of 2 though instead of the entire train being open-gangway.

Crazy how the inside of the train says modern, futuristic, clean, and when the train starts moving it gives, old, antiquated, rails, and then you step off and it’s like…. It’s so old and in need of a redesign, update, refresh something!

I suppose fan train people are happy. Because open gangway and cool Alstom sound inverters...😉

I like the soft shell variant. There is some space to stand and you can hear the traction motor better.

@@eugenechen1340The "hard shell" gangway seen on the first clip has telescopic plastic walls, while "soft shell" gangway as seen from 4:38 has accordion walls.

Soft shell by far, much wider and also better looking

I love the open gangways, but I can't say I'm a fan of the garish green LEDs near the doors.

      Valencia Metro
      Barcelona Metro
      Madrid Metro
      Guangzhou Metro
      Bucarest Metro
      Athens Metro
      Oslo T-Bane
      Stockholm T-Bana

Aesthetically I like the soft shell more, except for that handle in the middle that would seem like a bad experience holding on.

I prefer the hard shell design, personally. I've dealt with enough "soft shell" designs on commuter and long distance trains.

Which one is which? Cars 4045-4049 I assume is the hard shell? And the other cars are soft? I think both are good, gives it a futuristic look compared to older subway cars

I hope these so called soft shell gangways don't get vandalized by today's destructive generation.

If they're like what you'd find on many other system, the material is very resistant to slashes. So I wouldn't worry too much.

NY ain’t the first in US to be having open gangways so it should be fine since Honolulu did it first
