OUTSTANDING! I built this and added a filter - put the system in a 4X2X4 shed (bought from Amazon) upgraded the hose, the one it came with was some plastic junk, that might have worked, but I wanted it perfect. Thank you! I wish I could send Pics
I would love to see pics, you can email them to me at soatmon@gmail.com if you would like. This has made a huge difference for me. Thanks for letting me know your experience!
Amazon has bulkhead fittings of different sizes. A rubber sealed fitting to go through tank. Make a long pickup tube inside tank and a threaded fitting on outside
Chair leg rubber caps are available in a variety of diameters to plug nozzle
How about putting an om / off switch on the nozzle to control the pump. Still, it is a great idea.
That would be nice.
I haven't had a flow like that since I was nineteen! Lol
LOL. I'm getting there myself. Thanks for the comment!
Could you please tell me where you bought those 15 gallon tanks? Im looking to store some gasoline and wanted to find a cheap tank.. thanks
He's using a old technique called "Fill it till you spill it"!
I know im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I would love any tips you can give me.
@Kenzo Tristen Instablaster ;)
@Malcolm Luca Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Malcolm Luca It worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Kenzo Tristen glad I could help xD
Could you please do an update on this project? Would like to know any changes you've made to this fuel system (inline filter?) along with your feedback on the pump.
No changes have been made. I haven't even replaced the rag with anything. I've just been using it as I originally made it and it works great for me. I'm kind of an "if it's not broke don't fix it" kind of guy.
I finally built a dedicated fuel truck. 3x55 gallon steel barrels, a very long pickup line and a US Fill rite pump. 30+ feet of 1" outlet hose to reach a 90 gallon tank on my large excavator. The pick up tube end is 3' of black pipe with a screen and nylon mesh end on it, and sits in a 2" pipe for storage. Close the barrel bungs tight when not fueling. Important to filter the outlet to remove water and debris.
I use 3 large surplus Gresen filters ganged up that have water traps. Essential unless you want lots of frustration. The beauty here is that you can bring in your fuel to the job in other trucks, pull up aside and pump it out into the dedicated off road fueler truck with the long pickup line. Often my diesel has been through the filters 2x before entering the machine. Also one can pump out the fuel tanks on machines when need be. I went through all your issues years ago. For the size of your machine, that works perfect. I have tripled the life of my machine fuel filters, and that is a big deal when some have 3 of them and you need to re-prime the fuel system [No fun] after a change, and that process risks introducing debris directly into the injection pump.
Thanks for sharing your set up!
Can you also fill up with 2-stroke petrol with this pump?
Check the description for the pump you purchased it will tell you.
Next step for me would be to add a battery. Amazon sells Barbie Jeep to Milwaukee / Dewalt tool 18V battery adapters. Just slip in a tool battery and pump! It’s saved me an hour fueling my skid steer and tractor 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks for the idea, I didn't know they made those!
Hello, I see it’s been about a year since you made this, does it still work just as good? Do you use it also in freezing temperatures? -thank you
Yes it still works great. I don't know about freezing temps as we are usually above freezing and I don't remember if I have used it in freezing temps.
And by the way, use RED diesel, you save 1$ + per gallon! Also, I can get 1/2 gallon of water out of my filler filters about every 500 gallons of fuel. The source of much trouble in machinery, little discussed.
I used to use off road diesel but I have to go too far for it now. The quantity I use doesn't save me enough to pay for the distance, our diesel tax is less than 30 cents. Thanks for the suggestion though.
My dad and uncles out on the farm just put an old soup, or vegetable can on the nozzle of there fuel barrel to keep rain an debris out.
I did very similarly for exactly the same reason on the exact same tractor only I used a white 55-gallon drum. If you look at the bung plug one of them is threaded for 3/4" only the bottom is sealed. I drilled out the seal and used a 6"x 3/4" threaded nipple and threaded it through the bung seal, of course using an automotive gasket sealer on the threads. Then took a schedule 80 PVC pipe measured to fit the nipple with a 3/4" threaded coupling and fit the filter to the bottom of the pipe so when the cap is screwed back into the bung the filter is just on the bottom of the barrel. I tried what you have on the pump intake hose and did not like it. This made the inlet a solid cleaner connection which can be removed by unscrewing the bung. The other bung is my fill for the barrel. This keeps everything out of the barrel except the diesel I put in during use and storage. the barrel sits in my garage next to the tractor where I can easily attach the battery leads to the tractor's battery and pump the fuel. When I need to fill the barrel, it's light and fits nicely in the bed of my 2008 Dakota strapped to keep it secure vertically while transporting. To get the barrel out of the bed when full, I bring the bucket to rest on the tailgate slide the barrel onto the bucket then ratchet strap it to secure it while I get it off the truck for transporting it to where it sits for storage. No messy anything. Very simple, very convenient, no strain or pain. The barrel full is very heavy but hey isn't that why I own a tractor? Work smarter not harder. You asked so here it is. Thanks for your video and I hope this will help others.
Thanks for sharing your project. I thought about the intake you suggested but just never got it done. I actually 3d printed a plug to go around the inlet hose and it works well. Your solution would be the better fix though. Thanks again for sharing!
YOU CAN CHANGE THAT END TO A SAFETY PUMP THAN IT WILL SHUT OFF
Why manhandle full tanks off the truck, use the tractor bucket.
Buy an LS Mtron tractor, the fuel tank is positioned just right. Great video.
Thanks Shane!
lots of bad reviews on that pump
You just need a smaller tractor. LOL. Yah I'm jellies . I have a B. Great idea . Thanks for making a video about this. I have been thinking of a way to fill my heating oil tanks in the winter time. And this way would be a lot cheaper then buying a external fuel tank for my truck.
I have always wanted one but didn't want to spend the $. This worked out great, I was very impressed. Thanks for the comment!
What kind of oil you burning in the winter?
Is that pump and container safe for gasoline?
I think you would be better off with a tera pump. they are not as heavy duty, but are supposed to work with 15 gallon barrels. it's crazy to me nobody makes a really good solution for this that costs less than the parts purchased separately.
for you all looking for a gasoline set up. amzn.to/2qU94Ku read details on this pump if you are looking for a pump for gasoline. Says, The oil pump is suitable for diesel, biodiesel, and kerosene only. NOT suitable for low flammability fuel (such as gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas, alcohol, etc.) I like it tho for what Soat Mon is using it for.
Looks like a terrific idea. I scored a couple 30 gallon plastic white drums from a restaurant that had to soap detergent in. How do you clean them out? It was suggested that I used at least 5 gallons of gasoline, but then where do I do with the gasoline? Looking for a better idea as to how to clean this out and that damage the engine on a motorhome. Please answer quickly. The motorhome needs fuel.
I just rinsed them out with water until the water was clear then let them dry a few days and filled them up.
All I need now is a 15 or 20 gallon drum,,,, Thanks much
You're welcome!
Use off road diesel for your tractor (dyed red) its half the price because no DOT road taxes.
Maybe he is not in the usa
It's not half price.
Good video how do you fill the 15 gallon tank? And do you wear noise protection for that very ear piercing pump
I take it to the pump in the back of my truck.
pressure switch
just a reminder
Love your setup. I made something almost just like it. I used a 12v fuel pump for a car or truck. It's rated for gasoline or diesel. I added a fuel filter. My setup is slow. Like really slow about 20 minutes to pump 10 gallons but it also cost less than $30. I have an old Ford NAA tractor that uses gasoline and I have a John Deere tractor that uses diesel so I wanted something I could use with all my equipment and it had to be cheap. After I use up a tank of fuel I'm ready for a short break. It gets rather hot down here in the summer. I love it for 5 gallon gas cans. I never spill fuel now.
That's a great idea, I wonder if you can find high flow fuel pumps that would be faster,? I bet they would be expensive. Thanks for the comment!
I don't know how to just share a picture on RUclips so I created a video of what I made a while back. I might upgrade to something like your setup in the future. At the moment I don't use a lot of fuel. I love your setup. Add a fuel filter and a strap for the barrel and it would be perfect. I will add a link to your video. Your setup is so much easier to use and so much faster. Hopefully we can help a few more people out.

Try boat fuel pump
A high flow in tank racing fuel pump should be able to pump 50 gallons in 30 minutes.
Summit or Jegs have them for about 100 to 125 dollars.
100 buck goes a long way on fuel IDK why in hell these 5 gal can ect so freaking high for Hell cheaper just buy fuel > mean how much foam you get he hee
Thanks for the comment!
Soat Mon i got a 100 gal transfer tank on my pickup> I use it on every thing. Lucky i got it when they was cheap. 150 dollars that what i use> now looking at 700 dollars There no reason for that BS ! DAM HIGH JACKERS> Might fine a high and low place to gravitate into the tractor KUBOTA is a VERY GOOD TRACTOR, Cheers
Wow that works better than I thought.
It has made filling the tractor a pleasure.
Install flat plane rotating swivels off of your fuel pump . Use a 1” ratchet strap to secure your tank to the two wheeler . Connect your inlet to a length of PVC pipe through a drilled bung plug . Just some ideas . Nice Clean Build !
Thank you for the suggestions!
Can home heating oil be used as fuel? It is much cheaper here
I'm thinking about doing this project. I have a similar drum and an extra hand truck, which is a plus. Did you ever get a better way of running the suction hose into the barrel? I was thinking of running a pipe down a bulk head fitting, and having a quick disconnect coupler at the top of the pipe where the suction hose would connect. Was thinking this would be good so I can simply swap out barrels quickly without a mess and everything is sealed. My issue is finding a good disconnect for the size of the hose; the size of the hose that comes with the pump. Amazon says its 3/4" but yours looks a bit bigger. The QD at the top of the pipe should also have a plug of some sort, so I dont spill any going down the road. Hmmm.... Maybe I am over thinking this. What has your experiences been? Any ideas for me?
I actually still use it the way I showed it, with a rag shoved in the hole. It works fine and I haven't bothered to upgrade it. I love it, makes filling the tractor a breeze. Sorry I don't have a more creative solution for you but it works so well I haven't really given it any additional thought. Good luck with yours!
Hook a remote on off switch to it and it will be perfect
What’s the pump and where did you buy it?
There is a link in the description. I bought it on Amazon.
THAT SAME KIT IS $189,. NOW ON E BAY IM USING A HOLLEY BLUE FUEL PUMP FOR RACE CARS N THE REAL PUMP HANDLE I HOPE ITLL WORK FINE !
I just checked the link from the description and its $89 on Amazon.
Cut a funnel to the size of the clear hose to cover the lid. You will still need something in there to stop bugs & evaporation.
I was concerned about storing diesel in a plastic drum. I was told it will deteriorate over time. Thank you
No problems so far.
where did you get the containers and pump?
The containers came from a car wash, they had car wax in them. The pump you can get on amazon or ebay, check the video description for a link.
@@SoatMon A CAR WASH? Excellent. There are three of them within two miles of me.
Thanks for the tip.
PS --- That pump sure is loud. A 12 volt truck fuel pump might be quieter.
That sure is useful, because I too need to climb up on the front wheel to fill my tractors. But I have another problem, one is diesel and the others are gas. That pump will work for gas too? You did a bang up job of making a hard task easy. :-)
Unfortunately the pump clearly says it cannot do gasoline... I feel your pain! :(
Use small bung for suction side.
Add a Goldenrod Water Filter now and your Golden!
That pump still holding up okay?
Yep used it yesterday.
@@SoatMon Thanks man. Just got my kit last week.
How do you get the can refiled? It's light when empty to go to the station, but it is HEAVY when you get home to unload it. Do you strap it to a pallet so the tractor can unload it?
Once they are full I can still pick them up and place them on the ground. I then move them with a dolly. If I couldn't pick them up I would slide them into the tractor bucket and lower them to the ground. The slide quite easily in the truck bed.
I did about the same thing but build a wooden platform to sit my barrel on. I like yours better mounted on that dolly and think I may just redo mine... Thanks for the video..
You're welcome. Thank you for your comment.
Good video man. Thanks for sharing. - take care
You're welcome!!
Nice. Always a pain to fill with a can. Very hard to top off when I'm using a screw in funnel
I agree. Thanks for taking the time to let me know you liked it.
Hello, how has this pump held up?
Still going... To be honest I only use it about every other month but it still works like new.
@@SoatMon thanks for the reply.
Great idea. I think I'll couple the pump setup with a 20 gallon portable waste oil drain tank for my fueling station.
I really like mine, it's a whole new world!!
What type of tank/drum are you using? I'm not familiar with it. I'm looking for something less expensive than the 50 gallon transfer tank I've found locally.
I got them at a carwash. They had them for sale for $10. Made of polypropylene I believe. It's the same plastic a gas can is made of. They work great and are the biggest I can move myself.
Here in NE Tennessee you can get Clear 55 gallon plastic drums that used to hold wine for $15. They usually have 2 threaded bungs and the center of the bung can be drilled out and is already tapped for 1/2" NPT.
I’d like to know where to pick a couple of those 15 gallon tanks👍
I got mine from a car wash. Wax came in one and soap in the other. I would call around, I paid $10 apiece as I remember.
@@SoatMon I get at my local car wash 30 and 55 gallon drums for free! The only thing you have to do is to wash the barrels out in a location that drains to the sewer because they have industrial soaps in them. If you call ahead and let them know they will wash them out for you Other than that free is great. They are not UV inhibited so long-term outside direct sunlight use they don’t last very long and get brittle also the rubber gaskets that come with them aren’t rated for petroleum products so they do soften after a while but again free barrels are free barrels.
Love this. Thanks for the idea. Anyone find a quieter pump or a way to make this one quiet?
You're welcome!
Would it work with gasoline?
It's not rated for gasoline.
is it possible to use the same setup with a differnt pump for petrol?
Yes. His pump is for diesel only. For gasoline, use a 12 volt automotive fuel pump, instead. The nozzle, hose, and pickup would be different, of course. But, the concept is the same.
do you have a link for the tank?
I got the tanks from a local car wash for $10. They had wax in them. Any plastic container should tell you what it is made of these are made of, polypropylene (PP) or HDPE should work.
Wow, that pump is stupid strong! Filled your tank really quick- looks like a great investment of < 100 bucks. My tractor only holds a little over 7 gal so that's a bit overkill for me. I usually fill up at about 1/8 tank and I've been using the little 2-D cell battery powered pump from HF with a 5 gal can. So far it's been stellar, and at $7.50 even if it only lasts a year or two I can replace it and come out golden. Great video, thanks! 👍
Your welcome. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Can you use it for gas or only Diesel ?
The pump is not rated for gas.
Good day.
I saw your video on RUclips and I watched it and I immediately thought :
why you don't put the supply hose in the vent opening (opposite the large opening) and maybe close it completely tight with type or a silicone kit.
the supply hose can always be stuck in it and you can always fill in the white high jerry can
or indeed make it in the loose cap if you don't want to have the hose fixed in 1 jerry can.
and for your filling handle.
fix a pipe with a slightly larger diameter on the hand truck where you reinsert the end of the hand handle with the opening facing downwards
and so that it can no longer fall off the hand truck and onto the ground dirt and soil / sand fall.
Kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands.
source of translations : Google translate
The suction hose it too large for the vent port but I like the idea of a pipe to hold the handle. I'll have to add that at some point. Thanks for your input!
No red diesel in your area?
There is but it's not close by, not easily available and not much cheaper. I also only use a few hundred gallons a year so it's not a huge difference
Will this work for GAS ?? + diesel pump ??????
It would if you had a pump rated for gas not sure if this one is. That's a different ballgame and much more dangerous as a small spark can ignite the gas.
@@SoatMon The one i got isn't rated for gasoline.
Great video thanks
You're welcome!
You should add a filter.
No a bad idea.
Is that pump usable for gasoline as well?
I don't know for sure but I don't think so.
I was wondering the same thing. It looks like a water pump. I was shocked it's for diesel.
Great idea! Where did you buy the pump kit from?
Here is a link. You may be able to find one cheaper on ebay. amzn.to/2qU94Ku
@@SoatMon Thank you! Im definitely going to make one.
Great project!
Thanks!
Thanks as soon as your video ended I ordered one, thanks
Hope you like it!
@@SoatMon My fuel pump arrived today, very easy to put together, can't thank you enough for making this video, it was just what i needed.
Good ideal. Well done
Thank you for taking the time to send a nice comment!
Love this idea 💡
Thanks, it's been a game changer for me.
nice. I hope you don't burn down your place one day. i may get this setup
Thanks!
Are u gonna add filters
Probably not. The fuel doesn't sit for long.
What hp tractor do you have?
48 hp
That is gasoline not diesel. Gasoline color white and diesel is color pink and that liquid your putting in your tractor is gasoline!
It's diesel. You can't run gasoline through this pump. Regular diesel is this color, the red stuff does not have the highway tax on it and can only be used for off road applications like tractors, bulldozers etc. I don't use it because I don't have a source nearby, I get mine at the local station so it is sold for highway use. Our highway diesel tax is less than 30 cents so it's not worth traveling very far.
it will pump even faster if you take out the little plug so it:the barrel) wont have to suck air through the handkerchief....or better yet .put a flip plug int that hole or a little fausct you could just turn on so the barrel can get air.....the vacumn left in the barrel as it pumps fluid out causes the pump to work too hard. ...aand it could burn up your pump or collapse the barrel.
Thanks for your input.
